Oppo's Super Five PMP handles formats galore
Oppo's been known to add a hint of style to its PMPs in the past, and it looks like that touch of beauty is still apparent on the Super Five. This unit features a three-inch display, sleek top-mounted controls and support for a smorgasbord of formats including RM, RMVB, FLV, DAT, MPG, MPEG, AVI and 3GP. Furthermore, it'll also play nice with MP3, WAV, WMA, OGG and FLAC files, while the integrated photo viewer supports JPEG, BMP, GIF and PNG. Best of all, a 2GB iteration will run you just CNY899 ($119), but you'll have to make a quick trip overseas to pick one up. ooh, want - if it can be upgraded with SD cards and has a resolution greater than 320x240

All that and no AAC?
Am I missing something?

Awesome PMP but what the f*ck is one going to do with a measly 2GB??? C'mon, PMP makers out there, stop releasing crap with less than 8GB of capacity. MMMkay?

Meh, ill just get a Sandisk Sansa or an Iriver Clix.
Never heard of Oppo, and even though the player looks slick, only 2gb?

I know Oppo makes the best upconverting DVD players. I can't comment on other products from them.

That looks awesome...but 2GB just won't cut it. Neither will 8. What the hell is the problem with a good old harddrive? Why do PMP makers suddenly hate them? If you get decent ones, they'll last a hell of a lot longer than flash memory...which is a LOT longer than the PMP itself will last.

Surprisingly awesome coming from China. Dare I say better than the perennial Meizu? RMVB playback is particularly nice!

THIS is what the ipod touch should look like. xept with a touch screen and more memory.

Damn. I love my Oppo DVD player so much and the fact that Oppo kicks a$$ at supporting the products they make, I want one. It really is too bad the storage is so small.

I played around with one of these today; rock-solid build quality but feels a tad heavy as that's a big chunk o' metal on the backside (Meizu Miniplayer: 55g, Oppo: 76g). The touch-sensitive controls running along the top edge make for an interesting design statement, if not the most practical of solutions. Audio is via Wolfson chip so sound is OK, but nothing extraordinary. Nice screen. The fatal flaw, as most have already expressed, is the 2GB capacity...and no, there's no SD expansion slot. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to pack in a bunch of memory-hogging codecs with that amount of storage, although if they're free I guess what the heck. On the other hand, there's probably a 4GB model in the pipe and that's plenty for China as low-bitrate recordings are de rigeur. It's already being discounted, so you can easily knock at least 10 bucks off that price.
