Keepin' it real fake, Part LXXXV: not Zune enough
Not content to let the real Zune action steal the day, Chinese manufacturer Huiying is bringing the generic social to you with the HY-658, a $27 flash player that's rocking a 2.4-inch screen, SD memory expansion, AVI, WMA, MP3, and WAV support, and a striking resemblance to a certain brown wonder. Just to keep things even, Huiying ripped a little something from Apple's playbook as well: the players features a non-standard 2.5mm headphone jack, meaning your existing buds won't work with it. Hooray for equal-opportunity KIRFing!

my only problem with Chinese DAP is that they use that stupid AMV (mp4) format which you end up having to find on the internet since their software disks are as worthless as coasters.
Also, I have to wonder what percentage of Chinese made toys and players had LEAD PAINT in them, prior to the scandal.

my only problem with Chinese DAP is that they totally rip off from other companies.

Lead paint on MP3 players?
Is it normal operating procedure to chew on your MP3 player?
WOW, the things one learns on Engadget

They *do* play AVI. Did you even read the article?
And I don't really have any problems with Chinese 'MP4' players (never saw a single damned one that actually *could* play mp4). I bought one myself (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/126065), out of morbid curiosity really, but it's really not bad. Not great, but definitely good value for the money. And for a fraction of what I'd have to pay for the overpriced junk kiddies buy just "because it's an iPod!".
Well ok, the battery and earphones are crap, but whoever actually uses the earphones that come with a player should go jump off a bridge.

Why does every device have to be a copy of another?
What do you want the device to look like? A flower?

considering all of America's products are made in China now at the same factories I don't really see the real deal calling out the copycats.
The only difference between this POS and the Zune is the Zune had higher quality materials.
LIVE BY THE SWORD - DIE BY THE SWORD.
America's capitalist attitudes are allowing China to amass trillions of US dollars and they are gonna end up buying this countries best stocks right out from under us. And when we turn to them and cry they will say: "its Capitalism".

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Welcome, Microsoft, to the elite circle of DAPs worthy of Chinese knockoffs!
Step 2: find yourself a Meizu-equivalent to raise the quality of your knockoffs =)
Standingfast @ Oct 4th 2007 8:37AM
What? No MP4? ^_^
-_- @ Oct 4th 2007 8:47AM
I'll admit, I do find some knock-offs to be lacking in originality, are just crappy remakes, etc.
But I mean, come on, form factors only have one more way to go, and that's more complex (flip phone with rotating screen, anyone?), so of course stuff is going to look similar.

From the site, " The video HY-658 speakers have done quite ordinary, even raised to the maximum volume only in the relatively quiet in the room can be heard, but at the end of noise relatively clear."
I want one.

Funny thing it actually looks better than the Zune.
Austin @ Oct 4th 2007 5:57PM
This doesn't look *that* much like the Zune.
But only $27? Where do I buy one?
BatteryAcid @ Oct 4th 2007 8:32PM
Classy, but I prefer poop brown.
Is there any word on memory?
Looks like a decent deal for $27.
