Asus intros U1E ultra-portable laptop
We just caught sight of three new Asus laptops, but it looks like that's not all the company has up its sleeve, with its ultra-portable U1E model now also making its first appearance. This one boasts an even smaller form factor than the company's just-announced 12.1-inch, 3.3 pound U6S laptop, in this case shrinking things down to an 11.1-inch WXGA display and a mere 2.2 pound carrying weight (albeit with only a 3 cell battery). Otherwise, you'll get an Intel Core Duo ULV7500 processor, up to 2GB of RAM, a 100GB hard drive, and built-in WiFi and Bluetooth, with an external DVD burner thrown in for good measure. A nine cell battery is also available for those that actually want to get some work done, with it apparently promising upwards of six hours of running time. Look for this one to be available next month, in Italy at least, for €1,999 (or $2,844).

Nice very nice, I want one.
But how about getting the $300 Eee laptop out in the stores like you have promised us. I want that one even more.

God, how I love those machine translated pages:

I want to know what kind of battery life this thing gets before i jump on the boat, the battery in my HP weighs atleast 2lbs, it's got 2GiB RAM and a nice dual core processor, I opted for the 9 cell and i only get 1 1/2 hour battery life.
If this thing gets any less than an hour life it's garbage as far as i'm concerned.

i'd say youre battery is broken then ;)

This compares favorably to the Sony Viao TX series which is a great maching except is preloaded with a ton of sh_tware.
Up to 11 hour battery life and has the built in DVD burner:

Nice slogan Asus...(?)
Someone get me when the EEE is available. I'll be in the bathroom throwing up.

Do people really buy $3000 laptops in any real numbers?
Ken Wind @ Sep 28th 2007 3:49PM
It can actually be more porfitable for manufacturers. If two people buy a $3000 notebook, then it would take six people buying a $1000 notebook to reach the same amount. The profit margin is probably a lot higher on more expensive models too.

Someone from Asus USA or any other English speaking office Asus owns, really needs to talk to them about the ridiculous "Heart Touching" slogan. I can understand that being on a medical piece of electronics, but on everything they make???
Shibathedog @ Sep 28th 2007 2:58PM
Yeah haha, I'm glad my PC is "Rock Solid" But the second "Heart Touching" part...ummm
I always enjoy watching the instructional DVDs and stuff that come with their products (Their sub-company ASRock has some pretty goofy stuff too)

In case anybody is interested this is just a model update. The previous model is the U1F, and it looks exactly the same.
