Looks like those rumors about new Macs (specifically,
iMacs) on
the 7th were true -- we were just invited to an Apple "product presentation for Mac" at Apple Town Hall in Cupertino next week. The event gets started on the morning of Tuesday, August 7th, and while we weren't promised an appearance by El Jobso, Apple was, shockingly enough, very open and clear about the fact that this is going to be a press gathering for Mac products (and Mac products only -- so stash away those
iPhone hopes, fears, and rumors until next Wednesday).
At that town hall event, Apple released both the Intel Mac mini AND the (pretty much forgotten about) iPod Hi Fi. So hopefully they'll be doing two or more products again.
What, a Mac announcement?!? Gee and only 8 months into "a year of exciting Mac announcements."
DAMNIT! I'm going on vacation next week so my liquid assets will be somewhat limited. This press event is just gonna make it worse. I guess that's what credit is for :)
Regarding refresh rates, I cannot tell you how many times friends of mine, who do not keep their ear to the ground regarding mac news or rumors, have gotten the itch to get a mac right when I think it the worst time (an obvious update around the corner), and they scratch that itch anyway. It is just odd how that timing works.
Last time I was suprised so was the Quadra 840AV being announced the day after I got my Quadra 800.
new xserve raid based upon sas-sata
Looking forward to this! An iMac update is evident.
Still, I'm hoping Apple come out with a proper desktop computer. The iMac has limited specs due to its form factor, and not everyone wants a new screenwith it. The Mac Pro is a workstation, and is itself in need of a redesign.

There's always a blank space in the product matrix.
The 7th is my birthday! what an awesome present!
what i was trying to get across was iMACS...
there will be new ones....
Whatever it is that is new I hope they come with a voucher for a free upgrade to Leopard. It seems a little ridiculous to buy a new computer with an OS two months before the new OS comes out. If they do this then they definitely boost their back to school sales.
I'VE BEEN HOLDING OUT FOR A NEW IMAC FOR OVER 6 MONTHS - THERE BETTER BE A COOL IMAC RELEASED TUESDAY! I DESERVE IT.
WHOO-HHOOOO!
I bet they're just announcing new iMacs that will come out along with Leopard. Maybe they'll announce a Leopard date?
I'm hoping for a new iPod. My mom wants one, so I can give her mine and get a new 6Gen. My dad could have her shuffle then. :) I'm hoping for a Leopard release date, too. My macbook is new enough, so it doesn't need an update, but Leopard looks awesome and I want to know when I should be line waiting. ;)
or iPood
Yeah. rumors mill start you guessing.
My wish list (from most hoped to least hope):
1)a 12" notebook or convertible/tablet notebook
2)imac
3)mac mini replacement
4)ipod (could be nano or full size)
Sweet. New iMacs are exactly what I want!
my dad has been waiting for a new iMac since the beginning of the year. he's been holding out because I've been telling him to because i just had a feeling that Apple would be revamping their iMacs this year. Hope I'm right.
As for a 6G iPod, would welcome it but won't be expecting it. Townhalls are usually product specific, unlike keynotes, and if Apple says it will only be about the Mac, then it will only be about the Mac.
Omgomgomg! I've been waiting for this for a long time! I'd like:
- new iMac
- new Cinema Displays
- new redesigned laptops (cause the Aluminum design for the MacBook Pro has been here for how long?)
So all those rumors about the 7th is true..
Ordered a MacBook Pro with glossy screen three weeks ago. Now delivery has been pushed forward 4 weeks, while normal screen is available. I expect iMac's with glossy screens..
if I were you, I'd ask them to postpone the order another week (or cancel). Just in case.
I think the only annoucement will be the the iMac. Apple will want to present iLife and iWork '08 and the features in those to a larger audience, so I think we can expect another event in late september or october for those. That's probably also when they will present iPod updates. This event is meant to focus on the Mac. The iPhone release was only a month ago, which makes it logical to wait with new iPhone/iPod announcements.
To all those who keep saying they hope for a new iPod to be revealed the 7th, please read the article again. It specifically says its gonna be a mac only event! That means no new iPods.
Perhaps - maybe just - we'll get a computer that's ATX-compatible, and can be upgraded PC style, but is not a tower? Something to replace the Mac Mini.
One thing that's fo sho though - they'll make the iMac and Mac mini have 1GB of RAM by default. They're the only Macs still with 512MB as the cheapest option, and with them pushing the whole Windows via VMWare/Parallels thing, it would be handy. Not to mention extra speed with Vista - we all know that Vista on 512MB is about as fun as cancer.
I just want Leopard so I can buy a macbook before I go to uni in October. I can't live for a month without a computer until the end of October! But I'm also not buying a product with an end of life OS...
Bought a MBP about 5 months ago, before the update. Bought new iMac 4 months ago, now being updated! Darn it! Some other members of my family need a new iMac and a MB, maybe I will sell them my iMac and get the new one... I DO love my iMac though, don't know what i'd have done over the last few months without it so I guess I am not too disappointed.
Has anybody even thought of their server line? Last time these saw an update was over a year ago if I'm correct.
Look here. http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#Xserve
You will see that on the 7th it's exactly a year ago since the last product update.
i don't know if this means anything, but i was at multiple apple stores this weekend looking at macbook pro's, and they were sold out of the 2.2 GHz 15" model everywhere. they weren't sure when more were coming in either. maybe they're phasing that out, but they just updated them, whywould the introduce new models?
After holding out for years with my late model 12" Powebook, I finally bit the bullet and ordered a 15" MacBook Pro (2.4GHz BTI with a 7200rpm 160Gb HDD) around the 25th of June, it has now been over 5 weeks and still no word. I wouldn't mind if it shipped within the quoted 7-10 days, but it hasn't.
If Apple redesign the MacBook Pros I'll be real upset... Especially if mine were to ship after an announcement. Hrmmm... I could only hope that if there is an refresh of the MacBook Pro design that it is the reason for the delay.
There's only one way to find out... Wait...
And cross my fingers.
i heard something about apple introducing touch screen macbooks and possibly desktop. i can't see it happening so soon but i question it with the iphone out now..i guess that wouldn't be too farfetched. especially when you can see how they've incorporated cover flow and other iphone features into the new os.

As in "it came" (it = new mac?) or expressing elation that it *will* come. A very typical Japanese response.
日本語を話せる人にごめんね。。。みんな分からないからね。笑
They will be updating the iMac, the Mac Pro, and either updating or killing the Mac mini. Also expect updated displays. A new laptop is also very likely, and the entire laptop line will be moving to LED-backlit displays. Oh, and the 17-inch iMac will be replaced with a new 20-inch model.
correction-- I meant to say that the 17 inch iMac will be discontinued... Apple will be introducing a new sub-notebook and a 20 inch MacBook Pro. Mark my words...

BTW: New iMac photo revealed: http://oriesko.rajce.idnes.cz/temp/images/iMac_2007.jpg
I don't understand why everyone thinks the new imacs will be aluminum. That's so 2001 (when the titanium powerbooks came out.) I really think the imacs will be black ala the iPhone. After all, the current rev of the imac was modeled after the iPod. And the current design trend in Japan is black electronics.
So 2001? Let's see...MacBook Pro - Aluminium. Mac Pro - Aluminium. Cinema Displays - Aluminium. iPod Shuffle - Aluminium. iPod nano - Aluminium. I rest my case.
my point was that the brushed metal look is getting old. It was introduced into Apple's hardware in 2001. Sure, it's in a fair amount of products currently, however the look is getting old because apple has been using brushed metal since... 2001. Just because a number of Apple's current hardware has the brushed metal look doesn't mean that all future hardware will have the same look until the end of time. The metal look will end eventually. The hottest trends show electronics moving towards black. I'd be disappointed with a brushed aluminum imac. A slick, glossy imac would be more trendy and Apple has been known to set a trend here and there.

I'm kind of disappointed on the new iMac, I heard some rumours said that new iMacs gonna turn to metal, I like it white! Gosh! How could they do this!
