Canon's EOS 7D gets its very own UPC?
While we'd definitely recommend taking this with a hearty throw of salt, Canon's not-yet-real EOS 7D apparently has a universal product code ready and waiting for its elusive launch date. 'Course, this could be nothing more than an intriguing false alarm, but it's not like we haven't seen Canon cameras eventually materialize after seeing faint footprints in the sand to start. So, there you have it, fuel for the seemingly endless Canon DSLR rumor fire -- speculate away in comments.

SWEET!!! Now the 5D's will go down in price. Thank god.
Well it's about time for the 5D to be replaced. More good news for both Canon and Nikon fans.
5D -> 7D? Odd numbers then? In any-case maybe i can actually dream of one day owning a 5D now...
or i could just buy more nice lenses for my puny 350D
No credibility in that piece of information - here's why :> http://www.pbase.com/dlcmh/canon_eos_7d
Certainly possible, but Canon traditionally launches new products in September and March. We are probably in for a bit of a wait.
But the 5D is now the oldest camera in Canon's DSLR lineup, so it makes sense that it would get a face lift for March. Speed was the only thing really holding me back from the 5D. I might have to upgrade if it's replaced with something faster...
Canon's numbering system for the various tiers of their EOS cameras have always followed that lower numbers mean a better quality camera which is more professional. This either means that Canon is wanting to introduce yet another tier between the 5D and 40D (which is unlikely since there is hardly any room there), or that this is fake, or perhaps Canon is following in the footsteps of Apple with the iPhone.....
Let me explain. As a photographer I know many people who have been eagerly awaiting the release of an update to the 5D. Many sites and people have called this the 7D. Perhaps Canon is just playing to them, like Apple did in naming the iPhone, because everybody was already calling it that anyway. Personally I figured that the update would be the 5D mk II, but perhaps that designation can only be applied to the top professional 1D series cameras. Canon could implement the increasing numbering system of the double digit and triple digit lines, like the 20, 30, and 40d, or the 300, 350, and 400d, by just jumping up a couple digits, while staying in single digits, while keeping their top PRO line at 1D.
I also went to that site and sent in a request for that entry to be deleted, asking for them to validate it with Canon because it was likely to be fake. Never used that site before, but it said they would review the request. I guess if it stays then it's for real?
I know much of this is speculation, but as I am really needing to update my camera soon (reaching end of shutter life), I live and die by these kind of rumors!!
Very keen to see the specs on this if it is real... (Sitting around waiting for announcment...)
