If you hadn't heard, iTunes 7.5 hit today, and while we were all busy yawning at the seemingly insignificant update, MacRumors Forums user "FreeState" was checking out some localized strings and tracked down a few gems. Number 4320.069 asks if you're "sure you want to manually manage your music on your iPhone?" Yeah, we're sure. While 4320.073 teases that "Enabling the iPhone for disk use requires manually ejecting the iPhone before each disconnect, even when automatically syncing music." We can live with those demands. Mr. 4320.075 is a bit more generic, but 4320.082 is the sexiest of the bunch: "The iPhone "^1" contains new voice memos. Would you like to move these voice memos to your iTunes library?" We've been waiting for months for the iPhone to add that no-brainer feature, so here's hoping that the next iPhone update will be swift and promise-fulfilling.

Sorry for the ignorance, but what is a voice memo exactly?
Brian @ Nov 5th 2007 11:40PM
I would assume that means you can say something in your iPhone and it'll record it. Something like a voice recorder. Probably not as advanced but same idea.
Johan S @ Nov 6th 2007 2:09AM
Actually i am hoping its something that lets me record and send a voicemail to someone without having to actually sit through rings of the person's phone. Sort of like sending a text message .. I guess it's called instant voicemail or something.
neen @ Nov 8th 2007 9:25PM
@Johan:
You can already do that by dialing in to your own voicemail and choosing to send a message.
paul34 @ Nov 5th 2007 11:40PM
How about another no-brainer: syncing tasks and notes with Outlook or your other PIM program!!

photoshopped
Carbonize @ Nov 5th 2007 11:51PM
Photoshopped? What's photoshopped? There's no images involved let alone faked ones.
And why do we always say 'Photoshopped'? Why not Paintshopped or PdNed or even better why not say Gimped?

Is it normal for the Apple Mobile Device to be 1.1.2.23 even though my iPhone is 1.1.1?
wslcrew @ Nov 5th 2007 11:55PM
Well I just installed it on my mac. While it does offer manual song management option, I still can't switch on the disk mode for my iPod touch (at least in mac).
SteveJ @ Nov 6th 2007 7:41AM
The 1.1.1 software already allowed for manual song management on the iPod touch. I saw that option when I first set up mine.
caramelzappa @ Nov 6th 2007 12:00AM
A removable disc! Recorded voice memos! These are amazing! I can't wait! What will Apple think of next?
DarkLord7854 @ Nov 6th 2007 12:15AM
group text messaging, text message forwarding, being able to view all text message times when receiving sending instead of grouping them, flash player for Safari, internet radio,.. Would be a nice start
Garst @ Nov 6th 2007 2:07AM
A power button. You know how many people can't figure out how to turn off an iPod after they buy one? No one ever thinks that if they hold down the play button they will turn off the thing. And yes, I do realized the Zune is the same way, but everyone should make it obvious what botton you press to turn the thing off.
macona @ Nov 6th 2007 3:19PM
The disc is not removable. It means you can use the iPhone as a USB hard drive like you can with the iPods.
Bryan T @ Nov 6th 2007 12:08AM
Oh God let it be true...it is a pain to have to have all my music on one computer...I have CD's at my dad's house, other mp3's at my moms house, and random this and that on my macbook, and it is a real pain to compromise...I cannot wait for manually managed music, its part of what makes ipods so great.
dagamer34 @ Nov 6th 2007 12:12AM
Use iPhone as voice recorder!
Sync notes with Leopard Mail!
So obvious!
Big Ed @ Nov 6th 2007 12:13AM
Here's how it would go down:
"Note to self: get new job to afford iphone payments."
siddhinfo @ Nov 6th 2007 12:26AM
Good feature for managing the music manually, real brainer

These hidden strings have been around since iTunes 7.3

Have they adopted that bleeding edge technology known as Voice Activated Dialing yet?
Richiepoo @ Nov 6th 2007 4:24AM
Well, what about the hint that they will soon be releasing a 64-bit build? Check this out: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2071/1885870688_90478f8c0f_o.jpg

How many times does the Mac/iPhone/Tech media need to be reminded that these strings are just copied/pasted in large chunks from those belonging to other devices?!
Just like the strings regarding synchronizing games to Apple TVs, these ones about manally managing music and Voice Memos come straight from the iPod blocks.
Just compare these 4320 block strings to the 4300 block strings for iPods. Identical.
Can we stop spreading these rumors? Please?
Alien Grey @ Nov 6th 2007 9:05AM
Damn multimedia messages are a pain in the ass on this phone. I hate having to go to viewmymessage.com and put in a msg ID and a password. If they would simply support a link to the condemned pictures in SMS, maybe I wouldn't be whining like a little school girl/boy.
If anyone knows of a faster way, PLEASE tell me. Thanks!
Jeff @ Nov 6th 2007 2:11PM
Check out the iTunes help files people - it has a section on manually managing music on the iPhone so it's not just a copied localization string, infact there is a screen shot of it here http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=4448839&postcount=156.
