PNY unveils SSDs for laptops, iPods, and more
They told us they were coming, now sure enough, PNY has loosed their line-up of Solid State Disks. Available in 1.8- and 2.5-inch profiles, the new SSDs feature up to 66MBps read and 55MBps write speeds and standard ZIF, micro-SATA, 44-pin IDE, and regular ol' SATA interfaces for drop-in replacement of hard disks in things like iPods (you wish PNY) and laptops -- right, the same price as SanDisk. Unfortunately, you'll have to be an OEM to take order (starting today) of the 2.5-inch, 32GB jobbie which costs about $350 when purchased in quantity. By Q3, PNY (and everyone else it seems) expects to be shipping their 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch SSDs in 64GB and 128GB capacities, respectively.

I dont know about you guys but 32gigs probably wont even hold my apps. Let alone files. These things need to be 5 times bigger and half the price.

So Steve Jobs, when you will you give us iPods with SSD drive? I'm on my second iPod Photo and I'm fed up with the bad reliability concerned with normal drives. I'm ready to upgrade and want an G6 iPod with a 32GB SSD drive. Apple is always first with the latest drives and it's about time they hop on the SSD wagon.

I'm not an Apple worshiper, but I would buy a 32GB SSD G6 iPod the day it was released.

Do you Realize how much an iPod will cost if the drives are selling to OEM's for USD $350

I wouldn't even bother spitting on PNY so why would I want them in any of my computers? PNY are the crappiest POS for flash memory out there.

Keep releasing products like this please!
I wouldn't buy a PNY one, but they're gonna help bring the prices down so I can get a GOOD one eventually!!
GOGOGO!! :D

I have dreams of an SSD price war. Sweet, sweet dreams.
They'll get competitive pricing in a year or two with usable sizes. Hard Drives won't go away but will be relegated to mass storage and go extinct in battery driven portable devices.
