Nokia debuts totally fugly 7500 Prism in China
By all accounts, Nokia's designers are either on a cutting edge so far into the future and so deeply advanced that we can't understand it, or they've all gone off their medication. The bizarre 7500 Prism (which may or may not be the similarly styled 7900) made its debut at a Nokia fashion event in China today, along with the 8600, 8800 Sirocco, 6110 navigator, 5700 XpressMusic, 6500 classic, 6500 slider and the 3500 -- though none of them were as totally zany looking as the Prism. The phone's specs are at least fairly normal, featuring a 2 megapixel camera, microSD slot, a QVGA screen and rocking the S40 (version 5) OS. It's unclear at this point why the company believes people will want a diamond shaped keyboard, but since the FCC has already approved this model, we'll soon learn if they really do.

This phone is actually right on trend. You will see an increasing amount of consumer electronic products sporting such angular lines and faceted details. Just like there are innovators and early adopters of tech, so to are there in design. This is an early adopter aesthetic. One that has been seen emerging in furniture the last couple of years at the furniture fair in Milan. The "rounded rectangle" popularized by Apple is on the way out. This is what's next.
Well it certainly is something new! I like it. It is refreshing and something different and we need that with phones.
The Chinese will love that phone. It looks alot like mainland architecture.
It looks like a turd!
I lovr it, verh crrative!
it reminds me of a contemporary pimped out sofa... i love that design..
Finally we see a phone which wants to distinguish itself from the rest. Reflecting attitude and design instead of technology and the 'me too' syndrome ever so present in the phone market. It is time that this ubiquitous object starts making a statement!! We need more icons such as this. Amazing Nokia!
I like the design.
All I need to do is buy this phone, then shave my head, put on silver or black patent clothing, and tell everyone I'm from the future.
Seriously, though, I like it.
Stop being so biased. This phone has a nice design, thank you for Nokia Product Design who can get out of the box. Enough with the iPhone, it's plain. I admit it has nice features but the design is just too ordinary.
