I find it repulsive that it was necessary to make note that this "Apple cloning machine" is Chinese. What does a companies nationality have to do with their business practice. It is a disgusting remark and should have no place on a "credible" blog. Also, I hope you take issue with every other company, not Chinese, who underpays Chinese people to build their products for you, the western consumer. I am not Chinese, but I honestly find your predicating your disgust with an "Apple cloning machine" with a damning label of Chinese shameful and hypocritical. I hope you, or your employer Engadget, thus never report on another product made by Chinese ever again for your own financial benefit.

You're kidding right? If you're not aware of the Chinese practice of "guochanhua" then you're either not paying attention or you choose to be unaware. If you are so pissed off at the Chinese and their ripoff of other products, I advise you to remove everything that is made in CHINA from your home.
Please use a little comment sense and stop being bias and racist. You don't see people saying when Apple rip off another product and use the word the "Americans" is ripping us off.

The specs of that thing sound promising. If it works fine and is not too expensive, I'd rather buy it with an own gui instead of the copied one.
Hey, just for clarification, the dislike of another country that blatantly copies the innovations of your own is nationalism not racism. The Chinese government and the corporations it supports have a long history of stealing ideas from around the globe and then making them cheaper with their quasi-slave labor. Shame on all of you for defending their practices and supporting them by purchasing their products. The Chinese economy is built on theft and exploitation, end of story. You really can't argue with that. If you can, you're missing the point and/or under informed. Meizu is just another example of this, and yet another reason for the WTO to expel China from the organization.
Need I mention that those of you who so casually bring the race argument into this are inherently short sighted? China is the PRIMARY source of the counterfeiting problem. The vast majority of fake goods are produced in China. As I said before, they shamelessly steal the designs from other countries so they don't have to pay anyone to do development (at least any significant development as in more than a few weeks worth) or market research. Then they use their own people to undercut foreign companies by paying them pennies on the dollar. How can anybody who opposes that be called a racist? If anything I would say that being opposed to the Chinese government (keyword hear kids) is something one who truly feels for the Chinese people would do. There is plenty of data and there are plenty of studies willing to back all this up. It has nothing to do with the Chinese people themselves. You need to grow up and realize that when a country's NAME is mentioned (wow who knew that Chinese and China refer to a country as well as just the people) it does not automatically have anything to do with race, its their god damn government/policies. Get it through your thick skulls.
You clearly have no concept of Asian mentality. The Chinese, Koreans, and Japanese have been fighting each other for years. Consequently, each group thinks of themselves has wholely and completely distinct.
Just try walking up to a Chinese person and telling them that they are the same as the Japanese or walking up to a Japanese person and telling them that they are the same as the Chinese.
The Japanese and Chinese got upset just because Chinese actresses were used to portray Japanese geishas in the movie Memoirs of a Geisha. That was an insult.
So referring to the Chinese as stupid is referring to all Chinese but not Japanese as stupid.
Besides, if you read the comments in this section, you would see that most of the racists around here are talking about the Chinese people.
What else is meant when they say that the Chinese are dumb for not inventing anything new in the past few decades? Is it the government or the people who are the innovators? It's the people. Therefore, they are saying that the Chinese people as a whole are stupid. Period.

I like the USA a lot. I am an AmericanoPhile. However the insight this gives, further redefines why tech only people/geeks will die out from the west as those mono-thought jobs get done in the east at much more realistic wages for what is essential glorified brick laying. The reason these people hate China, is that they are losing work because, as evidenced in posts here and editorials, they lack the critical analysis skills used by those professions that won't be leaving the west any time soon. Business Analysts, Finance Managers, Construction Engineers, Policy writers, mass production managers, R&D, Traditional Computer Science, etc......
Quite transparent really. Ignorance or fear. One of the two. Certainly ain't a case of Pride and Prejudice.
Who cares. Apple's phone isn't available where I live. If the M8 comes out first, I'll buy it.

The Chinese are more entrepreneurial and business minded than Apple. It is Apple and every other company out there who is at fault. It got so bad that companies like Samsung and Dodge now release their products almost straight away in China.
For the rest of your code writing dorks out there, get a life and learn how to conduct critical analysis. Or one day you will still fail to get it and then will bitch that "All the jobs are in China and India..." As a point of contention, all the great inventions on the 20th century were British. Jet Engine, car, computer, phone, light bulb, train, watch, clock, gravity ;-), Rugby, Soccer, Golf, Tennis, economics, world trade, English Language.... and many more. So while the USA is a great monetizer and business environment, it is hardly the "innovation" capital that some of you make it out to be.
