WWDC 2007 banners caught on camera, reveal absolutely nothing
Here it comes, that periodic rush of excitement brought on by Apple event banners being put up by unwitting convention center workers, prompting rabid discussion and even on that rare occasion actual product knowledge. Unfortunately, none of that to see here, unless you want to try and read into the starry backgrounds on the Leopard posters, or the particular shade of white being used for the Apple logo. Be our guest, we've got bigger, more historic fish to fry. Keep reading for another shot of the action, the source link was down the last time we checked.

Perhaps this is foreshadowing the Leopard release that is bound to happen at WWDC07?
On another note - the source site for this breaking news is temporarily down - congrats Engadget, you too can bring down a website!
Nando @ Jun 7th 2007 10:01AM
LOL!! I love the title: "...reveals absolutely nothing"
hackaroxp @ Jun 7th 2007 10:12AM
I believe that the real banners are behind those.
X-Ray, Go X-Ray!
Andrew Eller @ Jun 7th 2007 10:17AM
The background of the banners closely resembles the look of Time Machine.
Revels @ Jun 7th 2007 10:21AM
No, really?
strider_mt2k @ Jun 7th 2007 10:24AM
I don't miss trade shows and conferences one little bit.
I've had all the $7.50 hot dogs and bad Panini I can handle for one lifetime swag or no.
However, if you're into it I say enjoy!
steve @ Jun 7th 2007 10:29AM
C'mon, skip the facade. Everyone knows that it's really the WWJD conference
Nate @ Jun 7th 2007 10:57AM
"What Would Jobs Do?" Conference?
Well, duh.
Rohit Kapur @ Jun 7th 2007 10:31AM
Oh man, this brings back memories of last year. I can't believe it's been a year already!
Anybody remember last year's banner and all the hype that came with it? The whole new-iPod-and-new-Macbooks and all that stuff!
I was kinda disappointed to see Apple take cheap shots at Microsoft with the banners last year("Redmond, start your copiers" or something like that comes to mind). . .
Can't wait for this year!
Nicholas FitzRoy-Dale @ Jun 7th 2007 11:01AM
Ha! They must have learned from the last 10 times.
Chinthaka @ Jun 7th 2007 11:14AM
they should be saying
HEY COME ON LETS RIDICULE MICROSOFT AGAIN, WHILE THEY WHOOP OUR ASS FOR ANOTHER YEAR!
seriously though, apple last year was just childish...
MrGam3r @ Jun 7th 2007 11:16AM
I wish they would announce a wide screen iPod WITHOUT a phone because I already have a phone that I'm perfectly happy with but I need a new iPod. And I don't want to have to spend $600 on the iPhone with a two year thing just to get one.
Nick @ Jun 7th 2007 2:07PM
Amen Brother.
gork @ Jun 7th 2007 11:19AM
Leopard isn't going to be released at WWDC. Developers will get a BETA copy. If anything, they will pimp new stuff...widescreen ipod's to accompany iphones??
Nick @ Jun 7th 2007 2:09PM
Gork: why did you put an apostrophe on 'ipods' and not 'iPhones'?
You got it right on 'iPhones' but there's no need for that apostrophe on 'iPods' unless there's some hidden ownership I should know about?
MrGam3r @ Jun 7th 2007 11:19AM
(accident lol) But I know there isn't going to be any sort of announcement like that because I'm sure a lot of people are thinking the same thing as me so it would hurt iPhone sales. (gasp[jk])
Timerider @ Jun 7th 2007 11:44AM
*crosses fingers* Come on new iMacs.
And widescreen ipods would be nice.
J.Y. @ Jun 7th 2007 12:00PM
Oh man, the new "Time Machine" universe metaphor means we're going to have to deal with these super-geeky Dr. Who meets Space 1999 marketing materials? Ugh. Can't wait to see the version of these signs that are translated in Klingon.
faisal ali @ Jun 7th 2007 12:09PM
Leopard will be 3D. Maybe not fully 3D, but it will incorporate more 3D elements than just the zooming icons in the dock, expose and fast user switching currently present in Tiger. Even time machine is just the tip of the iceberg. There will be more, and that's why that long banner that reads "Expand your Universe" is there. The icons are all floating in 3D space.
Nando @ Jun 7th 2007 12:27PM
In space, no one can hear you click.
Matt @ Jun 7th 2007 12:39PM
Well being that this is the developers conference, I am not expecting any consumer related products. Why do all of you think you will be seeing iPods at something like this? This is not Macworld.
Maybe some hardware updates, as well as software and service updates will be featured, but the next iPod won't be rolled out here.
Hopefully news on the new iLife/iWork as well as .Mac services. I am sure plenty of news on OS X 10.5 along with some new features. I am sure the new file system will be discussed. I am also betting on AppleTV partnership news, maybe an SDK if we are lucky. I am betting the iPhone SDK will bere there, along with some flashy new app from Google on it like Google Earth on your iPhone or Sketchup. That would be cool.
brendan Sheehan jnr @ Jun 7th 2007 1:08PM
Showing these banners is just going to make the event seem like a longer way away!! Thanks Engaget.. you have just UN-MADE my day.
brendan Sheehan jnr @ Jun 7th 2007 1:18PM
Typo, damn! You really need a 2 minute edit feature on this site Engadget. Not to mention a bug fix on a number of other issues. Say when I reply to someone, it would be great if my reply would ONLY appear after that comment, and not at the end of all the other comments too, and one could rate my comments within that reply etc. There's a few other things, sure no site is perfect, but try you best to get a fix to at least these two issues, thank you.
Will @ Jun 7th 2007 7:08PM
Hey it looks like it does appear right after a comment now, I like it.
Eric @ Jun 7th 2007 3:35PM
Agreeing with a comment above, The floating icons could be a hint at an awesome new interface. Can't Wait!
brendan Sheehan jnr @ Jun 7th 2007 4:01PM
It's the new Finder, you must enter space to find your apps and files!!
Robert @ Jun 7th 2007 4:06PM
If you look closely at the banners you will notice that there are two plys of banner on each side (one banner over another in each side). Off course the exterior has a non-suprising motive the Leopard OS art. While the JobsNote, they will 'peel' the one on the outside to reveal the originally intended on the inside. It is a rather nifty tactic. See for yourself.
Jon @ Jun 7th 2007 4:55PM
i havent masturbated for a week for good luck... something good better come out at WWDC
Will @ Jun 7th 2007 7:09PM
Why? Saving it for Jobs?
(Sorry couldn't help it, too easy)
andrew harrison @ Jun 7th 2007 6:14PM
does anyone else think that green Time Machine style swirl behind the glossy X makes the whole thing look pretty ugly?
Tim O'Shea @ Jun 7th 2007 8:04PM
Chris Leydon is probably right. I mean, it is the backround for Time Machine, and the "Expand Your Universe" probably has to do with the "secret features" of Leopard.
Appletechfreakobum @ Jun 7th 2007 10:15PM
I heard Apple were going to announce some kind of new phonepod. I dunno I just got the internet.
dudeInAmerica @ Jun 7th 2007 10:16PM
C'mon Stock price :)
Scout @ Jun 7th 2007 11:37PM
The 'X' sign makes me thinks they make Xbox...:D
M @ Jul 3rd 2007 12:11AM
I think I have decoded it. It appears to be some kind of Apple event. I just can't seem to make out for what??? .... I will keep dissecting.
