Eurocom's quad-core D900C Phantom-X laptop gets official
Good news for those waiting in tense anticipation for a confirmation on Eurocom's quad-core lappie: it's for real. Dubbed the D900C Phantom-X, this powerhouse will reportedly pack Intel's "newest line of quad-core processors," up to 750GB of internal HDD space, your choice of NVIDIA GPUs running in single or dual SLI, a Blu-ray optical drive, up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, and a slew of ports including USB 2.0, FireWire, DVI, S-Video, a multicard reader, optical and analog audio in / out, and a gigabit Ethernet jack for good measure. 'Course, you'll also find integrated Bluetooth 2.0, 802.11a/b/g, stereo speakers, a built-in microphone, and an optional TV tuner that could certainly make you question the necessity of your desktop. So, you big spender you, go on and get your order in now and let the bragging commence -- if you've got the $2,999 it'll take for the base configuration, that is.[Thanks, Mark B.]

Or just a tad over $7,000 for one with a Q6700, SLI, 4GB, 3x200GB 7200RPM, Vista Ultimate, Wireless N, bluetooth, and 3 year warranty.
I'll take two, please.
Why you'd want to contaminate a laptop like that with vista is beyond me.
Ubuntu Linux with Compiz Fusion, baby!
Quite a laptop. Nothing was said about battery life... and how much does thing weigh again? Heat generation? and is it NOISY (with all that high performance stuff there must be heatsinks and fans buzzing and whistling)
At first blush it looks more like a portable desktop replacement. Fine for a traveling professional who needs desktop power, but access to power toys.. ie computer programmer.
Oh, and with this much power, how much heat does it generate. My guess is with this unit you should get a box that the unit will sit on to port its hot exhaust... you could probably cook your lunch with it while crunching numbers in your lap! How handy!
They've called it the Phantom-X because of what it will do to your chromosomes when running on your lap, clearly. Haha.
In all seriousness though, nice setup... although I'm a little surprised that HDMI didn't make the marque.
How about a $150 Medison Celebrity Notebook to compare with this. Ain't that much difference as the price... http://www.gadget9.com/2007/07/26/medison-celebrity%e2%84%a2-150-linux-laptop/
Actually the base configurations starts at $2726 USD, the configuration starts in CAD by default...
Where the hell do the 3 hard drives go?
$760 more for 4 GB (2x2GB) of PC-5300 ram? You can buy that much online for ~$220.
I had a D900T Intel p4 3.8ghz with SLi configuration and that baby got HOT!(90c+) Plus, it weighed 14lbs! It got so damn hot it was stupid. Eventually I went through three video cards, one motherboard, two processors, three plastic panels, two heat sinks, four power supplies and six trips to the depot. If I didn't have a warranty the depot trip would have cost me over, in total 5k. That is 1k more then it cost for the initial purchase of the laptop!
macbook pro: take notes!
You are commenting about mac's in a article about an intel SLi machine....wtf!
yeah sorry, I was just thinking that the laptop in the article is like almost as good as a mac pro spec wise, so then I thought that it would be cool if the macbook pro was just like a laptop version of the mac pro
...I think I should stop saying things now
But can it run doom?
That has to be the stupidest thing I ever heard..
You can't even compare a MacBook Pro in the same league as this box..
A quad core, dual gpu box with 3 hard drives against a macbook pro...
hmmmm.... No contest...
hmmm... but still no directx 10
This is actually an older Clevo laptop
and it's nothing special because it's pretty expensive compared to what Sager sells it for.
Posting the same Clevo laptop 10 times is really a waste of space
Your kidding me right??
This is a newer Clevo version.. Not an older...
This box is the best by far...
Why do they show these cutting edge laptops always with XP instead of Vista????
Beacuse Vista SLI drivers dont work all that well
But will it have Robson, aka TurboMemory? Add that, HDMI, Display Port, and a biometric FP reader... then it'll have everything. But for that insane price, it has to offer Robson and HDMI.
It mentions Blu-ray and a up to a 2mp camera, as well, but I didn't see those options in the configurator.
But man, what a beast of a machine!
