When did Intel come out with their Core 2 Dup processors?! I've been looking forward to them for so long, I had no idea they were already out.
Mason @ Aug 31st 2007 6:18PM
They're exclusive to Dell, they come out Sept 21st... didn't you read the article?!
AlexP @ Aug 31st 2007 12:58PM
Exclusive to Dell? What's the X7900 doing in my iMac then?
hpfanboi @ Aug 31st 2007 1:04PM
Probably because your iMac is a desktop.
AlexP @ Aug 31st 2007 1:17PM
Except the X7900 is a mobile processor.
Preston @ Aug 31st 2007 1:52PM
I think you guys missed the idea entirely.
Mason @ Aug 31st 2007 4:16PM
They were too late. Now we look like fools.
Shane @ Aug 31st 2007 11:39AM
Needs a few more whacks with the ugly stick. I liked the design of their m1330 much better. This is a bit on the bulky side...
Khris @ Aug 31st 2007 11:43AM
Get your Christmas orders in now while you can!!
Shane @ Aug 31st 2007 11:43AM
Before the smartass comments start, yes, I KNOW this is a totally different class of machine with more features and horsepower. I just have something against monsterous laptops I guess...At some point it kind of defeats the purpose of being a laptop.
KVM @ Aug 31st 2007 12:30PM
If I had a desktop instead of my M1710, I wouldn't be able to sit in bed and play Bioshock.
For a desktop replacement type gaming laptop like this, the most important downside at least for me is the heat, the second degree burns on my legs would attest to that. Hopefully the M1730 isn't too much worse.

In May while sitting at the Heathrow Airport in London surfing on my laptop I saw a 50 years old man dressed in a suit sitting with his laptop. It was a XPS with two big red lighted XPS logo on the back, making him sticking out amongst all the macbooks, Pavilions and Vaios.
I can't describe who silly he looked. He looked like those middle age crisis 45 years old men driving around in their Chrysler 300C trying to impress 20 years old girls.
With that being said the XPS design scheme needs a makeover.
Khris @ Aug 31st 2007 11:48AM
My XPS m1330 will stick out in the crowd as well......but for different reasons. Mine doesn't have disco lights! :)
bob @ Aug 31st 2007 11:53AM
You'll be that man someday my friend. Trust me. It'll sneak up on you! It sneaks up on all of us!
lorax1284 @ Aug 31st 2007 4:09PM
"I can't describe who silly he looked. He looked like those middle age crisis 45 years old men driving around in their Chrysler 300C trying to impress 20 years old girls."
I can guarantee you that man doesn't give a rats buttock what you think :-)
I'm a 41 year old with an XPS Gen 2 (me in t-shirt & jeans) and while wait to board a plane, sitting at the gate working away on my XPS, and fellow that looked rather "media company executive"-ish sat down right across from me and pulled out his XPS, all lit up and everything... (now that I think of it, I wonder if he was hitting on me!).
One 40-ish XPS user at a gate is 'unusual'. Two is a sign of the apocalypse.

Dell Delays
the m1330 has build times that are easily exceeding 6 weeks. they should probably push this release back another 6 months if its just gonna be another shortage-ridden release. they need to increase the number of units ramped up before release in order to ensure tolerable shipping times. i ordered my m1330 july 29 and it now has an expected ship date of Sep 10 - two weeks after classes start.
hartmania @ Aug 31st 2007 12:21PM
Wow i'm sure a lot of people are going to be lining up to drop 2 grand on...............that thing.
xck81 @ Aug 31st 2007 12:22PM
it's very ugly... :(... that's too bad... and what about the dell precision m6300???
Spanky @ Aug 31st 2007 2:14PM
the world should stop buying things because they are pretty. Buy them because they do what you want them to do. So what it is ugly, who are you trying to impress?
KVM @ Aug 31st 2007 12:32PM
Maybe they could take that time to scratch off that nasty paint job and color match the keyboard. Here's hoping.
waiownsyou @ Aug 31st 2007 12:37PM
I don't understand why the touchpad looks like it's designed for left-handed users
nate @ Aug 31st 2007 9:41PM
as is explained over and over after a post about this laptop is made (not that it's your fault you haven't seen them) it's centered under the keyboard so that you don't rest your wrist on it and so you don't have to move your hand while typing
Yubastard @ Aug 31st 2007 12:41PM
what about PhysX? wasn't dell comming out with something about PhysX in a laptop or whatever?
steve @ Aug 31st 2007 12:53PM
8700m GT 256mb? is that it? several laptops on the market already have 8700m GT 512mb cards in them though.
bigfoote0069 @ Sep 1st 2007 8:44PM
If you count SLI it comes to 512...kinda
Shunnabunich @ Aug 31st 2007 7:20PM
Wow, that is one ridiculously tiny trackpad. I assume they're bundling an external mouse with these so users have something to move the pointer with?
nate @ Aug 31st 2007 9:43PM
that trackpad is 4 inches across, it's just the computer is a beast
Nick @ Aug 31st 2007 8:56PM
8700m GT 256mb????????????????????????
Are they kidding or something?
what happened to "A system so powerfull and advanced, gaming itself will have to evolve?
Valgas @ Sep 1st 2007 12:24AM
I ran across this website that sold surplus Dell laptops for super cheap. Where is it!
Scrag @ Sep 3rd 2007 9:30AM
Any ideas how much this will cost if you go for the all singing all dancing model, Fastest cpu, SLI'd GPU, 4Gb, etc..... You get the point.
I need a new company PC for the word processing ;)
Slat @ Sep 3rd 2007 7:15PM
look what I found.

Design fail. If i am going to throw 3-4 grand i am going to wait for the latest Alienware m9750. I believe they will put in the latest nvidia 8800GTX SLI.
Check out 8800GTX ranking (http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html) and then x2 of the power for SLI enable and with a alienware design (http://www.alienware.com/product_detail_pages/area-51_m9750/area-51m_overview.aspx?SysCode=PC-LT-AREA51M9750A&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT)
then its equal to = "A system so powerfull and advanced, gaming itself will have to evolve"
Things will start to make sense at the end of the year.
"FUND YOUR HABITS" - alienware

Cool. Check out this video - looks like they show more of the system.

Seems its slipped until next Wednesday.
Lets hope that their source has his facts straight this time.

Ok, now this is getting ridiculous. I have always been a fan of Dell for their gaming notebooks but they still don't have a direct x 10. It is not acceptable!!!
I have been waiting all summer to replace my XPS 170. Maybe they are waiting for the nvidia 8800M to launch, I am not sure but it's getting too long and I am not going to wait much longer before I renew my pc.
Now to the comment on the new notebook, it does not look very nice like most Dell's but it's probably far ahead of the competition in terms of performance as all the XPS notebooks have always been.
Hope they are not going to launch their new pc after the new year...
