Kevlar-lined clothing a hot commodity in London
It's no secret that rashes of violent crime in London have been plaguing the city for some time now, but some parents are going to Kevlar-lined extremes in order to protect their offspring whilst away from home. Reportedly, orders for Kevlar-infused school uniforms and casual wear have skyrocketed of late, as school-aged stabbings seem to be on the rise. Notably, plenty of orders are coming in from the States as well, and while Deputy Asst. Commissioner Al Hitchcock claimed that merely "one-percent" of crimes around London involved a knife, mums and dads would seemingly rather be safe than sorry.[Via Wired]

Hello all,
My Name is Edie and I am an Alcoholic … sorry wrong forum.
Just kidding!
This is just my personal opinion, I think all of your comments are very valid and touch base on a collective area of concern. No offence intended to our American cousins, but when you catch a cold we sneeze, you have witnessed first hand what happens with guns, underprivileged, single parents and gangster culture... There is also a problem in the UK that mirrors your highest crime areas. I believe providing kids with armour are not the answer. Providing civilians with easily accessibility to firearms is a no brainer, as these areas will really go through the roof! Your asking for trouble... if I had a gun and some turd really p!ssed me off one day! I might be inclined to at least point it at him!! People don't carry sweets if they don't intend on eating them!
Throwing arguments back and forth will not create a solution! Kids are being raised by kids this we know, they are of low morale fibre and lack self discipline as they are a generation born of single parents the majority of children in these underprivileged areas only get a hard life and less you know or are a single parent can you really understand why.
The children then become Influenced by TV idols or football stars or the latest craze in music, which happens to be rap and hip hop, rapping about guns, hoes, and gettin rich! Hip-hop is the largest influence on hoodies and young felons. I see hoodies and kids dressed as rappers, intimidating people in groups all the time where I live in the Southeast. I cannot think of one intimidating encounter with a teen of other music interests that has had a solid upbringing.
Bad influence + bad upbringing = bad seed.
Now to my point, which I must apologies has taken this long... armour may stop a bullet and may reduce the impact of a knife, but it will not stop a bat, a brick, a bottle, a group of kids kicking and punching etc.. etc. If these kids want to hurt you they will until they get severely punished or really hurt back… it’s the logic they have been raised and influenced on.
The armour may save some, but it will not remove the problem, to do that we must go to the source.
