Sanyo's
Z2000 isn't the only 1080p
projector ringing up below $4k, and now
Mitsubishi has revealed that its
swank new PJ will be headed stateside soon. The HC6000, of course, touts a beautiful 1,920 x 1,080 native resolution, a 13,000:1 contrast ratio, twin HDMI sockets, 1,000 ANSI lumens, Reon-VX's HQV video processor, 3LCD technology, and a bulb that promises up to 5,000 hours of lamp-life. Mitsu claims that interested buyers can snap one up from US retailers in October for somewhere under $4,000, and it should make itself known tomorrow on the CEDIA floor.

I was gonna ask the same question....if they're fairly cheap I'd probably go ahead an buy this.. only ever had a projector from my dads work, had fun playing UT on that years ago.

I interviewed Mitsubishi-Electric at IFA a couple of days ago, my video is available here: http://techvideoblog.com/ifa/mitsubishi-electric-projectors/
You should check out their $1999 1080p HC4900 projector, which I think does approximately the same as HC5000 and HC6000 but simply doesn't come with the upscaling HQV technology. But as long as you've got a decent upscaler in your DVD player, set-top-box and video games machine, then I don't think it matters! $1999 for a 1080p projector is really impressive.

Wow, if the HC4900 is anywere as good as my 720p HD1000u, i'm buying it before december. Did you have any link to a review of that unit?

It's a nice projector which even does well in situations with some ambient light.
There are some screenshots here of an actual projection setup on an 80" diagonal 16:9 screen: http://www.projectionscreenblog.com/?p=39
