Microsoft. Continuing to confuse and dupe mothers into thinking they got their child the correct holiday toy. Making kids "disbelievers" one Xbox at a time.
Simply wanted to poke at Microsoft's bid at attracting attention to parents at your local game store to inquire what the hell the xbox arcade is.
Kid wants Xbox. Puts it on holiday list.
Then mom takes list to store. Get Xbox. Hmm. Ill take the cheapest one. Plus, wow it comes with 5 games.
(MSFT) Xbox wants parents to think that this is a great deal, when in fact its a repackaged Core.
The point I am trying to make is that it is confusing and complicated to purchase systems w/ multiple configs.
Especially seeing the sticker on the front that precludes a good deal that you are getting five full titles. Seeing pac-man on the cover will definitely draw questions from the prudent customer, wondering....well why spend 349 when I can get this one for 279 and it comes with 5 games. Then asks clerk to help out. Then customer gets confused or buys it thinking its a good deal, takes it home, and kid is disappointed as they probably wanted a more expensive config / hard-drive.
It would be as if Apple put a sticker on the outside of an iPod promoting Brick Breaker and Parachute. Gotta be a better deal. Gotta get one.
What's confusing about this model? This is actually very attractive and allows people to buy a 360 and not have to buy anything else to make it useful, unlike the previous core system.

I think including /free/ games is really really important thing.
I had a Wii from its European launch and free WiiSports is really what made me to buy it: even if I wouldn't like other games, WiiSport is "good enough" to justify such expensive Xmas gift.
My friend was gifted a bare PSP and spend two weeks before he did managed to get a game he like for it. What is plainly stupid. Bundles cost extra money. Flash games on Net do suck most of the time. Even simple Tetris or Columns or whatever would have made it more palatable. Investing 50€ right out into a game for new/unknown platform is pretty risky.
PS3s I have seen were sold pretty much bare. You can get a bundle with -ZOMG!- BluRay movies, but it's pretty pointless as game console goes. Previous Xboxen pared not much better.
Free games - even mini ones - are must. C'mon - even Wind0ze since dawn of ages has Solitaire preinstalled ;)

While that may be true, there's a chance this could be the difference between kids getting it or not...
