DS version of Guitar Hero III to feature a guitar controller?
It's not set in stone, but in an interview with CNET.au, RedOctane cofounder Charles Huang suggested that the DS version of Guitar Hero III would include a guitar controller "as long as it makes sense and it plays well." Huang went on to say that RedOctane is "exploring ways to get peripherals on a DS game," and that the company is working on approach with Nintendo's assistance. Given the novel controllers we've already seen hit the DS, RedOctane's got some work to do to back up Huang's assertion that GHIII on the DS "will play probably unlike any other DS game that has come out," but we're willing to give the company the benefit of the doubt -- they seem to have a handle on that whole "gameplay" thing.

I would love a GBA peripheral that is like a colored keyboard. Just press the buttons just like Guitar Hero... That would be the same size as a GBA cartridge, so it would be perfect for the DS Lite. I don't know about the DS Phat, but I'm assuming this is finally when Nintendo tells people to "kick the habit" and start to use the Lites.
Maybe it'll be interesting. But I doubt it will plug into the headphone/microphone jack.
I would think that having a guitar controller for the DS defeats its portability. Maybe they should just make a Ukulele Hero; at least it'll be much smaller.
"Tiny bubbles....."
Let's hope they don't make it the size that the photoshopper did. Those buttons are smaller than my pinky!
The local gamestop had a package of guitar type picks that were for the DS. I asked what they were for, and he said a guitar hero game coming out later. So maybe they will just use the touchscreen?
I think that´s for Jam Sessions. It´s like an "enhanced" version of the Japanese guitar application for the DS. It´s going to be from Ubisoft, I think it comes out really soon.
Nick K is correct about Jam Sessions, the translated version of "Hiite Utaeru DS Guitar M-06". Those picks are just for marketing and/or a way to squeeze more pennies out of people. Just get a cheap soft pick for much less at your local guitar shop. BTW, Jam Session/M-06 is an awesome app; can't wait for its release! Played the Japanese version, but when it came to the menus and options, I was always second guessing what I was trying to read! Haha
I think it'd be cool to have a controller that would slip onto your thumb and then let you press the keys; it could still be small that way, but would feel similar to the full-sized controller. Of course, then you don't have the strum part, but you could always either have a separate strum part that clipped onto your waist or a way to strum on the DS (or with the DS by moving it).
I was thinking it might use the touchscreen at first, seeing that it is a interesting and sometimes efficient form of input. The only thing I'm skeptical of is how they would work chords using the touchscreen. I thought that it could only take one input/stylus, and even then you don't use more than one stylus (hopefully). My guess is that they use the touchscreen to strum, and having 2 options for input. They would use the default buttons on the DS, with the A/B/X/Y buttons being "frets" and any directional button or different spot on screen being starpower. Or, they could use an add-on as pictured above.
I'm sure it'll have some kind of coloured buttons and a strum bar addon for the fret buttons and the game will be extended over 2 screens. I'm thinking the DS will clip into the addon and the buttons will be on the left and the strum bar on the right.
they should develop the guitar controller in a similar fasion to how the DS is played for brainage, where you open it like a book.
have the touch screen run as the strum board, and have an additional attachment that would work similar to the current guitars for the PS2.
only problem i really see in this is visability of the screen but you could always play it while looking down to see the notes you need to hit.
A mini guitar for the DS? That would be very small and confusing to use. I'm looking forward how this would turn out to be.
yet another DS game you'll look silly playing. kinda like Phoenix Wright - yelling "OBJECTION!" at it.
I had an idea for the guitar hero on ds. where you have a regular normal size guitar controller but on the face of the guitar controller you kinda attach your ds system to it. you play the game by strumming the tunes but instead of looking at the television like on the ps2 game you're looking down at the ds attached to the guitar controller. i don't know if it will work or it's understandable but that's my idea and in my head it looks right.
