Well, what do you
know. Turns out the
iPod touch is a reality after all. While we initially assumed that Mr. Jobs wouldn't be so kind as to bless us all with
two new
full-fledged iPods in a single day, we're elated that he had other ideas. The new flagship
iPod has "the same size screen as the
iPhone, but it's even thinner" (eight-millimeters, for those taking notes), and it also touts the "same multi-touch interface" found on the firm's handset. Additionally, it boasts a 3.5-inch widescreen display, the ability to "flick through your photos," and you even get the "slide to unlock" feature, too. And yes, this thing actually has WiFi. Of note, the built-in wireless antenna isn't exactly attractive, but if it means that we can surf the web (YouTube included) and
buy tunes on our iPod, we suppose it may be an acceptable flaw. As for battery life, the touch is said to last 22-hours when playing back audio and 5-hours when watching video, but only time will tell how draining web surfing will be. The iPod touch will be arriving in 8GB and 16GB flavors and will be priced at $299 and $399, respectively, when they ship "
worldwide in a few weeks."
Is it free to access Safari, and youtube, and stuff, or does it cost you? Cuzz if it costs you i dont think its worth it. And also do you have to have a mac to download songs from itunes or can you have Windows?
Thank g-d.We pratically have an iPhone without the annoying bill.I was going to get the Sony Mylo for the holidays. But this is much better.
I just bought a 16gb one. i am really looking forward to getting it (i ordered it directly) i really wanted an iphone but live in Canada and apple hates us. Anyways i am a bit steamed that apple is charging us $50 more than the people in the USA even though our dollar is near the same but it should be a good media player even if the flash memory isnt very large.
To everyone who says something like, "Just get and iPhone, it's the same thing with more features."
Let's say we live in Vermont, we would really like to get an mp3 player with all this cool stuff, like safari, youtube, etc. We think, "the iPhone would be great!" but then you realize, "AT&T doesn't offer service here." Then you visit the the apple website and say, "Sweet Jesus! I can get what I wanted without a totally useless phone attached, yay!"
Enjoy it for what it is, don't hate it for what it's not.
Great design and screen size. Now where is the memory. I have to be thrown in the pot of stewers that agrees that if this had a decent memory I would have gotten one today...(fer sure baby-nuts)
ok people an Ipod is a damn mp3 player. maybe the use of a bluetooth wireless stereo would be nice but they dont have so get over it. the instant messaging thing is pissin me off too, if you can afford ipod touch then im sure you have a computer of some sort ,USE THAT IM, considering that it is a MP3 PLAYER with internet access, and movie capability and all that stuff, this is a pretty good product for not that bad a price.
last thing for everyone who is interested in skype, dont count on it. this isnt a ugly SONY MYLO. besides you would probably pay fpr extra service on that too, and people who want more memory on it screw em. you dont get that many MP3 PLAYERS that get internet access
What colours are there?
What colour does it come in? because im getting one
:D
Okay, here's the thing:
I have an 80gb iPod. I also have a phone and a wifi Palm. I don't want the iPhone till they work out the battery/texting issues, and AT&T works out their billing problems. When the iPod Touch was announced, I figured that I could at least combine a minimal daily-use iPod with a Palm replacement (Palm Desktop for Mac hasn't been updated since 2004). So...
I called Apple. I asked point-blank: does the iPod Touch allow you to enter calendar and contact info DIRECTLY onto it? The answer: YES. absolutely. You enter the calendar and address book info on the on-screen keyboard.
So I bought it, and it DOES NOT allow calendar editing at all. Only the address book. Which makes no sense. There also is no notepad so I can enter calendar info temporarily till I get back to my Mac.
It is not a question of 'duh, it's an ipod, and it acts like an ipod, what did you expect?' It's the fact that I asked Apple if it performs these two functions before the $400 purchase, and they said it did, and now I have to face the issue of arguing why I shouldn't have to pay a restocking fee to the store to return it.
False advertising, pure and simple. And being an Apple user since 1988, it pains me to say so.
following on from this story this is pretty cool too - http://tinyurl.com/24vd87
OMG i can't wait for the ipod touch, i admit it should have been 160gigz intead of 16gigz but come on other than that itz great.. so all you haters out there quit hatin coz the iPod touch rokz even though i'm not into apple that much i think itz awesom and i'm gonna get on...
If only the darn lazy workers at apple used there headz everyone would of loved it and they would of have got a lot more costumers
p.s are you all americans
i'm aussie (australian) btw
peace out

some one in my school just got the ipod touch and 2 days later it broke tell me that isn't a peace of bull shit for $400 fucking dollors.
i don't think that the touch is made with excessive durability in mind. too many things could have made it break.
i hear the same thing all the time when it comes to cellphones (worked for Rogers Wireless up in canada) and when they get back to the warehouse after the warranty replacement is sent through, almost all the wear and breaking is from excessively hard use.
if i were to get one i would want to protect my investment by getting something like a belt-holster or a hard case. i suggest that if you get one, and you know you'll be hard on it, it might be worth looking into something like that (a $20 case vs. having a $400 paperweight?)
I won't 'touch' one until it gets stereo A2DP bluetooth... i have a great set (motorola S9) and i do not want to downgrade to something that has worse fidelity than this (anyone out there looking for a good bluetooth stereo headphone set? be sure to check it out.)
but yeah. no bluetooth, no touch-ey. (space i can deal with since my entire library would fit on the 8gb one.)
WOOOO WOOOOOO......okay, the ipod touch does not have speakers, does not have a mic, and also, since apple did not need to put a chip set in, the touch uses 2,not 1, 2 NAND Flash slots, the 16 gb is really 2 8gbs together, so when 16 or even 32 comes out, they put 2 in and have 32 and 64, but the problem is the price of flash, flash is going to drop like crazy, samsung has started a production line to drop prices, soooo, touch may be to 160gb in a few years, my guess is 1 year....but thats me. There were a lot of things apple could have done, like a mic, for recordings, speakers, so u don't need buds, iphone apps, the thing is, if you wanted a phone, then buy the dam iphone, but if you dont want to deal with AT&T, then get a touch, same price, but with no phone, apple screwed themselves pretty bad......amazing Jobs brought apple up in the computer and music market, but may just be dumb enough to lead it to its demise...........
First and foremost, some of the things you guys want are software request. If you really need an icon to take you to you email account just write a letter to the developers at iPod and they could make you an update. Also, the maximum battery is 24 hours with every thing turned off or down, so how the hell are you supposed to listen to 160 Gigabytes of fucking must or even movies within the 5 hours. Now, before you attack me for saying this stuff, i bought and returned the new 80 GB because it has TOO much space, and guess what I exchanged it for. A Touch iPod. For all the morons who have 10000 songs (and only ever listen to 1/2) there is a feature in iTunes where you can have it copy all your playlists and then shuffle the rest to your iPod and it will do that every time. Oooooooh. Hard!
Hey , i live in sweden and her its $499 for a 8 GB . Can somnone give me a cheaper website ther i can order it from USA or somthing . Its so fucking expensive in cold sweden !
In Canada I work at bestbuy and we sell them for the same price as in the united states only thing is im not sure if we ship to you. they go for 299 and 429(approx) in 8 and 16 GB respectively. sry couldnt help you more.
