Bang & Olufsen is continuing to give a whole new meaning to the term "home theater in a box". The latest in the
BeoVision 7 line is coming to the US this summer, and includes everything; a 40-inch HDTV, 7.1 surround sound speakers, amplifier and a DVD player. As if that wasn't enough to draw you in, it's perched on a motorized floor stand that will adjust the display to keep the viewers in the sweet spot. And like many B&O designs, it includes an electronic curtain glide -- because pressing a button to eject a DVD is just too much work. The BeoVision 7 will retail for $13,500 and will be available in an assortment of colors -- we're leaning towards the red.

...HOW MUCH?!
Jake @ Jun 14th 2007 11:33AM
Amazing! He can type, but he can't read: "The BeoVision 7 will retail for $13,500"
What I want to know, though, is what does the "electronic curtain glide" do? Make the curtains open and close? If they're including that, why not also offer an auto-light dimmer?
jimmy @ Jun 18th 2007 2:58AM
It does comes with the auto dimmer feature. It is true that BV7 uses Samsung panel, but we all know the processor is as important as the panel itself, not to mention each TV is calibrated individually to have the best result. No Bluray nor HD DVD, but which high end AV maker has done that? The HD DVD/Bluray war is yet over. Expensive eqiupment but not just some junk with nice suit on. Have one since 04 and still very happy with it.
Mark7r0n @ Jun 14th 2007 10:37AM
Wow the TV totally rips off the Vizio 47"

Alex @ Jun 14th 2007 11:03AM
Actually, the BV7 was launched in Europe in 2004 ... WAY before that Vizio junk was even "designed (see: ripped off)."
Mark7r0n @ Jun 14th 2007 11:38AM
Yeah, I guess you're right it has been out since '04, which explains why it is only 720p. So tell me this, what is all that "Full HD" the press release is talking about? I realize it is all marketing, but come on marketers should not misuse marketing catch phrases. But at least for 13 grand it will embrace my SD-DVDs with a "prismatic lighting effect."
Alex @ Jun 14th 2007 11:52AM
Actually, you're looking at the EU spec. The US spec is VERY different. Resolution is 1920 x 1080 for "full HD"

When I lived in Chicago I used to go to the B&O Store on Rush Street just to dream about owning such cool equipment. If these guys made a computer, it would put Apple and everyone else to shame. Nobody, and I mean nobody, designs like Bang & Olufsen. Re: price. This stuff is Rolls-Royce for electronics. It's that good.
Niels @ Jun 14th 2007 10:46AM
Why is this news? Already using the device for a year now in europe..
Dan @ Jun 14th 2007 10:55AM
With prices of LCD TVs the way they are right now, I'm surprised I haven't seen other "home theater in a box" offerings for between $700 and $1500 depending on the size of the bundled tv (and the brand).
Andy @ Jun 14th 2007 11:10AM
I really like that stand. I'm assuming in this case that it's a part of the package, however does anyone know of any similar stands that I can mount a 37" LCD on?
Andy @ Jun 14th 2007 11:11AM
To clarify, I don't care about the motorized stand, I just want a stand of a similar style.
pauly @ Jun 14th 2007 11:16AM
B&O rocks!
I saved up for one of their stereos and love it.
Don't think I'll ever be able to afford the tv though. Definite drool worthy electronics. Never had one problem with the stereo.
Hmmm..New car or tv?
Brad @ Jun 14th 2007 11:23AM
Um.....am I missing something here? No Blu-Ray, no HD-DVD, no 1080p....what year are we in?
palehorse @ Jun 14th 2007 12:38PM
the US model is "full" 1080p... i think.
My problem is that I dont think 40" is big enough for any "theater." If they boosted the TV up to 50-52", this thing MIGHT be worth the money - depending on the speaker/amp quality of course...
But I think I'll stick with a custom rig. Now, if we can just get Beo to sell their stand separately... hmmm...
Brian @ Jun 14th 2007 1:10PM
What's the point of 'full' 1080p without a Blu-ray or HD-DVD drive?
I agree with you on the size too...
I'm actually a B&O fan with some of their products. Some are hits like their speakers and sound systems... Some, like this, just absolutely miss the mark to me.
Rick Lyon @ Jun 14th 2007 12:51PM
AL that design and engineering and they can't get the speaker box a few inches shorter to match the width of the display?
For $13k, I'd get a 1080p projector, 110" acoustically transparent screen, and a complete 7.1 in wall speaker system and still have money left over for HD-DVD, PS3, power protection, new Onkyo HDMI 1.3 amp, etc.

Disclaimer: The question below does not relate to this post, I am just looking for help and know that engadget readers are extremely knowlegable.
Can someone please help me with a question that I have been trying to answer...I am looking for the best device that will allow me to take movie files from my computer and watch them on a TV.
I currently have a divx compatible dvd player with a usb port and that works really well when I am at home, but I am looking for something that I can bring with me on road trips. I don't necessarily need a viewing screen even.
Thanks!!!
Matt @ Jun 14th 2007 1:12PM
Just so everyone knows, this tv is Full HD (1920x1080p), you have your choice of 2 different speakers as the center channel, and 3 different stand options (including a motorized wall bracket). And believe me when I say this tv has the best picture of ANY LCD on the market. It's not even close.
James @ Jun 14th 2007 3:29PM
Like every other B&O product, the internals of this particular unit were made by someone else. Most notably, B&O has reskinned Philips (stereos) and Fujitsu (plasma tv), so why will this LCD be any different? I doubt it'll have the "best picture of any LCD" although I'm sure it'll be plenty good. The only reason to buy B&O is for their design. Any talk about performance is irrelevant.
Alex @ Jun 14th 2007 4:30PM
Ehhhh, you should check your facts ... B&O has NEVER rebadged a stereo or a speaker for that matter. Philips owned the company at one point more than 10 years ago and B&O bought themselves back a few years later.
B&O sources their glass from Matsushita, not Fujitsu. The panel for the BV7 (like the panel for a good percentage of the LCDs in the world) gets sourced from Samsung. All of the other innards ... and I know this for a FACT ... are B&O.
Jop @ Jun 14th 2007 6:00PM
James you are indeed correct B&O Used to use Philips, (The High end) they still may do. Alex; You have to remember that an Austin Martin is Ford. Its about the Style and what you can do with it.
Thor @ Jun 15th 2007 4:57PM
The ASTON martin is not longer owned by ford. It´s owned by a British consortium named Prodrive. They bought it 3 months ago.
Jas @ Jun 24th 2007 3:03PM
OK! I have just brought The beovision 7 and i can tell you it's well worth the money. I am absolutely stunned at the picture clarity and the sheer look of the T.V
Another piece of technology that i have bought is the new sony PS3 and i'm struggling in connecting a HDMI cable to the Bang and Olufsen, as there is no slot in the back of the T.V
