its actually not a pain in the ass if you're not a tard that goes "OOOOOH UPDATE!" and then runs an update on a hacked product you were warned not to update on.
I jailbroked my 1.1.1 ipod touch, and i won't be updating it again unless i'm prepared to say goodbye to all the cool shit i can do now.
it was the same with my PSP.
If you like your homebrew stuff, simply wait till the hackers have dealt with an update before processing it. Its not that complicated really.
