BiTMICRO crams 416GB of SSD into 2.5-inch IDE HDD

Oh sweet, sweet SSD. BiTMICRO clearly shares our love for that speedy, stable and battery-friendly form of storage, and is letting the world know with its new 416GB 2.5-inch SSD drive, which as far as we can tell is the largest amount of flash memory yet to be crammed into that form factor. Dubbed the E-Disk Altima ATA-133, the line starts out at 4GB for the spendthrifts out there, but ramps up to 416GB for some indeterminate and undoubtedly large price. They should be shipping by March of next year.
Damn. If only I had bottomless pockets.

I had bottomless pockets once. Then I sewed them up so my keys wouldn't fall out of the bottom of my pant leg and onto the floor. Before taking this step, I lost several pens and some coins.
Hopefully this brings down the $$$ and they start putting this into camcorders
I'm for that as well, but please, give us an AVI option! Some of us like uncompressed video to edit after we're done
Very very young technology, but it can only get better. I can't wait to replace my laptop hard drive for something of similar size SSD for a "sensible" price!

I'm sorry to say this, but today Apple officially reported that they'll block the function that previously allowed to add more storage to their devices. This came as no surprise to many analytics (read: fanboys) who are still shocked by this week's "add button" saga.

oh dear me, that's a lot of storage for a single drive, even for a standard 3.5. all i can say is wow. how much does everyone think this is going to cost next year?? $2,000 ? $3,000? more? i want one.

a 64gb is $1000, so It'll be way over $3000.

flash, be it normal or ssd is small, more and more companies will be pumping it out, expect 1tb within 3 months
This is amazing news, by the time it goes into production there will be even better capabilities. But just knowing that this is possible means great expectations from cameras, using flash drives in computers instead of hard drives, and for my enjoyment, more storage on flash based mp3 players and phones. Hello 416gb iphone. haha
Oh, for Buckner's ever-full money clip. These things are in the "If you have to ask, you can't afford" price bracket.
Still, a nice RAID array of these, in a quad-quad-core Opteron system with 64GB of RAM and Quad-SLI Quadro Graphics cards should come close to running Vista at a reasonable rate... ;) j/k.

According to iSupply it's currently around $8.75 per gb of flash.

So that would mean this drive would cost $3,587.50 which honestly isn't that incredibly bad. But factor in low production, and maybe some special engineering (plus the fact that if you NEED this you can afford it) it could be anywhere from 5 to 10 grand (complete conjecture).
Weird number. I'm guessing the following:
256 gb ssd + 128 gb ssd + 32 gb ssd = 416 gb ssd

Just a guess, but I think that this is a 416GB (gigabit) drive. Flash chips are commonly measured in GB. 416GB divided by 8 is 52Gb (gigabytes).
@Stetson:
I believe that you've got GB and Gb reversed. I think "B" is bytes and "b" is bits.
But good thought on checking that. Internet providers like to play that game all the time. That would suck if other mediums adopted marketing things in "b"s instead of "B"s.
