Vista Performance and Reliability Pack hits the web prematurely
Don't look now, but Microsoft is apparently readying a Vista Performance and Reliability Pack for release, and while it's certainly not available through Windows Update just yet, that doesn't mean it's not hiding elsewhere. Reportedly, the aforementioned pack and the Vista Compatibility and Reliability Pack will institute a number of welcome fixes and performance increases in a variety of areas, and though the list is indeed lengthy, a few notables include:
[Via TechSpot]
- Increased compatibility with many video drivers.
- Improved visual appearance of games with high intensity graphics.
- Improved quality of playback for HD DVD and Blu-ray disks on large monitors.
- Improved reliability for Internet Explorer when some third party toolbars are installed on Vista.
- Improved reliability of systems that were upgraded from XP to Vista.
- Resolves an issue where creating AVI files on Vista may get corrupted.
- Improves the performance of Vista's Memory Manager in specific customer scenarios and prevents some issues which may lead to memory corruption.

Cool, I've ben waiting to crank up the "intensity" meter to "high" on all my games.
Download is down. Can someone Rapidshit this?
Just hope they include A patch to allow double clicking the network connection system tray icon or atleast a shorter way to launch A Network connection's current status .
Does n e1 know how to do this ?
If you right click that icon and then click Network and Sharing Center, that might have what you're looking for in there. I agree it's weird that you can't double click it, for what it's worth.
Just click it and it tells you whether it is connected and where to in a pop-up, if you want more info click on a link in the box that says Network and sharing centre. It only takes 2 clicks, and I find it less irritating than the XP system.
I also love that the icon lets you know if it has a net connection or just local. Very useful feature.
Er...isn't this a Service Pack? Are they too ashamed to call it a Service Pack? How long did it take for XP SP1 came out?
A nice laundry list of reasons I'm not running Vista right now... (XP works fine for me, I'll wait it out...)
Cool Everett, thanks for that helpful and on-topic information! Be sure to post it in a dozen other stories while you're here. Thanks again!
I mean where they trying to make this more secure or something ?????
I don't understand there thinking there ?!
If there goal was to put a kind of lid on that they should have seccured it with UAC or some other password protection..
Hrmm... Local Network Password protection ...
Naa , better not give em any ideas ;)

PS: another thing I wish they would allow is users the ability to sort files and folders by first letter , all you have now is just a-c d-g etc etc or something like that.
Sorry this reply was aimed at Aaron.
Huh? OS X doesn't have any anti-piracy measures. Only builds which are sent out to developers use the TPM chip if that's what you mean. Almost every Mac user there is will be running a copy of Leopard when it comes out, you just install it and it works....

So which one is right? ;)
Really sorry for the comment hijack, but I thought this would be useful info for Vista users.
The fix for the corrupted AVI files may be the release version of the beta hotfix for this issue. When I first got Vista, I was unable to rip and convert my DVD collection. I wanted to use my desktop as a movie server (with the MyMovies plug-in) for my Xbox360.
However, Vista apparently had some sort of process conflict with anything related to video conversion. I found the beta hotfix on Transcode360's website, and was finally able to rip my DVD's to the hard drive. With the Spring ('06) update for the 360, I can now rip them as a bit-for-bit MPEG2 with full 5.1 support. Makes an unbeatable movie server.
I guess my point is, you need the hotfix to do this. Those of you with Vista (or XP MCE) and a 360 should check it out. MyMovies is awesome (www.mymovies.name) and developer-supported (free for us). And no, I don't work for them.
Actually you can PIRATE OSX... it's call OSx86 lol
Stupid OSX users... they dont know anything - which is why they use OSX in the first place lol
I haven't even looked at the posts yet, but i wager that some bitchy person has already started complaining about this performance and reliability pack
Where can i download the pack?
Improved booting time.
There seems to be an improvement in the booting time.
Booting time does seem to be a problem with Vista. But only 10 seconds or so more than a good XP boot.
The links for the non 64 bit version have been disabled.
Dan,
Let me sum it up correctly, because you are lying in your summary.
Disc for music media.
Disk for everything else.
