"yes and try doing this in the middle of gameplay and having your character jump instead of dodging left...etc."
you make no sense...
why my character will jump instead of dodging left ???
its like complaining that my character jump instead of fire the weapon when press X (the button for jump)
thats why some call it control... because you control it, it dont control you, if the character do something diferent, is because you press the wrong button or use the control wrong, dont blame the interface, blame the user.
Unless you are one of those who like swinging and jumping, incline your self left and rigth, and moving the control all over the room (regular control not the wii) then i understand why you dont see the potential, and only see problems.
Im one of those who dont exercise so much when play games, i dont like move my keyboard and mouse like crazy when surfing and playing games in the pc either.
I love how opera made the browsing so simple, fast and easy with mouse gestures, im looking for something similar in the ps3. (and not, i never closed one window by mistake with mouse gestures, im in the control of the mouse, not the mouse has control of me)
PS3??
What's that?
I've only heard of the Wii!
I know Linux is available, but seriously, even Ubuntu requires a fair amount of coding in order to get it working flawlessly on a machine (especially those with ATI graphics cards).
Feel free to correct me if there is a version of Linux that you'd like to recommend.
So where exactly do I put the mouse and keyboard on my couch? I'd wager the vast majority of PS3's are out in a living/family room. Hunched over to the coffee table or on a lap doesn't exactly scream ergonomics.
you got a good point there. but at least this gives people the option. and i'm sure if someone wanted to use the KB/M that bad they would work something out. table, laptop table something like that.
in the air, that's how

Too bad the PS3 hypervisor severely limits the potential of any alternative operating system on the PS3.
very interesting, game developers see money they could save and get to reach it FPS games usergroup that also has a PS3 or planning to get one when the price is more decent.
UT, Quakewars are developed by true hard core FPS developers and they know consoles brings them more money for drugs than only keep releasing and developing their games primary for hard core PC gamers.
Specially single player FPS games since more PC users know how get and install warez while console users are usually noobs and like to nag to parents to buy crappy games they finish in a day and thats why the got a console in the first place. since noobs dont know how to unpack and burn without a manual lulz.
The issue has been that developers had to dumb down PC FPS games control, content and even A.I when they port it from PC to console and the other way just turns out so crappy no one bothers.
Anyhow i like the option, and i hope others follow.
If u want to put your PS3 on a desk to a new nice HD LCD and play decent FPS games with decent controls. done.
If you want to play the same game with a gamepad on you sofa against keyb/mouse users GL prepare to be raped with knife from behind. i bet u change to a gamedisc developed for gamepad within minutes after insane humiliation
I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet...
THIS WILL DESTROY UT3!! Mouse and keyboard is a LOT MORE accurate than the PS3 controller so everyone without a mouse/keyboard will lose all the time. The online game will just be a bunch of people who bought the mouse-keyboard and a few stupid people without it getting owned.
Also, everyone can STFU about how much "better" mouse-keyboard is. Like the one guy said earlier: "I can consistently get headshots with mouse and I can't with the controller" [paraphrase].
EXACTLY!! You know why that is? BECAUSE ANY NOOB CAN USE A MOUSE AND IT TAKES SKILL AND TIME TO BE AN EXPERT WITH THE CONTROLLER.
Mouse is more accurate, but it's not better. Getting headshots and becoming dominant with the controller takes a long time. Any noob can just jump in a console shooter with a mouse/keyboard and start owning immediately. Also, it will change the more tactical-oriented style of console shooters and it will turn them into twitchfests where the person who doesn't poke their shoulder out and knows all the glitches wins.
Stupid. Play PC FPSs if you want mouse-keyboard. Keep that trash away from my PS3 and 360.
more accurate not better ?
hmmm so FPS amish style whiping your back with a controller must be better for you ?
Gosh did not know.
what is your point thats like telling NBA baskeball players to play without shoes and play on a carpet instead.
it´s not more fun or optimal, its just harder because that how god would like it right ?
noobs dont even know how to take advantage in settings of good mouse sensitivity imagine a gamepader against a pro 1600 dpi.
thats like letting Shaq slamdunk a basketball on to the face of a 10 year old.
like the article said, unfair advantage.
Hey donut, read the article, there is a filter to play only joypad gamers, only keyboard/mouse gamers or both.
I will be surprised to see PC to PS3 play considering the announcement at E3 that the U3 Engine will have Windows Live integrated into it for multiplayer gaming.
http://www.developmag.com/news/28053/E3-2007-Unreal-Engine-3-gets-Games-for-Windows-Live-integration
it will have windows live built in but currently there arn't any plans to enable it in the two current games. being UT3 and Gears of War. though i would assume gears of war would be a GFW game but obviously w/o live.
Keyboard and mouse is the only way to play first person shooters. Most console FPS's are going the direction of trying to be more realistic and strategic. Controllers work fine for that type of game. On the other hand, UT3 is trying to be true to it's roots and maintain the wicked fast eye bleeding game play. Anything other than a K/M just won't maintain that sense of game play. For those that really enjoy being limited to a controller, my guess is that it wouldn't be too hard for them to make controller restricted versions of their servers.
I have both a top end pc and a ps3 and although i do find control alot simpler for FPS games on the PC with a keyboard and mouse, I like the difference from using a dual stick controller. I could easily plug a keyboard and mouse into my PS3 and perform much better than controller using players (the turning limitation factor is a big one), but I like playing in both styles.
I don't think this is intended to settle the war between the keyboard/mouse combo and the console controller, but it gives people who don't have a high end gaming PC the option to play the game as if they did, and experience the greater fidelity in control.
I don't really understand why this is big news; Unreal Tournament on the PS2 had full keyboard and mouse support.
Praise Jeebus! Console controllers are horrible for FPS and even worse because the cause severe thumb injuries. The thumb is not an accurate instrument.
Anyone who whines about how KB/Mouse is for noobs, go stick your heads back up your a**. There are professional PC gaming competitions, with players of varying skill levels, NONE of whom are dumb enough to use a bloody gamepad. Thumb sticks to the dumpster!
