Dell's XPS M1330 finally ships to all regions this week
There's good news this morning for those of you stuck in the Dell XPS M1330 build queue. After weeks of delay, Dell has finally kicked it into large-scale production and expect M1330 systems to ship in all regions "beginning this week." Unfortunately, this update comes a tad late for those of you who felt jerked around by Dell's uninformed customer service reps. For the rest, your 13.3-inch LED-backlit fix should be on the way.

Do you know if the 1520s (Inspirons) were affected by such delay by any chance? I'm suppose to be getting mine by the end of the week or the upcoming Monday.
Yes, my 1520 was suppose to ship 7/26, then got bumped to 8/2. I contacted a customer service rep who told me:
"At this time, there is not a particular component that is causing a delay. I don't know if that was the case prior to today. Last week, our manufacturing group went to twenty-four hours in production to get the systems out as quickly as possible. I'll keep my eye on your order, and I will relay any further information to you."
Hopefully they'll be shipping soon.
Finally...I can stop thinking about switching to other machines...
The new "Vostro" set of Dell small business laptops were similarly delayed, and I was similarly jerked around by cust support. But on Sunday, my Vostro 1400 went into production (ordered on July 12!)
Mine's been into production since the 19th. :\
I gave up on the m1330 after my 20+ days wait and 4 delayed delivery dates. I got a Macbook pro instead and I'm loving it. =>
Hope you have a cooling pad, your going to need it, else it doesn't burn your legs!
My M1330 has been "in production" since June 29th ... and I still don't have it. And customer service was no help at all.
sweet - I read this and checked my shipping status -- it arrives TODAY!
Do let us know if it actually arrives.
@Mark, quit lying!
yep -- it has been delivered -- waiting at the front office for me to pick it up after work!
Dell seems to have a popular laptop here. Is it me or are they slowing turning themselves in the right direction?
People are really impatient. When I ordered mine on the 26th of June, I always just assumed that it'd take about a month for them to build the thing. Whenever a company comes out with a brand-new, cutting-edge product, you have to allow them time to ramp up production and such. My estimated ship date has always been July 31st (coincidentally, tomorrow, just like the Dell guy is saying now). Relax, you'll get your laptop everyone, and I'm sure we'll all love it to death. Just give it another week.
Yes, the same delay happened when Apple introduced the brand new, cutting edge iPhone. They never had any in any stores, but if you wanted to buy one, they would gladly take your money or place a hold on your credit card for the amount of the sale and promise one in a week. And when that delivery date arrived, they would say next week for sure, and so on and so forth for two months.
Of course this didn't happen with the iPhone, Apple actually knows what they are doing when it comes to brand new, cutting edge products.
Well aside from the good new of this post, I sadly just now recieved word from Round Rock (Dell Corporate) of a new engineering hold... they hope to have mass manufacturing up by SEPTEMBER. I ordered on the 26th... and online it still shows the ESD of 7/31, lets see if someone was blowing smoke up this guys arse.
Mine says:
XPS M1330, Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 (1.8GHz/800Mhz FSB, 2M L2 Cache)
Ordered
7/23/2007
Status
In Production
Estimated aship date
9/7/2007
Ship dates have been 6-8 weeks or more after a first attempt to order. Intel CPU's can have their price fall by 50% over 90 days, and RAM prices have been falling. A pair of 1 Gib sticks have fallen by $45 since I ordered.
I must agree with Ben of Direct2Dell:
The computer market is crazy volatile, and a processor released two or 3 months ago is [...] subsequently deeply discounted. That means our purchases are depreciating while dell is incapable of delivering them to us. Plus they are now offering a promotion[s...]
The delay gave me time to think…never good. Was just about to get in that ridiculous queue when I saw the announcement for the Sony Vaio SZ6 refreshed to the Santa Rosa chipset. I spec'ed one out as close as possible to the configuration of the M1330 I planed on ordering and the difference in price surprised me. The Dell was only $300… MORE!
Comparing the two at that price, I found that while the Dell was the only unit to offer an HDMI out, a multi media remote and an additional 64k of dedicated video card RAM, the Sony offers several other core features the Dell is lacking:
1. the laptop at this size to offer Windows ReadyDrive (an H-HDD with 256K flash memory attached to traditional platters spinning at 5400 rpm)
2. a real docking port (Port Replicator)
3. Hybrid Graphics System - provides a choice between two hardware switchable video cards (to save power)
4. a faster chip set as standard: SR - T7500 @ 2.2 GHz (vs. T7300 @ 2.0)
5. an internal modem card
6. 1 Gb fast Ethernet card
Ouch, that's a LOT of extra stuff for less money.
Aesthetically, the SZ's carbon fiber case vs. Dell's three case color options is a pick'em to me. Credit Dell in that they wisely allow more options for WWAN connections (AT&T, Verizon and Sprint), whereas, at present, Sony only let's you connect to Sprint for EVDO rev. A. Personally, I'll be using Bluetooth to tether to Verizon's rev. A service over my existing cell phone's data plan.
Another consideration, Sony still insists on loading-up their machines with tons of crapware while Dell, mercifully, does not.
The final blow though comes with the realization that the Sony's are set to arrive in stores tomorrow, August 1! Order the Dell today and get it… when?
So, while Dell may have the edge for a multimedia user… and may later get around to adding some of the missing items… at present, I gotta go with the Sony… hands down.
Mine still has the same est. delivery date: 8/16
Wow. I am not the only one with this waiting problem. It's my first laptop and I think I'll just wait for it. If people don't think about it too much, time will go fast and everyone will get theirs in no time.
:D
it's by no means done, but here's a quick review I've written (unboxing, simple usage, etc)
http://www.jrin.net/reviews/dell-xps-m1330/
it's mostly just pictures, and comparisons to the m1210 -- I'll be writing up more about actual usage within the next few days!
Mine was ordered on 05-07 and is in preproduction since 27-07.
EDD is now 07-09... AARRGGHH!
Two months: that's quite long.
Here's how mine is coming along, I'm glad I waited to order it, I can't wait for it to arrive.
XPS M1330, Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 (1.5GHz/667Mhz FSB, 2M L2 Cache)
Order Date:
7/29/2007
Status:
In Production
est. delivery date:
8/20/2007
So what happened to the promised 2.4GHz?????? No one seems to know.
I just spoke to a representative about my laptop and she said there were no holds on any of my equiptment or engineering holds, and that I should have it before the est. delivery date. I'm very excited about this.
I ordered mine on 7/20 and the ship date is 8/14... I was hoping it would ship this week! It hasn't yet..anyone having any luck with shipping theirs?
My order was pushed back once because the screwed up my extended warranty code, so my online expected ship dated was changed to 09/03. But GOOD NEWS, my laptop was shipped yesterday 08/02. I ordered by phone the first day it was released June 26th. So those of you who have been waiting over a month as I have don't fret, your new baby will arrive sooner than you think ;)
I finally got my XPS M1330 but the hologram on the XPS lid came off when I got it. I called to request for a hologram to be sent so I could just stick it myself but I was told they can't do it and they were just going to send me a replacement. I wonder how long do I have to wait again.
