Weeaboo.

Kind of a worthless product, eh?

Not finding any easy descriptions of fanfare anywhere. Why do I think it's going to turn out to be yet another proprietary DRM stuffed piece of All-ur-bas3-r-bel0ng-2-us peon-ware.

F*@K DRM!
slutsdigme @ Oct 22nd 2007 6:39AM
it's only proprietary if you use the fanfare service...it supports divx(avi), xvid, and mp4 through drag and drop. i really don't see why people here are complaining. i for one, think this will be a great product to have for sharing movies and such with ease of portibility and not having to burn through discs. DO WANT!

I fail to see how this is better than my $50 upconverting DVD player with USB port...
Mark @ Oct 22nd 2007 4:19PM
Yeah seriously. Some of the DVD players can even handle huge USB drives. Also, how is this better than an XBMC.
riggs @ Oct 22nd 2007 8:49AM
modded XboX ftw!

While I love my XBMC, devices like this have one advantage: Joe Average Consumer can buy one off the shelf.

Does the remote have fast forward for porn?

id glady pay $150 added to any 500GB,750GB,1TB seagate external hard drive
but for 8 I dont think so
it would be nice to be able to plug any external hard drive into any tv
why can't they do this? If they can make the above device so small, why cant they just intergrate into external hardrives
well i guess theres always next year
JohnTitor @ Oct 22nd 2007 1:28PM
try a MediaGate MG35
tn @ Oct 22nd 2007 3:28PM
those type of products are 300+ add your own hard drive another 200-300
so 500-600 bucks
not worth it
but 150 on top of the price of an external hard drive is
at least to me
and this product shows it can be made for less than 150 now they just have to integrate it into external hard drives not this 8gb crap

Samantha is exactly right. TakeTV is more expensive and lower quality than a DivX certified DVD player with a USB port. Look at the Philips DVP5982 (Circuit City $59). Add a 500 Gig USB drive like the Beyond Micro BM500MD3U28M (eCost $94). Same price as the 8 GB TakeTV but you get HDMI, 60x more storage, and a DVD player to boot! Also much cheaper than XBox or MediaGate.

Apparently the only trouble is that the Philips DVP5982 only plays pictures and music and the Beyond Micro BM500MD3U28M drive is much larger and not flash. Eight GB of flash for ~$140 plus an integrated Divx player, remote, etc., isn't too bad.
