The fun never ends: another Dell up in flames
Every time we think we've had our fill of these, somebody goes and one-ups the competition with a Dell-fueled inferno of doom. Apparently this one is coming at us from Shanghai, and while we're not sure what anyone is saying on the forum to which these pictures are posted, we're guessing a chorus of "sucks to be you!" and "recalled for a reason" is a solid guess. Check after the break for a couple more pictures, including the stark beauty of the aftermath.

They will never learn will they?
Who, the Chinese? :P
goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo-nads
he was left handed, he deserved it!
wouldn't that suck if it happened on a plane? you would be beaten to death with those stiff little pillows because people would assume you are a terrorist!
Who the righthanded terrorists?
I'd be more concerned about having a flaming piece of melting plastic sitting on my lap...
Ah the modern world... Where, when faced with a highly dangerous fire based situation, people will run for a camera instead of an extinguisher.
And apparently...sand?
Sand is often used as a fire extinguisher! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_sand_bucket)
Ha, I thought they would have at least grabbed the coffee first before the camera! I see they did so after it was extinguished. It's missing in the last photo.
That stuff is way too fine to be sand (it even clings to the glass on the CRT) - my guess would be a powder fire extinguisher. This is also suggested by the fact that _everything_ nearby is coated in the stuff, and you'd have to be damn clumsy to spill that much sand around if you were just dumping a bucket of it on a burning laptop...
In America.. First and foremost you must get solid evidence for your lawsuit. THEN and only then should you think about handling the highly dangerous fire based situation.
Didnt you get the memo?
Personally at sight of flames that size i would have thought about running for marshmellows and graham crackers... not my camera... could have been a company marshmellow roast. This guy is such a party pooper.
Could that be chemicals from the battery? Just a thought. Any experts?
Working way to hard!
That is crazy but did those flames even come from where the battery was?
Isn't the battery in the back? That doesn't look right....
Yes it is I am looking at a D600 right now and thats exactly where the battery is.
D610 is bottom right as well.
...Moves Laptop away from Nuts.
Latitude: D410, D500, D505, D510, D520, D600, D610, D620, D800, D810 are affected, Check-yo'self!
This laptop looks exactly like the Dell Precision M60 I am having, with the battery at the front (where the fire comes out in these pictures). When the big recall was issued by Dell, I checked the serial number but my laptop battery wasn't affected. Maybe this fellow's neither.
Poor people, he lost his laptopt and his lunch! Gosh DELL, it doesn't stop making bad laptops, it also ruins your lunch.
hah @ the pomegranite
No kidding! Who eats a POMEGRANATE at work? That's a disaster waiting to happen.
poof
In the first pictures, there's a notebook with paper right beside the fire. Dummy should have moved that, then pick up the camera, then use the fire extinguisher.
Will this be counted as one of the "Dell Scoops" you promised for this week? Cause this product doesn't impress me. Not one bit.
poof
Dells suck
Get A Mac!
Yes get a Mac!

party!
It makes me wonder if dell stole this feature from the Apple
WOW...it's like Sony's batteries all over again.
Dell batteries ARE Sony batteries.
Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!!!
-> Goodness gracious, great Dells of fire!!!
Be thankful he didn't call 911...and the fire department and an ambulance and a HAZMAT team...
trainer-Laptop!! Fireball
trainer- Not, NOT ON YOU!!!
Actually, I think his Dell was trying to evolve into a CharizarDell. He stopped the evolution from occuring. :P
What a rip off! Everyone knows Apple invented the touch-sensitive exploding interface.
Engadget for life baby
Not sand. It looks like residue from a dry chemical extinguisher (ABC) - exactly the right kind for a fire of this kind. Water would be a shock hazard and probably spread any battery acid that was leaking.
Nice Dell!
Dell laptops: Training the firemen of today!
what an awkward way to use a laptop.
no doubt Dell/Sony will blame that for the fire.
This is not funny. I own a dell. Now if this happened to a mac, it would be freakin hysterical!!
See above comment about it happening to a mac.
Wow!
I'm thinking Sony should exit the battery market.
Had time to grab the camera while it was burning but not enough time to put it out? Watch out for exploding Dells!
