Voodoo's Envy H:171 laptop hits the streets
Voodoo, a company hell-bent on out-spec'ing the competition, today announced that its ENVY H:171 has "set new standards for performance notebooks." While we can't completely trust everything some big PC manufacturer says, we can tell you that the 17-inch, widescreen laptop does flash some pretty robust specs. The maxed-out combo features a Core 2 Extreme CPU, a Dual NVIDIA GeForce Go 7950 graphics chipset, 4GB of RAM, and a hard drive capacity of up to 600GB (using three drives). Additionally, you get your choice of paint jobs, and Voodoo will even slap a "tattoo" on the back, as long you pay for it. So what will it all cost? About $5,000 for the bare bones system, up to somewhere around $7,477 for the full monty -- and those specs aren't terribly dissimilar from something like the cheaper Dreambook -- though they don't offer a $380 "ink."

Lovely notebook, glad they finally re-added this series back to the line up.
It was off the market for almost 3 months, and so many people have been waiting for the updated version.
Though many will say the, OMG 7k for a laptop, order one and find out the experience for yourself.
I'd never buy a Voodoo after all the problems and terrible support my brother had with his Voodoo laptop, complete waste of money. He might as well have got no support with it at all and all the upgrade opportunities they said they'd offer with the laptop, they never did.
Save yourself the $ and buy something else.
Isn't this made by Clevo? I had a Clevo D87P, rebranded as the Hypersonic GX7, and it was a piece of artifacting junk. I can't believe they did not recall those! They had nice specs at the time, but man, was it defective!
yes, this and the 'dreambook' referenced in the post, are both Clevo rebrands of the same chassis.
funny, I haven't seen Sager make a version of this Clevo
but for sure it would have costs like half the price of this Voodoo
Yeah, but can it run OS X?
No because it has a real GPU in it.
I wonder what the battery life on this thing is... 20 minutes? Idle? xP
and before I forget... OMG 7K FOR A LAPTOP! (in response to Matt ;D)
Hey, now, just be glad that Engadget did not ever report about the gold plated OMEN.
Ending price is like 20k for all the best parts.
As nice as those specs are, it just doesn't seem worth the money. And what's with the 7950 graphics cards? No DX10 support in those puppies. Doesn't NVidia have their 8000 series cards out for lappies now?
The only mobile 8k series cards on the market are the 8600, which would be a major downgrade from a 7950.
Though this new system comes with an MXM slot GPU so hopefully if the 8800 mobile chip comes out soon it can easily be upgraded.
I don't care what's in it, it's a $7k notebook that'll be worth 2k in six months. What an investment.
I have had an *AWFUL* and I mean *AWFUL* experience with these guys. I wouldn't ever buy from them again, and I always recommend other brands to my friends. I couldn't get any reasonably current video drivers, had to do all sorts of ridiculous backflips just to get something to install. Support? yeah right! don't try emailing them, they've some braindead antivirus/antispam solution in place that just plain drops emails from gmail.com. Uh hello? Lots of people use gmail.com, its not a spammers domain. Oh, and yeah about the 'upgrades', hell no, they don't exist. Put your hard earned money into another company, VoodooPC isn't worth it.
hmmm... this or a dell xps, an HP 20" and a macbook pro for the same price... i think not
Forget about price, at 12lbs this is desktop performance at desktop weight.
John, I believe the Clevo D87P was re-branded as a Sager 8790.
Old news and Old specs... nothing to see here. Move on. 7K yeah whatever Voodoo.
I think voodoo company is not good at making laptops. i like only the desktop "OMEN" from voodoo pc. If you are looking for a laptop then i will suggest to see other companies like ALIENWARE.
