Acer recently updated its notebook line, pushing out the Aspire 7720G and the 2920, and the Ferrari
1100. The top-end 7720G is a $3,000 desktop replacement with a 17-inch screen, ATI Mobility Radeon HD2300 graphics card, and running a 2.2GHz Santa Rosa chip. The Aspire 2920 is a 12.1-inch model, featuring Core 2 Duo CPUs, and Intel GMA X310 graphics -- yuck. Finally, there's the Ferrari 1100, featuring another 12.1-inch screen, a 2.3GHz Turion 64 X2 TL-66 processor, LED backlighting, and the usual Ferrari styling.

Can someone who can read german please confirm that the 12.1" one is going to have the gemstone design?
xSplice @ Sep 22nd 2007 4:15PM
Which one? The 2920 will have a gemstone design, the 1100
will not. Hope this helps.

The laptop in the picture looks fat and dated, I hope that's not the 'Ferrari styling'. The old Ferrari's were nice looking but that looks like something from the $100 Laptop Project.

I remember when they first unveiled the first Ferrari, it was GORGEOUS. I must have salivated over it on NewEgg a thousand times, however, this one looks like the fat ass cousin of the Toshiba budget line of laptops. I'm sad :(

Cripes - can that BE any thicker???
JeffDM @ Sep 22nd 2007 7:37PM
It's hard to say how thick they are. These sites are really hot on telling us the specs, except for the overall dimensions. I think that's surprising for mobile devices, because size is an important consideration for a lot of people.

How is a HD2300 top end?
kevinm @ Sep 22nd 2007 9:54PM
True true, this graphics solution isn't what i call Ferrari fast, more like ford. The picture is not the Ferrari version at all, no logo or red colours.
shawn.zenz @ Sep 22nd 2007 10:40PM
this is the gemstone... ugly, but the 15.4" version released a while ago is aggressively priced.
HD-DVD and 8600GT for $1400 on NCIX.com

Fantastic job on press releases Acer - the Ferrari one doesn't have a picture, the 17" one doesn't say what the screen resolution is...
The Ferrari line is down the toiled anyway until that time when AMD can compete with Intel again in the mobile space. Top end running on the much worse CPU, doesn't really make sense...
Fara @ Sep 22nd 2007 10:36PM
$3000 for a Acer? With a HD2300? puh-lease.
Vincent @ Sep 23rd 2007 6:53AM
The name 'Ferrari' at least add $100 to the value. I'm still not attracted this laptop.
Matteo @ Sep 23rd 2007 12:05PM
Now Dell just has to release a McLaren Laptop copying the exact same features...
Just as it happened with real F1 cars..
(Sorry, but I had to write it..).
