We haven't heard much from
Vongo since the company announced it was a
Vista launch partner in January, but Starz's scrappy video-on-demand division just unveiled the 2.0 version of the service today -- although it's a little unclear what's been changed apart from a supported portable device list that now numbers an absolutely astonishing seven. The chosen few PMPs include devices from Archos (which we sort of
figured), Creative, and Toshiba, with additional support for any number of Media Center Extenders. Of course, users of the $10 / month service can only use it on three devices at a time including PCs, so you'll probably run out of activations before you try to add another PMP or Media Center Extender, but it's a nice thought, at least.

Dont buy this. Vongo is such an awful company with such a little database of movies. Only crappy movies are sold there. Customer service is awful, and they dont refund your money, even only if it has been 10 minutes after they charged your card.

Vongo is cool fool ;P

Netflix just started giving on demand movies away with their service. It's pretty nice, but I could see wanting to use it if I had a supported PMP.
Maybe I'm just out of the loop, but don't believe people are actually using Media Center Extender. I'm a pretty techie person and it seems way too complex for what you get out of it.

I would say it's the cost, not the tech complexity, that will keep people away from media extenders. Get them down to $200 and you'll have a different story.

Does it work on iPod? No? Call me when it does.

Uh, last time I checked the 360 is a Media Center Extender, and there's a couple million of those pre-installed. Does this work with the 360? Or do you have to be running a MCE PC to use it like before?

Well, Vongo doesn't quite agree with this announcement. I wrote to their customer service and this is what they replied this morning:

Dear Rick,
Unfortunately, we do not support Archos 605. The only portable media device that we support as of the moment is the Toshiba Gigabeat's MES30VW, MES60VK, MEV series. We are still working on supporting other devices and hopefully your Archos 605 is one of them. We will keep you posted. Just check our weekly newsletter for any recent updates.
If you require any further information, please feel free to contact our Support Team at 1-877-866-4621 during 8am to 12amEST, 7 days week.
Thank you for your interest with Vongo.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey

I use vongo with my xbox360. with my wireless connection, I can watch movies on my tv that i download on my computer. It's great. Microsoft finally got something right (Xbox 360 that is)
VongoGirl @ Dec 18th 2007 2:08PM
The posting from Jeffery at Vongo support is incorrect, Archos 605 is supported. Also, Vongo added support for the Samsung P2 in mid-December. The P2 is an incredible device with a great touchscreen interface.

Vongo is a pay per view haven...why pay for the service and then pay for movies again(cause all the best ones are on pay per view...even best older movies)...go with Netflix you get more for your dollar.
