Century busts out sensor bar-packing Wii LCD

Given that just about anyone can make their own Wii sensor bar with minimal effort, it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that a company's finally decided to make an LCD screen with one built-in, although we're hardly complaining. This latest wonder of quasi-portability comes to us from the folks at Japan's Century Corporation, who seem like they might just secretly be Ben Heck fans. As with Ben's custom-made portable Wii, Century's add-on boasts a 7-inch widescreen display and, since it doesn't actually have a Wii built-in, includes a handy converter box to discreetly manage the power and A/V connections. Somewhat surprisingly, it's also not entirely unreasonably priced, setting you back just ¥14,800, or roughly $120.

Great!
Now I can put an entertainment system in the back of my Scion TC.

That 7 inch display is gonna seem a lot smaller when you stand back far enough to swing the controller.
derek @ Jun 20th 2007 3:55PM
what is the point of this if it doesn't have it's own power?

Wow,you have the worst tech blog I've seen in a long time. All your posts are 3rd or 4th hand.

Ben Heck > Century Corporation
Goes to show you that one man who has an eye for design can beat an entire corporation at developing things like this.

Wow, I'll have to pick myself up one of these maybe. Even though I have no idea when I would use this, it seems really fun.

McGinley,
Hey, thanks for the comments (even if it was a bit rough). Even though some of the content there is 3rd hand, we do have some original articles up (if you scroll down the site a bit!). The site has been up for 3 days, so cut us some slack! Look for some original content added in the future. I'm going for originality, so if you have any ideas, I'm totally up for it. I'm not offended by your post in anyway, I'd just love some constructive criticism!
Sorry for taking this offtopic everyone.
Thanks,
Noah

When will people stop calling it a "sensor bar" ...
It has no sensors! The sensors are on the WiiMote.
Chris @ Jun 20th 2007 5:00PM
It's called the sensor bar because the sensors rely on it for input. "Screen-top-reference-point-bar" simply doesn't have the same appeal to it.

When will people stop calling it "Wiimote" its called Wii Remote. lol
sshah87 @ Jun 21st 2007 12:31PM
we'll stop calling it a 'sensor bar' when Nintendo changes the thing's name.

I'm kind of skeptical about this. Certain games for Game Boy Advance (for example, Wario Ware: Twisted!) featured built-in accelerometers, much like those inside the Wii's controllers. However, these games were unplayable while traveling, as the accelerometers were unable to calibrate inside a moving vehicle. I would imagine that you would face the same problem with the Wii.
