Southwest's Wii send-up brings back old times
It might be a bit late to the party, but we still can't fault Southwest for the latest in its long line of "wanna get away?" advertisements, if only for the fact that it brings us back to those glorious days of yesteryear, filled with rampant Wii injuries, strap breakage and television demolition. Ah, those carefree times. Video is after the break.

Brian @ Sep 19th 2007 4:44PM
My coworker's son did this with an XBOX 360 controller not even a week after we bought his plasma screen... ouch!
Jesse S @ Sep 19th 2007 6:12PM
Why did you buy your coworker's son a plasma TV?
Brian @ Sep 19th 2007 7:22PM
Should have been "he" not "we". I'm nice. But not that nice.
Deputy Doffoos @ Sep 20th 2007 4:39AM
I smell gay romance
iczer2 @ Sep 20th 2007 8:49AM
"I smell gay romance"
Funny, I smell stupidity.
Macinjosh @ Sep 19th 2007 4:44PM
Looks more like PS3's "motion" controller.
ferrerrett @ Sep 19th 2007 7:14PM
Looks more like a 360 pad with the chunky battery pack on the back...
Jesse S @ Sep 19th 2007 6:13PM
You do know the PS3 controller and the Wiimote both use the same accelerometer, right?
Joe @ Sep 19th 2007 4:50PM
May be a little late, but you gotta love the guys focus and excitement when he launches the controller at the TV.
ketel1 @ Sep 19th 2007 4:52PM
lol that was awesome!! wtg Southwest!
Javi0084 @ Sep 19th 2007 5:23PM
Was that a strike or a ball?
Oh wait, disqualification.
yacoub @ Sep 19th 2007 5:39PM
Southwest is my first choice for domestic travel.
Rick @ Sep 19th 2007 10:23PM
Southwestis is one of my last choices for domestic travel. The wanna get away slogan does not infer getting away to your intended destination, rather stuck at some airport waiting to get to your destination. Add the fact that they won't let bimbos who dress slutty ride and this airline just ain't no fun. They are the amtrack or greyhound of the skies.
Ben @ Sep 20th 2007 7:49PM
Greyhound of the sky is a little kind - I wouldn't set foot on another Southwest flight if my life depended on it. Between the creaky old 747s and the flight-school-dropout caliber of our pilots, I was unimpressed.
Dave @ Sep 19th 2007 6:10PM
those are n64 controllers right?
Paul Miller @ Sep 19th 2007 7:25PM
Yeah, N64 is my guess.
modenadude @ Sep 19th 2007 10:27PM
My question is why it says it's a PS3 ad spoof at GameBrink. I thought right away Wii, cos of N64 controllers. I almost forgot that PS3 copied the controllers from Wii.
CJ @ Sep 19th 2007 6:16PM
Southwest should have had scantily clad women in this commercial, oh wait nevermind.
Kade Miller @ Sep 19th 2007 6:17PM
That's one of the things I fear with my Wii and having guests over. One of my mates managed to just miss my Hitachi plasma by centimeters when he threw the Wii controller. Where was his dodgy wrist strap?
DJ @ Sep 20th 2007 3:21AM
Since it's your equipment, you gotta enforce everyone to be "strapped." :)
Will N. @ Sep 19th 2007 7:02PM
That's a pretty lousy mounting job for the TV to just fall after that. I'd not say anything about the remote and have the installation company replace the TV if this were a real scenario.
nic @ Sep 19th 2007 7:16PM
Its an ad!
Will N. @ Sep 19th 2007 7:22PM
Hence the "..if this were a real scenario." at the end.
SimbaDogg @ Sep 19th 2007 8:26PM
hell yes those are n6 controllers...did you guys ever play bond? plus the red totally throws it away
Jamie @ Sep 19th 2007 10:21PM
I don't care how old the joke is. That's funny.
Carrie @ Sep 19th 2007 11:58PM
Hahaha. The game says "Strike three! You're out!" after he throws it. And those are definitely Playstation controllers.
Brian @ Sep 20th 2007 10:40AM
I love how the site credits this as a mockery of the playstation 3. It's quite obviously the Wii... if they wanted to mock the control of the ps3, he'd have thrown the ball boomerang, and it would have come back to him.
The PS3 isn't famous enough to be mocked on television commercials...
