While
Philips didn't have a working model of its new
Power4Life modular energy system (including Power2Go and Power2Charge), we did come across this base unit, wall units, and adapters splayed lovingly on a pedestal somewhere deep within the plush company booth. It's not much to see, but supposedly (i.e., according to Philips' press releases) these things are going to change our lives. Take a look at the brief gallery for a taste of things to come.

Sounds like a good idea in theory but I see a lot of little plug adapters that most normal people will lose at one point or another (and then they'll be happy that they kept the original power adapters). Alternately, they can buy as many power adapters as they have devices and set the appropriate plug adapters once for all but then what's the point? Look like the same mess, only more elegant... We need more information!

i tend to feel that adapters make life more difficult, not easier. this reminds me of this atrocious little adapter i had for my sega gamegear.

Unless they start branching out and powering things larger than cell phones, I don't see how this is revolutionary. I have a wall and car charger (both smaller than this unit) that power usb ports with a usb cord and adapters that are identical to the ones shown with this unit. You can get these at any big box retailer or electronics store for twenty bucks. The rest of the Power4Life set, who knows. Haven't seen it. Is this revolutionary? I think not.
Mini-rant *warning*
We wouldn't have so many problems if companies would just start realizing that usb is easily available to both manufacturers and suppliers as a charging source. Even those who don't have a computer handy can buy usb car and wall chargers. Stop it with this proprietary mess! We want standards!!
