We're certainly not complaining about
yet another professional sports team
opting for a
svelte HD Jumbotron, but the Diamondbacks' claim to soon have the "largest
scoreboard in pro sports" is dodgy at best. Reportedly, the board will cost between $10 and $12 million to erect and will measure in at "144 feet wide and 55 feet high," which the team claims is 900-square feet larger "than the biggest existing board, at Atlanta's Turner Field." Nevertheless, the D-Backs have certainly been trumped already in terms of HD scoreboard planning, as the Dallas Cowboys are slated to treat their fans to a pair of 180 feet wide by 50 feet high displays as part of a
four-screen setup in 2009. So if all goes as planned, Arizona's MLB club will indeed be sporting the largest high-definition screen in pro sports for a tick, but those mighty claims will soon be squashed by the sensational installation headed to Texas.
I'm from the UK but I saw the D-Backs play when I was in the states a few weeks ago. I thought I'd comment 'cos I recognised the team! That's all I have to comment :)
Maybe the fans would rather see that money spent on a free agent?
Ummm not really... they are on the top of their division with a great crop of healthy young talent....
Sorry, but I have to say that for a name like "Grammar freak," you should have known better than to end a comment like that with a question mark.
*sigh*
I'm a Cowboys fan, and I've seen renderings of the new stadium, it's like a planet onto itself.
Just don't have Romo help install Dallas' new screen. Wouldn't want to drop that puppy.
HAHAHAHA, did you think that up all by yourself? You should be a comedian or something, wow.
I was pretty sure they were referring to UT, not the Dallas Cowboys.
I like how they slipped in that "pro sports" line since the University of Texas has a scoreboard much bigger than the one at Turner Field. The Longhorns scoreboard is 134 x 55 so the Diamondbacks board will be 10 feet wider.

I love how we're paying more and more money each year to go to a stadium to see the game on a big TV.
Well it's helpful for people in the cheap seats. Of course, there is no cheaper seat than your couch, but still.
man i'm pissed i always hoped that dolphin stadium would keep the largest for longer. 140x50 feet is ours. oh well. guess it was time.
What an incredible waste of perfectly good technology. For $14M, we could be making a sizable investment in the space program. But, no, it's going to be used to display .... the score between the two teams. And maybe a few advertisements. Whoopee.
everything is bigger in Texas
lets goooo COWBOYS!!!
they are building a Coliseum for the Romo Empire!
hahaha
Screw the big lights, this is why I like Wrigley Field -- manual scoreboard, baby! We're kickin' it 1910s-style...
I'll give it a day before it overheats.
I live in Brookings South Dakota where Daktronics is located (The company that made UT's scoreboard and will probably make this one) and let me tell you these things are made to last this will never over heat.
time for my 9ers to go ahead and blow them all away once their new stadium deetz are announced.......& u know it will 2 as its gonna be right in the heart of silicon valley walking distance to intel, amd, ebay, cisco & nVidia to name a few
