Surely you remember
Sony's OLED TVs with an astounding 1,000,000:1 contrast? Good, then you'll also recall that Sony promised the 3-fracking-mm thin, 11-incher
this year; a schedule
Samsung publicly doubted. While we wish it was
27- or even
30-inches, it's still a very important step in the wide-spread, commercialization of the technology. So check it Sammy, Sony's on the road touting a December, Japan delivery to anyone who will listen. So the question is: will you?

It's out now. $2499 at select Sony Style retail stores. However, now Sony has said that they do not see a rapid growth in OLED TV production. Well, they're still first.

real nice....
PJE @ Sep 12th 2007 8:27AM
The screen's thin, but unless the stand/electronics can be reduced the overall size reduction is not so impressive.
Image quality is of more interest.
Carbonize @ Sep 12th 2007 8:28AM
The screen may be wafer thin but look at the base unit. Can hardly hang it flush on your wall.
Blackster @ Sep 12th 2007 8:47AM
yeah, sure that tv was designed for wallmountability! doh. somedays i just wonder!!!
Carbonize @ Sep 12th 2007 9:06AM
Funny given that both the posts before and after mine had the exact same thoughts as me. My point is it's only that thin because all the electronics are in the base unit. A more realistic image would be a model with the electronics behind the screen as is standard on most flat panels.
Wwhat @ Sep 12th 2007 10:12AM
I can't say I think putting a TV against the wall is ideal, looks futuristic and is done often with displays now sure, but is it so great?
Besides at 11" it would be silly against the wall, you'd have to walk to the wall and stand near it to watch TV.
Beefthing @ Sep 12th 2007 8:22AM
Holy freak that's thin, I mean I've heard that its thin, but when actually viewing an image, it's unbelievable. No wonder they didn't bother with the 30 incher though, just imagine how easily it would break - or seem like it would?
Xzavier @ Sep 12th 2007 9:05AM
I don't know how easily it suppose to break if you only handle the monitor once... The day you set it up on your desk and then your DONE!
I'll take mine in 30 inches please!
Wwhat @ Sep 12th 2007 10:14AM
It doesn't HAVE to be thin, plus a plate of metal and some lexan should make it bulletproof.
Wwhat @ Sep 12th 2007 8:25AM
Sony might be first but who still deals with sony? nobody with any selfrespect I'd say, so the wait is for samsung then.
What's the resolution of this 11" model anyway? the old link said 1080p but 11" is a bit too small for that I think.
Wwhat @ Sep 12th 2007 9:41AM
HAHA, low ranked, sony fanbois are the new apple fanbois? "Oh please mr hakamucho stick it in my dark place, again"
Then spread exploding batteries, products that fall apart, rootkit in the millions, attack your network and DRM everything and lock everything to propriety formats that cost 3 times as much, oh and kill animals for show, and it's still not enough to make you get a clue then eh.
AlexP @ Sep 12th 2007 10:01AM
We downvoted you because you're an idiot.
Wwhat @ Sep 12th 2007 10:09AM
Oh and I forgot to mention the 30% markup for Europeans.
Tim @ Sep 12th 2007 11:03AM
I'm pretty sure that the low ranking isn't because everyone here is a fanboy, rather because you are trolling like Jay. There was no reason to attack Sony in this thread but you felt the need to go at them anyway. However, rather than just attacking the company, you felt the need to also attack any of their customers.
Jeebus @ Sep 12th 2007 12:12PM
"Oh and I forgot to mention the 30% markup for Europeans."
You only have your socialist politicians to thank for that.
silverblackvoid @ Sep 12th 2007 12:54PM
fuck you
Wwhat @ Sep 12th 2007 2:47PM
Well yes I did say people that continue being sony customers, after all that sony did to show what they are about, have no self-respect, and yes to those people who fit that description and plan to continue supporting sony that might be felt as an insult, but that's up to them, to deal with their choices and yes you might get all sensitive about it and then I become a troll to their world, but the only solution to prevent that is for people to say absolutely nothing that might not be in line with the majority, even if it's true.
And that's not something I can do at all times.
Chrisphillers @ Sep 12th 2007 3:25PM
@Jebus - When you grow a brain and some knowledge maybe then your comments will have any validity.
Wwhat @ Sep 12th 2007 9:36PM
Well since the euro is worth 1.39 times a dollar now (highest compared to the dollar ever, good going on your economy America, the socialist must be in awe) even if you compensate for the different taxes and such the Japs STILL overcharge here plenty most often.
Tiff @ Sep 14th 2007 5:17AM
I'll have you know I work for a company that does their compensation in socialist fashion. I'll tell you what, being that I am as motivated as I am and seeing the lack of motivation in others that socialism is NOT the way to go. It punishes the good workers who are motivated and rewards the bad workers who are fat and lazy. I can guarantee that I'll work almost anybody's ass under the table. The reason the American economy has started to slow is because we are the only country with enough balls to fight a war against terrorism. I don't agree with being in Iraq, but I don't agree with pulling out before we're done either so, yeah, the dollar is going to slip from that.
About the TV: I actually agree with you on people buying Sony products. I think they should demand more id they are going to pay more, but it's their money so if they want a product that has the same features as a product that costs a fair amount less then that is their decision. I can buy something else with the money I saved by not buying a Sony. It's just like Bose or Gibson guitars: You're just paying for the name, not a better product.
Wwhat @ Sep 14th 2007 4:53PM
hmm, ok, but I think you don't quite get socialism, but never mind that mr Cheney.
kingofwale @ Sep 12th 2007 8:30AM
I think the stand is ONLY there to widen the centre of gravity, without it, it will tip over if it moves 1.5 mm to the side. so what? a vibration from walking on the carpet?
I hope you can remove that if you decide to place it on the wall, (keyword is HOPE)
Mark @ Sep 12th 2007 8:51AM
I thought OLEDs were supposed to be taking over phone and handheld displays by now. If they can make an 11" one, why not a 3.5" one? There must be other drawbacks (cost? reliability? what?)
shaliron @ Sep 12th 2007 9:01AM
Well the drawback of OLED screens is that the lifetime of each screen is far less than normal LCDs. Only around 5000 hours, which really limits who'd really want to buy it. But who know's how the tech's developed since those facts were published.

5000 hours = 208 days
WTF are U talking about?
Who the hell would sell a TV that only lasts 208 days? Maybe Microsoft would, just talk to any RROD victim.
klassmaster @ Sep 12th 2007 9:05AM
When will the Flat-Screen Manufacturers' cartel remove the bezel and let us have really large screens at a reasonable price ?
Why don't the US or EU monopoly bodies force them to ?
yukiryu @ Sep 12th 2007 9:00AM
At 11 inches I would think this would be destined for a Viao instead of a Bravia, and it would make one heck of a tablet notebook. The size might also be good as some kind of PMP, but Sony hasnt had much luck in that department. Maybe they can talk with Archos and we can get an 1105 out the door by December?
Febry @ Sep 12th 2007 9:20AM
It has too be said, I would willingly make love to that screen!

That thing is SCREAMING to go into one of those under the kitchen cabinets flip down DVD combo thingys.
I'd buy one of those in a heartbeat. The problem with the existing ones is that the LCD's suck and they're tiny. This REALLY fixes both of those issues.

zargon @ Sep 12th 2007 9:39AM
Too keep it thin and small, I hope these CE are smart and design the inputs in such a way that there is a external box for them with just one small cable connecting it.
Thinking about it now, I wish they did it now. That way we could have our inputs stored away in a cabinet or making it so we don't have to crawl behind a TV.
Crayola @ Sep 12th 2007 9:46AM
This better be either frackin' good, frackin' cheap or frackin' enormous...
Tell me one good reason why anyone would buy this SVGA display over a full HD LCD that will probably be cheaper, brighter, frackin' bigger still (think 103")
Damn Sony, their stocks are tanking all time, with dumpster product like PS3 and Rolly whatever... Come on! Gives us another walking man revolution!
Wwhat @ Sep 12th 2007 9:41PM
Well OLED's have a much higher dynamic range as stated, and they have a wide viewing angle from all sides, and they have a wider colorrange than LCD can achieve, and this is only the fist step, so there's plenty of reason to like OLED over stop-gap technology like LCD always was.
If only we knew the lifetime of OLED displays though.

Go Sony! Go Sony! Being ballzy and bringing new technology onto the market!
FrankTheCrank @ Sep 12th 2007 10:35AM
1,000,000:1 CONTRAST.
That is all you have to say. That's better than any existing technology, including CRT.
If Sony has OLED mastered, then SONY will rule TV's again, like they did in the Trinitron days.
Oh wait, I see it now, OLED=Trinitron2. Nice.
Jay @ Sep 12th 2007 10:52AM
$ony Sucks!
I'd buy a Sammy anyday!
ReflectiaX @ Sep 12th 2007 11:38AM
Are you a samsung fanboy? I don't buy their product because it's a Korean company.
Andir3.0 @ Sep 12th 2007 10:57PM
I don't buy their products cause I had a samsumg cell phone that locked up on me constantly, and for no reason whatsoever.
Jay @ Sep 14th 2007 5:52PM
I'm not a Samsung fanboy. Granted Samsung does make crappy products which have poor quality control but that's mostly for lower priced stuff.
$ony has very poor quality control! It's not the $ony of old whose products would last for 5 years+.
Even $ony's highend products crap out quickly & they are always over-hyped & over-priced.
So I'm a $ony hater & not a Samsung fanboy. Above All I want is the best bang for my buck so if $ony comes out with a good product with a good price vs. the competition I would buy it.
Thank You.
