Unboxing the Logitech MX Air

If there's such a thing as a Logitech fanboy, you can count us among their legions, as we've been more than pleased with almost all of the products (mice, webcams, surround sound speakers, wireless gamepads) that we've ever purchased from the peripherals giant. And we must say, the new MX Air certainly lives up to this enviable reputation. From good hand feel to instinctive reactions in 3D space to the sweet virtual scrollwheel (it even makes a freakin' accelerating and decelerating clicking sound, just like the MX Revolution!), the latest member of the MX family is a pleasure to work with all around, and also features the no-brainer plug-and-play setup that we've come to expect from these devices. We'll have a more detailed hands-on a little later, but for right now you can check out our unboxing pics in the gallery below...

Does it fit nicely in your pocket
L. Cyphre @ Jul 13th 2007 5:31AM
Why do you want to know, hmm?
And asfor the mouse, I'm a proud Logitech fanboy myself and own a MX Revolution, which is pretty much the best thing since sliced bread. I wonder whether this phaser penis can top it?
Ryan @ Jul 12th 2007 9:39PM
Does this thing use the same 2.4GHz or is it Bluetooth? I have a Z-5450 speaker set that renders all Logitech wireless devices useless... I really with Logitech got their act in gear and attempted to resolve this issue... (they have since stopped producing the z5450s)
tsik @ Jul 13th 2007 3:57AM
I've got the z-5450 which are absolutely great and i also have one of their wireless mice the v500,without having any connection probs.
Ryan @ Jul 13th 2007 11:00AM
News to me, my z5450 system has rendered my mx610 and even a friend's VX revolution (I asked him to bring it over to test it when he got it). I'll have to check this out.
steve @ Jul 12th 2007 9:41PM
i thought these were slated for an Augest release. did I miss something? Oh, and give this thing a shot on some games as well, FPS or something. I'm kinda wondering if that's practical or not. My HTPC has the horsepower to crank out some good big screen gaming, but I still could use a good input device while sitting on the couch.
JohnTitor @ Jul 12th 2007 9:47PM
is this worth the price over a good old gyration air mouse?
MDB @ Jul 12th 2007 9:57PM
That really is the question everyone should be wondering. Currently, gyration has a monopoly on this type of product, and I'm very curious to see if this device works better.
groznij @ Jul 12th 2007 9:51PM
While I'm wondering what this says about me, I have to say... It looks like a penis. A sleek, voluptuous, meta-evolutionary, erect penis. With form-fashioned balls.
Anyone?
Please agree with me. Please.
groznij @ Jul 12th 2007 9:54PM
3rdsun, perhaps?

Hasan @ Jul 12th 2007 9:55PM

I was going to say that I would really like to grab hold of this baby, but now...ewwww

I REALLY LOVE my g5 and mx500 mice from logitech. and my Z5300 speakers.
i am really close to fanboyness on that point.
however, the software that this company releases is absolutely awful. it seems bloaty, and underpowered. if their software equalled their hardware, i would be a VERY happy person.
OutrightLie @ Jul 12th 2007 10:57PM
All it needs is a button to make it vibrate and it can be used for more... feminine uses. It seriously looks like one of those abstract vibrators.
On that note... Sign me up for 3!
Don @ Jul 13th 2007 5:09PM
I can't help but wonder if you are buying three for YOURSELF, or 3 for yourself and the others for friends... and if it is the former if you plan on having 3 on-hand so you have backups or 3 to use at the same time.
Ergy JB @ Jul 12th 2007 10:58PM
does it work the same way with a mac!??!?!?!?
jilie @ Jul 13th 2007 12:04AM
no, IT'S WINDOWS ONLY
Hugh @ Jul 12th 2007 11:25PM
I am wondering the same too. Does anyone know?
YankeeFan @ Jul 12th 2007 11:15PM
I just bought the logitech fusion webcam on sale for like 60 % off and I love it!!
Teddy R @ Jul 12th 2007 11:41PM
Horrible. Learn how to take pictures.
rmikejav @ Jul 12th 2007 11:58PM
Count me as a long-time Logitech fan also, but...
Is it my cheapass LCD monitor, or is that really crappy photos? Cripes!!
jilie @ Jul 13th 2007 12:05AM
Luke, use the force.. err.. Google
I LOVE THE CAPS LOCK KEY @ Jul 13th 2007 12:05AM
CNET has already done a review and gives the Logitech MX Air an 8.5 out of 10

Ynohtna @ Jul 13th 2007 1:33AM
logitech fan boy here, looking forward to your indepth review. Thinking it'll go well with my htpc!
Babau @ Jul 13th 2007 2:22AM
If this thing was ever going to be supported under Linux I'd bust a nut and buy one right now. However, Logitec suck at releasing Linux drivers.
Seriously not a Logitech Fanboy @ Jul 13th 2007 8:56AM
Bah, Logitech sucks you mindless fanboys. Their ergonomic keyboards are crap, I use a Microsoft Natural 4000 with my workstation. I suppose the MX Revolution I use with it is OK though...and the G7 and G15 on my gaming PC are kinda nice....and I suppose the Quickcam Fusion is a decent webcam...and I like how my z-2300's can shake the house apart...and I guess this VX Revolution I use with my laptop is kinda comfy and convenient. And the half dozen or so 'retired' Logitech products in my peripherals bin, I suppose I kinda liked them too. Maybe Logitech isn't all bad...
But the bottom line is I'd never buy this hunk of junk for $199 to use with the HTPC I'm going to be building. Why pay $199 when Newegg will probably get it for $160...maybe paired with a diNovo Edge Combo Special...
Jim @ Jul 13th 2007 3:11PM
I can't stand Microsoft keyboards after the original Natural keyboard. Why in the futz do they always have to screw up the keyboard layouts? Never consistent with the delete/home/etc. keys and change the function key groupings (from 4 to 3) which really sucks....
Seriously... @ Jul 19th 2007 12:01PM
The new one (4000) is great...many improvements over their old versions...I like it a lot. If you prefer natural keyboards I highly reccomend stopping by an electronics store sometime and try out the feel of one that is on display, and if you like it mwave.com currently has the OEM version for $30.
Logitech still has the same natural keyboard design they had 6 years ago which is OK but the new MS one is much better. But otherwise, I really like Logitech's stuff a lot better (I seriously have all the stuff mentioned in my post...oh I forgot my s510 with media remote...I just use the remote now and no longer the keyboard).
Jon @ Jul 13th 2007 5:43PM
Isn't Logitech CEO Guerrino De Luca a former Apple exec? That would make if perfectly acceptable to be a fanboy. An MX in one hand and an iPhone in the other.
Eric Iffland @ Jul 13th 2007 11:15PM
Side view = flight of the navigator?
Camperton @ Jul 14th 2007 11:48PM
I'm still pissed they discontinued the Mx1000 Laser mouse. That was the best mouse they have ever made and they discontinued it. Why?
pp @ Jul 16th 2007 4:07PM
corporate america isn't interested in producing "the best": they're interested in producing the greatest profits. if you like something that much, you should probably buy 2, and hope it won't be obsolete before the 1st one wears out.
Luther Bolen @ Jul 24th 2007 3:56PM
I have a set of 5300 speakers, and they sound great on most
everything, but will not play a You Tube sound file, and
some others. I called Logitech support and was told they
did not support any files on the internet unless they were
played with windows media player. Very disappointed. The
You Tube files play fine on my other computer with Boston
Acoustic speakers.
Adam @ Aug 1st 2007 12:03AM
Wow dirty hands, you make it look used! lol!! Nasty!
