Verizon isn't kidding around this fall, with four new fashionable phones, a couple of which might divert a few iPhone dollars from archrival AT&T. It's those exact four that Engadget Mobile
got the scoop on last weekend, the Juke, Pearl, Venus and Voyager. A few of the details have changed, but the basic gist is the same. The Samsung Juke is the first "flick" phone to hit the States, and arrives with 2GB of built-in storage, A2DP (which shows up in all these phones) and a VGA camera, and comes in blue, red or teal. Verizon's BlackBerry Pearl is the first Pearl to get EV-DO and a 3.5mm minijack, and also adds Verizon's VZ Navigator service, which is standard across these phones. The Venus slider sports an interesting dual screen setup, with the bottom providing contextual touch controls and the top one acting like all normal-like. Venus, with black or pink color options, is the real fashionphone of the group, and rocks a boring 2 megapixel sensor, but there's a microSD slot for up to 8GB of expansion. Finally, the Voyager (pictured) does it all, with a full screen touchscreen on the outside, and a second screen on the clamshell interior, facing a gargantuan QWERTY keyboard.
V CAST Mobile TV makes an appearance, as does a microSD slot and 2 megapixel camera. All of these phones are supposed to be out by Thanksgiving, but no word on price or exact dates -- though the Juke and Pearl are hitting first, to be followed by the Venus and then the Voyager.
Your buddy over at BGR has the release dates for all the phones

It seems like there are going to be pre-orders for them too.
This is ridiculous ... another lame rip off of the iPhone.
Is this came from China, you'd be making fun of it in the title already.
I really hate this uncreativity. And look how poorly it's done.
Pfff ...
"Is this came from china"... you mean like most of apples products?
anyway... so a full touch screen makes it an iphone ripoff? So I guess that makes tablet PCs iphone ripoffs too?
hrm... uncreativity? you mean an autofocus camera, changeable battery, speakers (stereo.. that are actually GOOD speakers), being able to expand the memory (8 gigs per card max? LOL not being stuck with 8gigs FIXED memory is awesome)... c'mon, please try to hide your shiny, white, apple-fan-boyism.
It's not always about the specs, and in this case, it's seems from the review that the interface doesn't come close to the iPhone's, but thanks for showing YOUR anti-Apple-ness....
The UI reminds me of the Treo 680.
Which came out before the Iphone was even announced.
Plus touchscreen phones exists before Apple, even those by LG.
@prokana
More hardware doesn't make a device better.
A you really that easy sold?
And the interface on the touch screen just looks like a stupid rip off of the iPhone interface. Look at the bottom buttons.
I know that touch screens existed before Apple, ok?
But this is just ridicolous.
A post about a phone that isn't the iPhone? OMG LETS SAY IT COPIES THE IPHONE!!!
About the only thing that resembles the iPhone about this phones the use of icons (which TONS of phones use) and the dark gradient behind the bottom bar.
I own an iPhone and a Mac, but these guys are just rabid fanboys... Come on, people!
Oh, no ... there goes the fanboy dropping again ... look ... I don't even have an iPhone.
But I'm somehow into the design profession ... and it really makes me crazy to see those uninspired, same stuff again, in a style copied from another success story.
Same old cr** ... new case ... kings new clothes.
Here, I did a mock up ... just because this makes me mad:
http://img267.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ripoffmb0.jpg
The interfaces look NOTHING alike! Your mock-up proves NOTHING.
nfoo, have you never seen a Palm device?
Apple didn't invent the icons on a screen interface.
Look ... it doesn't matter ... this thing is just jump on the train.
Nothing else, nothing special.
Is there anything special about it?
And no hardware specs prayers, please ... because a gaziliion other phones offer the same.
@nfoo:
I agree. I think it's boring that Apple can't come up with anything original. Sony makes a nice keyboard, Oooh, look a nice keyboard says apple, let's copy it! And then they ripoff the Neonode touchscreen phone, even though it took them a few year to steal the idea. And then finally the steal the whole iPhone design from the LG Prada. Zzzzz, come on Apple...
Argot:
you're being really ridiculous now.
Why don't you drop the fanboy bomb on me, again?
Come on ... come on ... do it ... it's so fun ...
Look ... even the Navigator Icon on the LG looks like the Safari Icon ... crossed with the dashboard icon ...
Icons have the same colors.
The My Pictures icon is almost exactly the same as on the iPhone.
It's not only a layout rip-off ... they also did the most stupid thing and stole icons ...
Instead of defending uninspired Devices from the assembly-line of uncreativity, you should boycott those pices of plastic, that have nothing but randomness about them ...
I for one can't stand the news about poorly designed stuff anymore, which get featured just because you call 'em all gadgets.
It's just another phone that's only so-so. I don't understand why you have to fight for it so much?
I'm truly no fanboy ... but some guys here seem to be acting out of stupid anti-Apple-ism ... just comparing it to the iPhone made you jump out ... hm?
Man ...
@TMM. But you sound EXACTLY like an Apple Fanboi. "Oooh, look a few icons on this phone reminds me of the ones on the iPhone, what a total rippoff!".
Would you agree that the iPhone design is a rippoff of the LG Prada? I bet you won't.
So it has icons...just like the iPhone..
AND
ALL Sony Ericsson phones..
Windows 95-Vista..
Palm OS..
What else?
Bull...
LG Prada rip-off ... oh, man ... is there really nothing else you could come up with.
Why do I sound like an Apple fanboy?
Because I think this lame phone is nothing special, has no real concept and is sold through tech specs only?
Maybe you sound like a: everything but Apple fanboy - or Apple hater.
But maybe you're just a nerd, with no idea of design and in the Too fast, too furios target group.
TMM:
the thing that everyone is saying is that because you only compare/criticize a new device to Apple iPhone - not to Windows Vista/XP/98/95, not to the PALM OS, not to any other device that have implemented icons as menu items.
Granted, there are similarities, but, consider something for me:
- How would you depict a navigational applet?
- how would you depict a browser/internet surfing applet?
- .... depict an email applet?
I could go on and on...and I would bet that you have the same idea as 100 other people I would also ask. Does that mean you copied from all those other 100 or that they copied from you?? NO...it's called standardization or uniform depictions. Humans think alike, so, why not associate items similar without having to be called "uncreative" or even boring, etc...
And, guess what... your toaster looks like every other toaster on the market. Did they copy? They do the same thing!!! Who cares?? If it sells, more power to them!
At least somebody that tries to argue ... thank you:
But humans think alike? When exactly did any of the cell phone companies excell in understanding how humans work: mostly all interface are stone age and terrible to use.
And what I also don't get: Why are you all fighting so hard over this?
It is clear that they try to jump on the iPhone band wagon. Period.
Get over it.
Just another phone with nothing special about it.
@ nfoo
Cry me a river. Stop with the "But I'm somehow into the design profession" bullshit. If you are in the profession, you should know better that most designers copy one another and change things here and there.
Oi nfoo, the mock up you posted proved nothing. In fact I can easily create a mock up of the Iphone's UI next to a ten year old Palms and five year old Clie devices that sports the same icon based UI.
JON:
Bullshit.
Everything is there ... even the row at the bottom with FOUR function.
You don't see it because you don't wanna.
Do I have to draw you a map?
Every apple fanbody calls every full faced touch phone an iphone rip off, and every UI an iphone rip off. it is BS that you call those icons ripped from the iphone, cuz i could have sworn i have seen them on every other UI ive ever seen. Also, those buttons at the bottom arent new to the iphone. Ive had buttons at the bottom of every phone ive ever owned, just because they picked 4 buttons doesnt mean they ripped it. You sicken me for calling this a rip off.
TMM your short sighted Apple fanboyism is getting to you isn't it?
That UI where the row of buttons down below has been done before! Maybe not four icons (Treo 680p had five, Clie TH55 had 12), but it has been done. So quit yapping like the ignorant idiot fanboy you are.
http://www.palminfocenter.com/ss.asp?f=treo-680-ub-3-L.jpg
Let's hope they DO copy Apple, but not for the iPhone designs. I sware to God, I'm DONE with walking into a damn phone store and not being able to properly try out a damn phone. It's LAME. They let you SEE it, but... oops... the display is a cardboard insert. Or, here it is... oops, it has not power, but here's a brochure. They need to cut that crap out and let people properly evaluate these things in the store. Meanwhile, Apple's putting out demo videos, and saying, "come down and use one". Hint, hint.
It's like everyone is afraid of the iPhone. One person says something positive about it, and it's up to a million anti-apple anti-fanboy people to prove them wrong. Really, if there was something good about the iPhone would the world crumble? Would the sky fall? If I only read engadget comments I would thing satan gave birth to the iPhone. It's a little creepy how adamant some people get.
First and foremost, the LG Voyager is going to be a GRAND addition to the VZW family. I simply want to say this, the LG Voyager is the cross that crucified Self proclaimed (Jesus phone) aka Apple iPhone. I would personally consider the iPhone the Judas of all phones. The reasoning behind the logic; first the LG Voyager will be the 3rd generation technology from the original LG VX98000 (The V). Also LG already had the touch-screen technology embedded and invested in the LG PRADA, making this there 1st generation on the touch-screen. Then the LG Voyager VX10K will simply use 2nd generation touch-screen and 3rd generation design to its advantage, to kill the iPhone. Second, VZW turn down the Apple’s iPhone because Apple just wanted the tower use and glory. This would have made VZW the middle-man between the customer and service provider relationship. Now to add Cingular was going bankrupt and AT&T stocks were low. Apple takes advantage of two poor merging companies trying to keep the phones ringing in the dark. Lastly, LG learned from Apple’s mistakes and decided to make a phone that people would want and use without the bugs, then topping it with VZW’s slogan to Apple and the world. “CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? GOOD! WE PRESENT TO YOU THE LG VOYAGER! “CAPTAIN OF THE LG VOYAGER”
Hey ... on Daring fireball it says: rip-off.
Well, he must be an idiot, too, right?
http://daringfireball.net/
THATS HUGE!
*rushes to store for pants with long pockets*
I wouldn't go as far as to call it a rip off of the iPhone...but look at their calendar app's icon. It's nearly identical to the iCal icon, which displays July 17 (Verizon's shows July 19).
Personally, it looks far to clunky for me and I'm scared off by Verizon's UI.
The Voyager one hot little number. I wouldn't buy it (allergic to CDMA) but I will definitely enjoy selling it.
V, enV, Voyager....

@palooz ... are YOU KIDDING ME?
You just have to say NO ... no matther what?
Why? Because it's about Apple?

I'm from the UK and I am very excited about picking up an iPhone, however, the only similarity I can see with this mobile phone and the iPhone is the bar at the bottom. Apart from that, it's just another touch-screen device.
OMG, the phone looks so freakin' sweet!
Mobile TV - Check
Being able to create your own ringtones with a program like BitPim - Check
Putting photos back and forward easily - Check
Games that do not require jailbreaking and warranty-voiding - Check
SMS - Check
Send Photos to anybody(number, email address, etc.) - Check
Idk, iphone clone or not, this seems like a pretty sweet phone!
Funny, all the things you mentioned are what Verizon usually disables on their phones (BREW, OBEX, data cables...)
@suntiger
By his post, I have to assume he's never used Verizon or known anyone who has. Verizon disables EVERYTHING. My gf's razr can't even download pictures to the a computer. My 4 year old V300 can do that with a $3 cable I bought on ebay.
Glad to see some fresh competition for the iPhone. This will force Apple to keep on top of the updates and add features to their product.
No it won't.
Definitely an iPhone challenger. It is just freakin histerical to hear Apple fanatics say this is an iPhone rip off. Ugh HELLO, this phone was prob in development since last year i.e. WAY before the iPhone was even being released. Anyway, be interested in seeing how this thing feels, works, etc considering "some" of the specifics/features outshine the iPhone such as EVDO, Verizon's network, stereo bluetooth, mobile TV, voice command, etc. And prob not has expensive either ;)
Go play with it before you knock it completely. Hell I will...
I agree. This looks like a very competitive phone as long as they hit the right price point. Oh, and they better have slipped up and neglected to mention that it has wifi...otherwise I certainly won't be buying this. For a phone of this caliber (and price) it better damn well have wifi.
What happened to the Treo 755p on Verizon?????
Oh, this is a bad idea! In not so distant future LG's V'ger will come back to haunt us, looking for its creator!
Are you guys kidding me?
How many different ways are there to make a calendar icon? They -all- look almost exactly the same, on every phone, ever. Same thing with "my pictures" and so on. The rampant Apple fanboy-ism kills me here.
No WiFI.... so much for not doing everything the iPhone does. Im a buyer when they do WiFi not until.
I never understood the whole, "Oh, its just a rip-off of [product x]!" mentality. In the technology world, rarely does the first of anything new turn out to be the best. Although, to be honest, the Iphone ISN'T anything new. Little, if any of its technology is new, its just another smartphone in a more attractive package. Maybe the Iphone is the rip-off?
Apple fans will always claim their product is the best and rarely have any complaints. Apple haters will always find the faults and brag about how something else is much better.
My opinion, Apple has usually made sleek, attractive products, but I despise some of their "design" decisions, such as no user changeable/upgradeable batteries. They seem to be more concerned about the "cool" factor and less about the end users actual product useability. My last two phones were both LG's and they work wonderfully, so hopefully, LG did as well with the Voyager.
I'll wait for a side by side review of Iphone vs Voyager after the Voyager has been on the market at least 6 months before I make any decisions.
thank you steve..
Sue 'em Apple.
Am I missing something? Where's the new Windows Mobile phone??? AAHHHHH!!! I've been waiting for an update to the freaking 6700 for months!
Ermmm... can this be unlocked to be used on, o I don't know, some other CDMA network besides Verizon? It does say "exclusively thru Verizon". Let's see how strict they are about unlocking this vs. Apple/AT&T are on the iPhone. There'll probably be no media backlash on Verizon for cracking down on that either.
CDMA phones aren't locked, usually CDMA carriers will just block phones from other providers. If you can find a different CDMA carriar that doesn't block phones from other carriers, than you are probably good to go.
I think.
The radio (CDMA receiver) would work but it's Verizon's software interface you may have to write an OS to get it to work on another CDMA network.
-Who cares that the interface resembles the iPhone, is the iPhone available to VZ customers?
-Apple and many other companies have been trying to create a good touch screen phone. The hardest part was making the interface work well with the applications.
Apple just so happened to snatch up the best interface created be another company and now owns the patten.
Without that interface Apple would be in the same boat as every other PDA on the market trying to make the touch screen more user friendly.
is that not the verizon os i'll take one
So the Venus is the Nintendo DS?
Didn't one of the earlier news stories have one of the phones listed as using miniSD rather than microSD?
This is not a ripoff! This is way better than an iPhone. This thing has bluetooth and can do real time GPS with VZ navigator. Touchscreen and a keyboard. Mobile TV that's if you have coverage. Has a memory slot and its 3G. Whats more do you want?
Good job Verizon!
I would love to see the pricing structure on the Voyager. If its a bit thrifty over iphone, I'd try it.
I am and have always been a huge apple fan. I'm also on Verizon's network as well as my whole family, so I was appalled by their exclusive contract with at&t. Steve Jobs and at&t should give a credit towards a new iPhone in the amount of whatever the penalty fee's are for switching over to at&t. Maybe offer this deal until Christmas. I would love an iPhone but since I have to switch carriers to have one, I'll probably go with the Voyager. Everybody rips off everybody in technology and competition is good for the consumer, so I'm happy LG and Verizon stepped up to the plate.
It's amusing how many new phones that come out are iPhone killers or BlackBerry killers. Do you guys really think in the end that there will be just one mobile device out there ?
http://the1opinion.wordpress.com/2007/10/03/new-verizon-phones-lg-voyager-aka-the-iphone-killer/
Who cares who came to market first. The question is which is a better product. Features of every successful cell phone model has been copied. The first to market is not necessarily the best.
Until there is a hands on review, it is very hard to tell. LG makes good phones. Apple makes good products.
I like the keyboard and the looks of the LG better, but until I can play with both - I really don't know which I will buy.
Yes, all of these new phones will include the amazing Verizon OS for FREE! WOW!!!
Lets stop talking about design and start talking about features. I doubt this phone comes close to the iPhone when it comes to design aesthetics (but its not bad either). Now lets talk about features :
- 3G : hands down better than the iPhone EDGE, I won't miss wifi much since 3G is gonna give me decent connectivity everywhere, not just in my home or starbucks
- V Cast Music : OTA downloads, the iTunes wifi stores lets you browse music only over wi-fi, this guy can do it EVERYWHERE there is coverage
- VZ Navigator : Better than the lame Google Maps on the iPhone which is not much good until it tells you where you are, this is hands down a better feature than lame Google Maps.
- Mobile TV & VCast Video : Tell me about it, if you have coverage this is better that any lame video you'll run on your iphone(that would require you to sync with your PC everytime you add new content). This phone will have YouTube too via the V Cast Video options, which i can tell you will run way better on EVDO than EDGE
- QWERTY Keyboard : Guys, this makes it fat but boy, for folks who want to have an SMS/E-mail powerhouse this is a must
- Push E-mail & Calendar Sync: I'm sure it will support Wireless Sync from Verizon which will let you get Over the Air E-mail for all your accounts and calendars, even enterprise if you want to
Now, i think there are some drawbacks too
- This is gonna be definitely bulkier than the iPhone
- Price plans remain to be seen
- Storage will need to be added externally
- Battery Life (unknown)
Overall i think its great !
it does have some cool features... but what is the point of that huge pretty screen on the front if you can only use the QWERTY keyboard with the small-ass internal screen? I'm assuming any time you want to do anything with text (just about anything involving SMS, email, internet) you have to flip to the crappy screen.
I will buy this as soon as it can detect life signs on unexplored planets and its name is changed to tricorder.
Now calm down, everyone who is getting excited/annoyed/ticked off...
As a computer teacher who has heard way too much "he copied me!!" complaints, I'll add what I tell my students: if no one ever copied anyone we'd have one car, and it would be black.
Copying is a compliment. It means the person couldn't think up anything original or liked your idea *so* much they modified it and used it to create something else.
I, personally, liked the iPhone, but would never switch from Verizon. I think this is a great idea, and applaud LG for their creativity. This will give the iPhone-like opportunity to people who won't switch to AT&T.
As mentioned before, maybe this will give Apple the incentive to change their polices or give some competition to improve/update their product!
Maybe I'll get one!
Does this mean that Verizon won't be releasing the HTC Libra/ UTStarcomm 5800? I thought this was slated for October release:
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/09/01/bell-reels-in-htc-5800/
Your a fanboy! No, Your a fanboy! Nuh uh! Yo' mama's fat!
It's a nice phone. Oh my god, I must be a fanboy too! OH NOES!
I believe it was Picasso that said, "A bad artist copies, a good artist steals"
I'm glad there is a viable option for us Verizon people with out having to crawl to AT&T.
There's already a fan site up for the Voyager at http://www.verizonvoyager.org
I wonder if this will outpace the iphone in terms of sales. In my opinion, Verizon is the best cell network but I think this will come down to advertising dollars and effectiveness.
Nice phone. I like the Voyager but I can't stand the Verizon ugly logo.
LEXX:
You really don't know what you are talking about. Not much, at least.
This is so generalized, simplified gibberish ... sorry ...
Gonna quote me Picassos next?
how can u compare the phone to he iPhone if no one has ever held one in their hands and actually used it. anything with a big touch screen is going to look like an iPhone. or a Prada. or a Mogul. etc... wats the point of getting people pissed off if u havent even used the thing and are just building off a picture and only 4 confirmed specs?
I love apple and they usually make good products as well as decisions, but not with the iphone. I bought the thing for my gf as a gift (she had to have it), and the only thing it's done is ruined our relationship or given freedom. I'm not sure what the iphone does more each month, drop in price or drop calls. Perhaps the mac geniuses don't have many friends or they would have told Steve that apple can make the greatest device in the world, but if it needs to rely on att to work, it should be made heavier so it works as a better paperweight.
Apple's trying to build an F1 car for a rally racing course. If that's the type of road you're going to be driving on, build an Evo. Meanwhile, Apple's inspiration on this one is appreciated (they can have the credit). Verizon's network isn't full of potholes, they built nice roads first and finally we're seeing some style to go along.
It's nice that the phone opens too, it's almost like the phone was built for a data network too.
I'm starting to wonder if those icons are actually apple's new OS. Jobs isn't one to keep digging a deeper hole.
If the lg is horrible (they've made nice products so far), than i'll go with the blackberry on a network that works.
BTW, I'm dumping my gf (small loss in the scheme of things), I'll bet Jobs dumps ATT.
Earth, Steve has already paid your cancellation fee when the price of the phone dropped $200. Buy 5 iPhones and that's $1,000 toward any cancellation fees that you have to pay.
Is the pearl using the blackberry software or Verizon UI like the motos?
Blackberry stays blackberry. This pearl is going to be phenomenal. VZNav and a 2.0 megapixel cam- plus all the goodness of being a blackberry.
Revolutionary touch screen? HELLO!!! Verizon's 6700 has had that for how long now? Longer than the IPhone that is for sure! The 6700 is a work horse compared to this thing! I have WIFI and Windows OS..Where is the upgrade for the 6700?? I don't want a Treo!!
RE: VZW vs. AT&T
Last I checked, VZW's data plan was much more $$$ than the similar one you get for the iPhone (which is unlimited + minutes for phone (right?)).
The thought of VZW nickle + dimming me every time i check my mail would be a big turn-off.
Oh, and as a current VZW customer, does anyone really use that v-cast stuff? Other than 12yr olds on the train in the afternoon?
actually...
verizon's pricing for regular, v-cast phones as far as all you can eat data is 15.00 a month...
the blackberry/PDA pricing plans are what you're referring to, which are 10MB/Unlimited, which are 24.99 and 44.99, respectively.
So,
with the 15.00 data for a v-cast phone (which the voyager is), plus the 30.00 a month add-on to your plan for unlimited text, picture, and IM for EVERYONE on the plan,
you're really paying less in the long run on Verizon, if other people are using text too.
That is to say:
Verizon: LG Voyager ($250 on 2 year contract is what the estimated price is, based on the release of the original V (VX9800), and the EnV(VX9900)) + $15.00 a month for unlimited data and v-cast stuff. + $30.00 for unlimited text, picture, and IM for everyone on the plan.
AT&T: iPhone ($400 on 2 year contract) + $20.00 a month for unlimited data + $20.00 for unlimited text.
Now take this with a grain of salt, as all of the pricing that I have speculated for Verizon's Voyager is pure speculation, with the exception of the unlimited text/MMS price.
But i'd say if you have multiple text/MMS users on your account, you're saving money with Verizon, and even if you dont, you're only paying $5.00 more a month for the same plan features you'd get on the AT&T with the iPhone.
it's not as bad as you guys think.
iPhone fanboys, please shut up now. everyone knows that OS X portable is just a polished version of the CLIe UX50 menu style....haha.
plus, the voyager is a clamshell phone with an ACTUAL TACTILE KEYBOARD INSIDE. apple doesn't give you that. voyager has EV-DO, iPhone has EDGE which is 1/10 of the speed. it just happens that icon-driven UIs are great for touchscreen devices, so a lot of manufacturers choose them, it doesnt make the device an iPhone ripoff. i'm not saying iPhone is a bad phone, it isnt, but the voyager does bring some useful (as in things i would actually use, not just things to show off with) features to the table that iPhone doesn't have. and if sprint releases a voyager-esque phone with music multitasking, and (knock on wood)lets me set MP3s as ringers, this phone might just end up in my pocket. and as for thickness, the iPhone is as thin as the SLVR, yeah nice, but i can definitely deal with a slightly bigger phone. my A900 is plenty thin for me, and since the voyager will probably be similar in size to the EnV, i can deal with it. verdict: LG voyager and pantech ocean are (in my opinion) the best keyboard phones out there. score 2 for south korea, but good effort on apple's part.
As an iPhone owner I must admit that looks pretty slick.
the voyager is a "light" version of:
The LG Ku990 called "VIEWTY"
http://www.mobiledia.com/news/62018.html
it's the same with 5.1-MP camera, amazing 120FPS high speed video footage, they want to make it the best cameraphone
on this video you'll see that the touchscreen is almost as fast as the iphone
http://youtube.com/watch?v=AAjQUVwdmag
it's getting in stores on the 15th october in France, gona get one this little bomba youhiiiiiiiiii
"We Were all Dead Before the Ship Even Sank"? Sounds ominous, might not be the best image to aassociate with your new product...
um, i guess i'm a fanboy of anything that kicks something else's ass. i'm writing this on a mac and i'm listening to my ipod and for all you "i-have-a-white-apple-sticker-on-my-bumper-people," this phone rocks the iphone off of the planet. every business person across this world wants qwerty and 3G, they already use treos and blackberries. for them, iphone is useless... it's just a fancy ipod with youtube to them.
oh and for anyone calling this an iphone rip-off, apple ripped off LG already with iphone, i saw a screenshot of this phone almost a year ago, which means it's been in production longer than that. the picture i saw already had icons on it... i know it's hard to understand apple fans, so i'll say it slowly... apple may have actually ripped off LG's icons (gasp... oh my god... not my wonderful apple... they would never do such a thing... they are perfect.)
until i see a price on voyager, i won't be totally sold... but i'm pretty ready to buy this puppy.
peace
LG has traditionally made some of the worst user interfaces ever. Now they try to copy Apple.
LOL.
The iPhone may have some issues with the techies, but they sure got it right for the millions who aren't.
Can't imagine LG coming close.
I'm a proud iPhone owner and I encourage people to try out the Voyager and for more cell phone makers to keep producing these new phones. One, because I want Apple to get more aggressive with their features and quit holding back (third party apps, ichat, movie-recording, HSDPA, etc.)
But to be honest - this whole situation is reminding me of the iPod. The Voyager will be a success for years, but I would be scared if I were LG. I have a feeling the iPhone will ultimately goble more and more market share as Apple gets more aggressive. It just seems like Apple is the only one who knows how to do it right. They did it with the iPod, now they are doing it with cell phones.
Just look at LG's interface and compare it to the iPhone's. Like who needs the label "Shortcut Menu" to understand that it is a shortcut menu?
I just visited verizonwireless.com and these four new phones popped up on the flash intro... then quickly disappeared and were replaced by the old "Get a KRZR and 3 free RAZRs"
Brief slip-up, but they must be dropping very very soon!
I found LG more aggressive with the viewty than Apple is, right now,
I feel that instead of copying the iphone and apple,
wich will probably stay n°1 on the music mobil market, they're aiming a different market high level cameraphone, their chairman anounced a shooter in 2 years as good as a numeric camera
Sony wants to do the same with the K850i

I don't listen to a lot of music, but I make a lot of photos, so I've never been interested in the Iphone
I was in Roma not long ago, with my old w800i, I took 1000 great photos, listen to music in the subway made a few phone calls, and I had only one tool in my pocket, web cafe 1hour internet on a 19' screen 2€ everywhere
iphone= iphone + numeric camera

OK Kids I think its terrific that LG has come out with this, the Iphone looks terrific but never in my wildest dreams would I switch back to AT&T. The service in my area with AT&T is one of the worst. I spend over 4,000 minutes talking on the phone each month and when I was with AT&T I had numerous calls dropped calls a day and it still is like that in the Los Angeles area, long story short I am thrilled that Verizon is coming out with a copy of the Iphone. All the best.
Happy chatting ;)
other than the obvious reasons for disliking the iPone is the fact that it messes with my iTunes
and at the times i heard that ppl were working on unlocking
the iPhone i knew it right away...it was a waste of time and money
why would you unlock a phone if it ends up like a psp? (updating so it becomes unlock able..syke!)
plus not updating the phones limits its features, even thought their limited already...
i like verizons service, but i dislike the UI and other companies are vise versa
TMM, please just stop posting stuff on here. Go ahead and go to the iphone posts and post anything you want but stop posting that you love apple over here.
And why did "Earth"(the guy at the top of the page hold "enter" or "space" for a long time?
check this our from endgadget.
According to iSuppli (no affiliation with Apple, of course), the 4GB iPhone will yield a "49.3 percent profit margin on each unit sold at the $499 retail price," while the 8GB rendition will kick back a 46.9-percent margin. You heard right, they're supposing the $499 mobile only costs Apple $245.83 to produce, while the 8GB flavor demands just $264.85
i work at a parts supply house and adding 50% to the product is unheard of. average is maybe 30%. then add this phone the charges that cingular adds. come on, its a piece of plastic you talk into.
Haha, you guys act like we care that it looks like the iPhone. Guess what? I like the iPhone. I WANT an iPhone. I don't want phone service from Death Star Wireless. Had Cingular, it sucked, no thanks. So until Apple wises up and realizes that releasing a phone exclusively on the crappiest network in North America is a terrible idea, I'ma go with this one.
Children, children. Control yourselves. As an old phart(60), the fact that every car has round wheels doesn't bother me. With bad eyes, big hands, lots of time and yes, money, I could care less about style. Give me a large screen, large qwerty, texting, picture texting, email and decent voice quality, and I'm happy. Think of the millions of boomers that feel the same way. There is a market there and waiting for the Voyager. If its that big and heavy, put wheels on it and I'll still buy it. When the Voyager hits down, I will fire Sprint(with $200 separation pay) and drop my new Winders Mogul 6800 in the creek.
well i was worried but not anymore im getting this phone JUST because its verizon. they do have really great service and its easier for me to decide to stay with a good company that have alright phones then to totally change service providers for a good phone. in my opinion.
Who tha hell cares .. its verizon ..
cingular suks and if u want a iphone your gonna end up payin $90 a month for a little bit of minutes
LG is just trying to do its magic ..
Who cares? It's a cool looking phone and people will buy it because it's different from the iPhone. Can't it just be what it is?
Alright I would have to say that I am neutral on this subject, if I had the money I would buy both the iphone and the Lg Voyager while having two bills to pay every month, but unfortunately for me I dont have that kind of money.... So in my free time (mind you that i am not a graphics designer yet) I created my verison of the verizon Iphone.
Please check it out and tell me what you think @

Why on earth would Verizon (who has the nations fastest best network) need to add such a useless cost center such as wi-fi? Apple had to because the iphones browser is useless without it. evdo is dsl fast. Don't be such a cheap skate; shell out the $15/month for vcast and have faster browsing than the $20 impoent iphone data package.
