Logitech unveils Pure-Fi Elite speaker system for iPod
Hot on the heels of Logitech's Pure-Fi Dream and Anywhere iPod speakers comes the Pure-Fi Elite, a system that reportedly ups the ante by offering up 80-watts of power and looks a hair like the AudioStation of old. Reportedly, the device touts two-way sats, one-inch tweeters, and four-inch woofers to go along with the built-in LCD display, wireless remote, iPod dock, video output, and auxiliary input jack. Details surrounding price and availability don't yet look to be officially available, but word on the street has this sucka landing next month for around $300.[Via MacNN]

$300 will get you a vintage Marantz/Yamaha/Kenwood/Pioneer/etc. receiver off Ebay, some quality speakers made by Paradigm/Klipsch/Insignia (well, one pair - the NS-B2111 - from Insignia is all right)/Definitive/etc. new, and cables with money left over. Oh, and it will sound worlds better.
Who are the people that buy these things? The same people that buy into the Bose marketing bullcrap? I'm not being totally rhetorical here, the fact that products like this sell amazes me.

I think this is for people who want something that look simple and elegantly design instead of the Frankenstein hi-fi you are suggesting or people who have limited space. Bose is over price but their product do look nice and will fit nicely with minimalistic or modern design homes.

I misread the title as "Logitech unveils Pure Evil speaker system for the iPod." Sounds about right.

It is amazing to me that nobody has really come out with a simple, elegant looking iPod dock that doesn't look plasticky, as the Audiostation did, or like a spaceship, like the JBLs.
Next time someone is thinking about coming out with a $200+ iPod stereo, please contact me, and I will provide you with a design for the price of one finished product.

What about a software iPod for people with tablet PC's and touchscreens?
Seems like a good iTunes frontend.
