Dell m1330 shipping delayed a month
Yeah, it's just your luck. Dell comes out with a well designed, high specification laptop, and the thing promptly sells out. Although systems have started to ship, any new orders will take at least four weeks to arrive: if you select some of the nicer build-to-order options like the LED backlight, your order will take even longer. Looks like you're lumping it then.

As horrible as this paper launch has been, thats not even my issue with Dell atm. I ordered two of these m1330's and have had various people lie about it from Dell. It's actually gone as far as accusing me of lying. Here's a link to a digg about it:

I hope the laptops make up for the horrid customer service.
Luckily I ordered mine the day after they came out.
I actually ordered two of them the day they came out and shipping was always set as end of the month of July. Problem was one over zealous employee started making empty promises and thats how this whole mess started for me.
I've heard from three people that have had theirs shipped and they all ordered the day after me, its depressing really.
With what options if I may ask? I know the 2.0 MP webcame and the LED LCD are backordered. Something else is too if I recall correctly.
2.2ghz, LED backlit (with camera), 160gb 7200rpm, 9 cell, 8400GS
I just read your story on digg, I hope they make everything right, but I won't be surprised if they don't.
I just spoke to a Dell rep this morning who mentioned the built in Bluetooth was the SKU error.
Yes, but does it run Linux?
Serious question actually. I'm looking forward to them offering these with Ubuntu on board.
Its the XPS line so no. That having been said, most everything people have gotten to work on the m1210 so the m1330 should be fine. Waiting to try NetBSD on it.
No it never runs on Linux its a Dell Never runs on anything else other than Windows.
I've got Ubuntu running on my XPS m1210 without ANY problems!!
So I ordered my XPS m1330 on July 2nd in Singapore.
Initial Estimated delivery Date: July 19th
New Delivery Date: July 23th
Even newer delivery date: After July 27.
The wait never ends....
Ah, glad to see I'm not the only one. Ordered it the day it showed up online. Thought a month was a long time to wait for delivery, hopefully it won't be TWO months before I see my preciousss.
It's funny that My Thinkpad T61 that I ordered about a month and a half ago had these same delays. So much so that I actually called to cancel to order a M1330 but I hung up about 2 minutes into the call. Pretty happy with the thinkpad so it looks like I made the right decision.
I ordered mine today, set me back a bit under 2G for the Crimson model! I didn't see any mention on my order there would be a delay... Maybe I got the last one.
Cool commercial on Dell web site for the 1330 btw. I think they are finally coming around featuring some fine babes.

that was f'in nuts... reminds me of the robert palmer videos (or something from the 80's).
Ordered mine 4 days ago estmated ship is the:
Bought: 07/19/2007
Shipped: 08/19/2007 to 08/31/2007
Now its over a month wait time.
i'm in this situation too. i ordered mine at the beginning of July with the led back light and the 2.2ghz proc, and i'm not going to see it until september according to their website.
I ordered mine with the LED backlight option on 7/3/07 with an estimated ship date on 8/21/07..well over a month. I was pissed so I chatted with Dell's CS online...at 1st, they couldn't give me a reason why. Then after threating to cancel order..they gave me this reason: "According to which there is shortage of LCD screens." I've been with Dell for a while and have ordered many products from them. I just ordered a canon camera and it took 4ever to just get the shipping address changed; there Customer Service has become increasingly worst.
Yeah, i ordered mine just last week and my ship date is something like September 17th or somewhere around there. I get the whole delay thing, but I figure if i pay a few grand for something i shouldn't have to wait two months to get it.
I think the situation is getting worse nowadays. I ordered mine last week, checked the ordered status this weekend, there was no delevery date... This morning, when I tried checking my order, the system couldn't find the order... when I called customer service, the lady first told me that all orders for the XPS m1330 had been cancelled, that I couldn't possibly get my computer. Then she put me on hold, and called tech support. When she came back, the story had changed a bit. It seems, that they ran out of components, didn't ordered the right ones, so they had to put all orders on hold... Now I should receive a call in a week or so, giving me a new confirmation number... Can't wait to see the new shipping date.. But seriously, I would have prefered having someone calling me to tell mo the order was on standby, than having to call them. NOw the only thing to do is wait and see....
So for all of you think about buying this computer, I suggest you wait at least a few months before buying, just to make sure you won't ends up waiting, and waiting...
Ordered mine today with the LED display and VGA cam and my estimated ship date is 8/15. Not as bad of a wait as some people.
Good news, well guess not....
I called again today to make sure everything was allright. The girl told me my order was still cancelled, that I had to reorder in a week or so, getting all the way back to the end of the line. Surprisingly, she told me not to worry, that i should receive my computer 7-10 days after the reorder date... Good news... Well not if look at what is been posted right now on the net. More than a few peoples are complaining that dell's consumer service rep are trying to minimise the wait for dell xps1330. Many peoples say they've been told they should receive their system within a few days but turned out to be a few weeks... Well at least she should've told me I sould expect a few weeks of wait. It's only going to worst when all the people who have been told they should expect their system within a week start complaining. For now, I don' t think their consumer service deserve a good grade...
Blah blah blah....what a bunch of whiners! Your actions do not match with your words. All these threats to cancel your orders hold no water. On the surface you are saying I do not care enough about this laptop to wait for it to be completed and shipped. However, in the same breath you go on and on about how you madly go about checking your status 10x a day. It reeks of desperation and it's obvious the company has you by the balls. No one there cares as it is obvious you are way too emotionally invested to ever consider walking away. Your only option is to pay your money, sit, wait like everyone else and see what you eventually get or walk away. It's really quite simple. All this frenzied whining only further demonstrates the enormous power they have over you.
Why should they change how they do business when they have a killer product that people are so desperate to have that the mere thought of a few weeks delay drives them into a frenzy????

Try to "walk away"! I was placed on hold for cancellations 50 minutes and was told I needed to be transferred to another department... another 20 minute wait. I blew a gasket and got an Indian CSR named Melanie (huh?) from the Dell Finance department. I told her to close my new account and the response was to call another department. After some negotiation I had her call me when the order was confirmed cancelled. Spending an hour to cancel at Dell sends a bad message. By the way I tested the "want to buy" wait time... only THREE minutes.
I can't understand why everybody is blaming the Customer Service of Dell when there's a problem.
When there's a shortage of parts, what do you want them to do for ya?
The people of the Customer Service are not working at the factory, and can only trust the information they got from others, and their hands and feets are binded by rules.
If you're frustrated, don't blame the messenger, blame the marketing of Dell. (the people at the customer service are also victims, as they have to handle 100 shouting and frustrated customers a day they can't help at all: talking about real fun...
Say cheese :-\
I ordered mine on the 25th July, and got a Delivery Date of 5th September
