Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"As someone who doesn't reside in the USA, I was wondering what would be the best way to get internet for my computer in the US for a couple of weeks? If it were Europe I know I'd look for some prepaid data. Is there anything similar offered by American carriers? A MiFi or a data SIM that I can tether from would work, but I'm trying to maintain a tight budget. Help!"
The most important sign that Microsoft doesn't get it is... the File Explorer. Who wants to manage files - on their phone? This example is typical of the difference between the Apple and Microsoft approaches.
I think the File Explorer is the best thing it offers to me, aside from the ability to edit and create MS Office Docs.
I use my phone as a miniature external hard drive on a weekly basis. It's highly practical.
Maybe I'm not understanding what you're saying, but I enjoy being able to navigate the files that are on my phone, memory card, etc.
If I had to change anything about it, I'd want it to be a little faster but that's more of a processor/hardware issue, and not software.
How would you suggest we otherwise manage files on our phones?
How do I suggest managing files on the phone? You don't! It is bad enough that you have to manage files on your computer. Do you also want to manage files on your phone, your gps, your watch, your thermostat, your car, etc? These devices should be management-free. Apple gets it.
I guess if I wanted just a phone, I'd get that. If I get a Pocket PC (note the PC) device, I want to be able to do anything I want with it. I want to be able to do without my laptop for a while if needs be. Anything that I can stick an SD card in and browse the Internet with needs a File Explorer.
@mckoder
As I've alway said: It's better to include something and have people not use it than to not include it at all. I find the file explorer very useful. Unlike you I like being able to manage files my own way. Who's my PDA to tell me what files I need and don't need. This also makes it possible to crack games :D (actually never mind). I can see why you wouldn't want a file explorer on your future iphone...
There won't be any third party applications that you'll need to organize O.o . I mean, how many times can you organize your songs before that gets old?
P.S. If apple gets it, they wouldn't allow you to resize photos on your phone. Seriously.. do i really not have anything better to do while walking around than resize a photo? I guess it's something to do when not organizing your music.
