Pretec shows off first miCARDs
We know that you've been barely able to sleep since the new miCARD memory card format was announced -- who would be the first manufacturer to get these out the door, you wondered -- so you can finally rest easy with the news that Pretec is showing off its own version of the multi-functional little wafers (pictured larger than actual size, of course) at Computex in Taipei. The company's S-Diamond line already tops off at an impressive 8GB (with theoretical capacities of 2TB, but we're not holding our breath), and like the flood of other miCARDs soon to hit the market, will work with regular SD/MMC-capable devices through the use of an adapter. Pretec still isn't being forthcoming with any pricing or release info on these, but since there's no miCARD-specific hardware on the market yet anyway, we doubt that many of you care.

It's not often that i can look at a new memory card format without screaming... these cards look quite good though and knowing they can be used with the 'soon to be ubiquitous' SDHC format just gives me warm fuzzies.
YAWN....
Wake me up when isolinear chips with "sandwiched" memory layers at 512 kiloquads of memory hit the $100 dollar mark.
Show'n off my geek cred'.
I'd love to have 32GB or more of storage on my phone. Considering how I use it to take pictures, video, mp3 player and a ton of 1st and 3rd party application, the normal gig or two isn't going to be enough soon.
There should be a hole in one of the courers opposite to the USB contacts. I need to be able to put one on my key chain.
Wow, theoretical 2 Terybyte would be alot of plastic actually, but i'm really looking forward to both MiCard and SDHC, let's see who makes the race.. http://micard.info http://sdhc.biz dont click!:)
Huh, looks cool. I like the fact that it's pretty much a USB memory stick by design. I have one of those SanDisk SD cards that has a USB interface in my phone and it's useful as heck. Hope this miCard format takes off.
Unlike most new formats, this one doesn't piss me off...the SD+USB Sandisk cards I have in my Treo and camera are incredibly handy, and having a smaller format card with that feature is pretty cool. I wonder if these will be small enough to fit inside a microSD adaptor so it would be compatible with most newer phones/PDAs. Unless Sandisk carries the SD+ concept to microSDs, I hope this becomes a popular format.
Sweet, bring 'em on.
I really have to wonder how much farther this thing will get any farther than Lexar's "UFC" if anyone recalls.

I have to admit, though.. this miCARD looks promising if it's pin compatible with SD/MMC *and* basically functions as a USB stick without a premium.
A while ago I bought one of those Pretec "USB Flash Earrings":

It looks pretty similar to this new format, except that the row of contacts that aren't the USB signals are different.
I found that it didn't contact well in some USB connectors. In one case I had to jam it in place with a bit of folded paper. Presumably USB connectors were designed to be supported on all sides, unlike the other small flash card formats. So unless you have a good reason for something that's really tiny and fits in a USB socket, I'd suggest another format.
Assuming this is the width of a USB port (since it must be), that would make this a couple mm shorter than my current USB drive, the Kingmax Superstick:

Of course, the pqi i810 is shorter, but telescoping, and has its own built-in case. I also carry that one around, too.
This thing looks to be about the same size as my Adata microSD card with microreader, which can also function as a tiny USB drive, but with some added considerations. For instance, the microreader has problems with unpowered hubs, unlike most other USB flash drives I've run into.
Please don't tell me this thing is available.. my GF will kill me if I buy another USB drive.
Very nice but I still like the Design of the OCZ Roadster over most

and I too was looking forward to Lexar's UFC
這跟 SanDisk SD plus 有什麼功能上的差別嗎? @_@
