HDMI-equipped Xbox 360 Premiums still carry 90nm chips
Well it appears that despite all of our wishing, hoping, and positive-thinking exercises, Microsoft has failed to deliver on a small dream of ours, namely, 65nm chips for the new HDMI-rocking Xbox 360 Premiums. Despite signs pointing otherwise, new photos show that this batch of systems continue to carry the Zephyr motherboard layout, which uses the older, hotter 90nm chips, though the boys in Redmond have addressed the heat issue a little bit with the addition of a second "daughter" heatsink attached to the CPU by heatpipe. The new 65nm "Falcon" boards -- which chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) confirmed are in production -- are still on their way according to the rumor mill, slated for release sometime this Fall. Interestingly, Microsoft and TSMC have just laid plans to produce the Xbox's graphics-memory subsystem using the chip manufacturer's 90nm embedded DRAM spec. We won't speculate on when we'll start seeing that addition appear, however.

Get the audio adapter that's included in the Elite if you want to use HDMI.
Yeah, I just saw that adapter online, I wasn't aware they already have a solution for my problem. That makes the Elite only $50 more than the HDMI Premium now since I have to buy that stupid adapter to get HDMI. GRRRRR. Oh well, life's not fair I guess.
That is an ignorant design. Most people don't have HDMI receivers...
I am waiting to purchase an xbox 360 and getting frustrated with the wait, but I for one will NOT buy until the 65 nm is installed. I will not spend my money on any item that has a history of poor reliability.
For M$ to keep producing 360s without properly addressing the issues, and not some half assed lame daughter heat sink,is irresponsible. It could be said that the current xbox is of un-merchantable quality and should not be retailed at all, whatever happened to LEMON laws.
To say i will send it back WHEN (not if) it shits itself is ridiculous, M$ has a responsibility to fix the issues PROPERLY and manufacture goods of a good quality standard. They are clearly not doing that and still lumping these dogs on the public, shame on you M$!
They did (are) address(ing) the issues. It's called a 3 year warranty newer heatpipes and 65nm (which honestly is really not a big deal) die size.
Exactly, they are in the PROCESS of fixing it, bit by bit instead of addressing all the issues and fixing it once and for all. When is it going to be right, instead we get, "lets try this and see if it works" , ooops NO, lets try this...ooops No,in the mean time the public are getting jammed up the kyber pass

Thank goodness the 360 crowd don't design, run and maintain the airport radar systems and plane navigation systems, otherwise we would have thousands of people being killed every day of the week
I got a HDMI premium (made 7.03.2007)and compared it to my March 2006 Original Xbox 360 and found out a a few things:
* HDMI hookup does not look significantly better than VGA
* The newer unit actually got even hotter than the older unit (Well ventilated area - Xbox 360 was horizontal) even thought they had the same heatsink.
* The Ben Q drive was not that much quieter than the Hitachi
* The HDMI premium is going back to the store
* Zephyr < Falcon. I'll wait until the newer units in late 07 have the Ben Q, newer heat sinks, and 65nm (Which isn't all that important. It's just more energy efficient.)
I bought my 360 on 12/19/2005 and never had a problem -- until today. I got the RROD and called it in to MS. The guy told me it would take 3-4 weeks to get it repaired. Anecdotally, he said some receive theirs in as little as 2 weeks. I asked hime if this would be the new 65nm chipset and he said YES. BTW, my 360 was on top of my entertainment console and was well ventilated. I thought I was in the clear after all this time, but I guess after 1.5 years, it was time.
