iPhone v1.1.2 breaks jailbreak -- coming to the UK on Friday
When we first got our hands on the UK iPhone back in September, it was already running the 1.1.1 firmware. The same firmware which helpfully bricked a number of hacked iPhones Stateside upon later release. Now T3 is claiming that the UK iPhone -- set for release on November 9th -- is kicking 1.1.2 under the glass. Besides support for French and German keyboard layouts and characters, the other notable change is the shuttering of the TIFF exploit used to jailbreak and then install (and unlock) third party applications on the 1.1.1 iPhone and iPod touch. With the possibility that Apple might release 1.1.2 globally with the UK launch on Friday, consider yourselves warned. It's not like there's a lot of incentive for you to update anyway (remember, it's optional) what with the latest jailbreak simultaneously exploiting and then plugging the TIFF exploit to keep your browsing safe. For whatever it's worth, the February SDK isn't too far away -- perhaps you should wait 'till then to get right with The Steve.

Hmm, is it likely the update will brick your iPhone or just disable the mods?
Seeing as it fixes the TIFF exploit
Here's a question for you. In Germany the iPhone will be on T-Mobile. Apart from the phone being in German, would it work on T-Mobile in the UK?
The way I see Apple has all right to put whatever features they want in the update. Why in the world would Apple, the company that making millions of dollars of iPhones under an AT&T or other carrier contract, want you to have the freedom of unlocking when the other profits that Apple gets from unlocked iPhones only make $400 per unit.
Sure its awful that newly purchased iPhones might have that firmware preinstalled, but if you really want an unlocked or jailbroken iPhone just buy it off Ebay or try to find a refurbished one. Just remember to avoid scams. Also DONT UPDATE!!
I don't expect it to run photoshop or be able to edit a feature film on the device but I sure as heck bought with the intention of getting rid of my present pda and not having to carry half dozen electronic gizmos around. I'm sort of running outta pockets! I feel it's a good alternative to a crackberry so ya we're expecting it to be more than just a phone!... it in combination with my notebook becomes just two devices.
I come from 25 year of screwing with pc's Vista was the final frontier for me... never has so much been owed to so few.... rather never has so little been owed to so many!... never was able to get everything syncing in the pc world without devoting half a day doing it..
now it's two things and they work well together...
we're way beyond just a phone here...
