Dell reportedly set to release new Inspiron, Vostro laptops

As they are wont to do, the folks at Notebook Italia have turned up some details on a fresh new batch of laptops, including a bundle of new Inspirons from Dell and a pair of new models in the company's hereto unheard of "Vostro" line. The new entries in the Inspiron line include the 1520, 1521, 1720, and 1721, each of which pack either 15.4-inch or 17-inch displays, and boast either Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Turion 64 X2 processors. The Vostro models on the other hand, appear to be Intel-only (at least from what's been revealed so far), with the Vostro 1500 coming equipped with a 15.4-inch display and the Vostro 1700 upping things to a 17-inch screen. Unfortunately, those are about all the specs that are known at the moment, although it doesn't look like we'll have to wait long to find out more, as all but one of the laptops are reportedly set to be released on June 26th, with the Vostro 1700 following later in July.
Update: The laptop above is a new Inspiron, not a Vostro. Those, apparently, are all black.

Check out this page: it confirms the name:

It's been removed from the current Dell site, but Google saves the day.

Good, finally some better video card options: NVIDIA 8600GT. Inspirons always seem to have low-end video cards (X1400 in the E1505...give me a break). Might actually consider this if they lose the lame white/silver color scheme.

Inspiron == Shit. I say this as someone with experience with Dell. In terms of overall quality is usually goes from Inspiron\XPS -> Latitude -> Precision. I use to say Latitude was one of the best around however sometime between 2004-2006 the moved from Synaptics to Alps for the touchpad. I can no longer stand the touchpads on Latitudes. Whenever I have to set one up I HAVE to use an external mouse. (Granted these are Latitude D610's so they are one gen old. Haven't had a chance to work with the newer series though.

"Hereto" isn't a word, Donald. You're looking for either "Heretofore" or "Hereunto". Probably "Heretofore".

This is very good news. That laptop in the picture looks quite good. Regarding the Inspiron always coming with poor quality graphics cards, I beg to differ. The one I purchased nearly three years ago has a GeForce 6800 which is more than enough for many graphics intensive games and such even today. And as for Inspiron quality mine has not suffered any hardware problems in the three years I've had it. My brother is jealous because his Blackbook keeps having random hardware failures.

Just because you haven't had a problem doesn't mean there isn't QA issues with Inspirons. Esp pre-Core days. I question a line of products when I replace at least 4 motherboards of the same model in a week. My girlfriend has an Inspiron 9200. No problems what so ever, and we are thankful for that. But again just because you have a good one doesn't mean the line is rock solid. Dell's line of consumer oriented laptops has always had heat issues. The Core and Core 2 have been a godsend to Dell which I think is ironic now that they are somewhat turning away from Intel in favor of AMD.
As for the quality of the new line. One picture tells you exactly dick about the line. Are they going to use the same cheap ass metallic wanna be paint on the palm rests that rub off after a year of use? Is that top simply a snap on that looks hokey?
I’ve been around enough now to know Dell. They are at a crossroads right now. They have tried for the uber cheap line of hardware. Its got them where they are today. The problem is that many consumers are looking for something a little more quality based with a bit more oomph. That was what the XPS line was suppose to be. To a certain extent it worked. But only to a certain extent. XPS systems are simply bumped up Inspiron systems, with a bit better hardware in them.
Dell needs to pull an Apple, but only to a certain extent. OK they need to pull an Apple lite. The above may be that. Or it may be Dell trying to fake quality. We’ll see soon enough. All I know is I’m still wetting myself every time I think of their tablet.

I have an Inspiron 5150. The motherboard has been replaced twice, I had to get the dvd-rw drive replaced, I bought a new hard drive because the old one was failing (but hadn't completely failed yet), and I had to get the power supply replaced too because the connector was failing. Needless to say I'm not a huge fan of the Inspiron. Yay for class action lawsuits at least :)

I too have a 5150 and had to replace the motherboard multiple times, looks like it's 5150's weak point.

Finally Dell is outstanding on design!!! bravo dell!!!

The new Inspiron series- "NOW 30% less fugly!"
Man, I had a 5100- hard drive died twice, then the motherboard fried. I think that was more because of the "Hey guys, let's put this super hot desktop Pentium 4 into a cramped laptop enclosure with only one dinky heatsink" idea than a real flaw with the whole inspiron line.

no problems with my 1 year old core duo-based e1505. But I have the 3 year warranty just in case.
