Casio just hit us with pair of new face detecting, YouTube-ready Exilim cameras. The EX-Z1080 is little more than their 10 megapixel
EX-Z1050 with a bit of their new H.264,
YouTube Capture Mode sprinkled in. The EX-V8 then, bumps the
ho humly reviewed EX-V7 into 8.1 megapixel territory while maintaining the 7x zoom and CCD-shift image stabilization while slapping some YouTube branding and trickery atop its existing H.264 video capabilities. Both cams will pop in September with the V8 hitting for $330 and the Z1080 demanding a cool $280. Click on through for a picture of the Z1080 in a lovely shade of purple-nurple.

Great - now more idiots can post up carbon copy skits and other useless bandwidth hungry videos that do nothing but eat up bandwidth. I have to admit though, there are only a few that are worth viewing on youtube: chocolate rain video, and of course the famous Rick Asley video.

Shouldn't the 1080 be MORE expensive? HD, 2 more megapixels? And it costs less?? I say typo.

Not a typo, EX V8 has 7x optical zoom. while EX Z1080 only has 3x. I actually bought the EX V8 already , at Best Buy this past weekend. I went in to look at EX V7 and they had one EX V8 in stock which they sold to me. Have not used much yet, will post a review when I can

Ooh I see. My Canon only has 4x, and thats pretty normal I guess. But 7, thats like twice as much, and I can see how the pictures would look amazing, even without the extra megapixels. Especially considering how my camera SUCKS for pictures far away. I stand corrected.

So basically Casio did not improve a thing with their cameras? Apparently marketing also handles engineering over at their office. Why improve the camera quality, if we can just slap a popular name onto the scene mode like Youtube, or Ebay.
