HP Compaq's 2510p laptop snapped in the wild
Sure, Apple's latest 15-inch MacBook Pro may have stolen the thunder from HP Compaq's 2510p by getting its LED-backlit machine out to customers first, but for the purely Wintel crowd, this one's sure to please. In some foreign lair, the amigos (and chicas) over at TecnoSquad were able to apprehend a loose 2510p laptop long enough to snap a few detailed pictures showing off its exterior and even its posture while parked in a docking station. You already know what's inside, so make sure you leap past the jump in order to catch some external photos including one that unscientifically shows it as the brightest of the three pictured machines.

oooo, Compaq....yawn... nice 5 million sys tray icons...
That's pretty hot....
just what the world needs . . . another compaq computer with its obvious over abundance of system tray icons. is hp intentionally trying to kill the compaq with Vista and all that extra curricular stuff?
msconfig anyone?
The pictures make no sense.
1. It says compaq on the LCD screen but HP elsewhere (on the cover and on the docking station)
2. It has 2 LCD hinges- no way its a tablet!
3. The config shows its a 14" screen but isn't the compaq 2510 a 12' incher??
duh?
Hp and Compaq merged five years ago. This just shows how much you know.
The 2510p model is the non-tablet version. The 2710p is the tablet version.
All of the HP/Compaq laptops have the name "HP Compaq". ( http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF04a/321957-321957-64295-304455-306995.html?jumpid=re_R295_prodexp/busproducts/computing-notebook/compaq-tabletpc&psn=notebooks_tablet_pcs/tablet_pcs )
The last picture shows two laptops on top of one another. Upon inspection, you should see the laptops are not the same and are different sizes, probably a 12" and a 14" display.
Poor ordering of the pictures can be slightly misleading.
"HP and Compaq merged five years ago. This just shows how much you know." Look at any of the Compaq V2000, V5000 series and u will see that there is no HP logo anywhere on there. Even on the lid, it says "Compaq". That just shows how much u know. I am sure lotsa people know that HP and Compaq are one now!

Sterling: Thanks for the info. I was referring to the picture which lists the config. specs- it clearly says 14" WXGA. That threw me off! :)
The majority of those icons are NOT "bloatware". As the owned of an HP business notebook (nc8430), I recognize all those. Most of them are necessary for the biometric scanner to work, Bluetooth, and the quick launch buttons above the keyboard.
Please don't just open your mouth if you don't know. HP's business notebooks are not loaded with bloatware from the factory; they contain drivers and a bare OS.
The only three sys tray icons specific to that or any other recent HP are the Synaptics, Embedded Security, and QuickLaunch. I'm typing this on its predecessor, the nc2400, and I can turn the first and last ones off. You wanna see excess icons? Look at a ThinkPad.
That said, IMO the 2510p is a little underwhelming. Adding the touchpad is nice, but I thought they'd try to thin it out more compared to my 2400. HP has told me there are plans for a 1-spindle version, but I don't think they're going to change the chassis for that; just take the optical drive out to lighten it.
i have 3 on my Thinkpad..
lol @ Compaq..
HP rep dropped one of these off at work last week. I played around with it for a an hour or two while I was on the predecessor (nc2400). Ran a bit faster, both had Vista business on it. Didn't reallty take notice to the new LED backlit LCD. I did begin to take it apart but gave up after trying to get the keyboard off.
Didn't think of taking pics of it though..

Er...I'm looking at the bottom of my Presario V6000 and, oh, look, there's the letters HP...and beside the mousepad with "HP Imprint Finish"...
It is a nice laptop, but then I admit I'm a fan of Compaq.
I'm on vacation in Florida with a friend of mine who works at HP and I am typing this very message from a 2510p right now.
It only gets a 2.4 on the Windows Vista experience score.
It has an internal product name called "Sapporo"
Serial number is: CNF715000K
If you really want proof I'll take a picture with my MBP
I'd rather hear about your impressions than get proof. How's the build quality? How even is the backlighting? Is the keyboard nice and stiff? Is the touchpad so small that it's useless?
Greetings,
Regarding to a previous comment:

1) HP offers a wide range of laptop computers... HP Pavillion Series (which are pure HP, as in the bottom one on your photo), HP/Compaq Series (usually including business series like an nx7400, which I'm typing this on) and newer pure Compaq series (like the one you have on top of your photo).
2) HP and Compaq is not and newer was "one"... They did not merge, HP bought Compaq. But as a sales strategy, they did not erase the trademark, but imported it into "some" of their series. HP still sells their desktop as "pure HP" (don't really know what the h..l that means).
3) You might be wrong, or right. But when replying to a message or a comment, one would first "search" in uncle Google or somewhere... Just try typing "nx7400" and select "Images"...
And about the laptop:
It sure looks pretty and I would love to put hands on one. The scene lacks a device with built-in optical drive, performance parts and a small form factor with a little weight and thin case. This one looks right on the spot, and if the price range is good, it would be a good choice for lot of us, mobile business laptop users.
