Fujitsu's newest LifeBook, the 14-inch S7211
Fujitsu's been pretty quietly pumping out some relatively sweet laptops recently, and the company's latest effort, the LifeBook S7211, is no exception. The 14-inch machine features a 1.5GHz T5250 Core 2 Duo processor, integrated X3100 graphics, 1GB of RAM and 120GB of storage, WiFi, Bluetooth, integrated webcam, a spill-resistant keyboard, and a 4-hour battery life. What's more, the dual-layer burner sits in a modular expansion bay, which allows it to be removed and replaced with either an additional battery or an empty shell to cut weight. Pricing starts at $899 and ranges up to around $1100 depending on options, and Fujitsu says they're available now.

B O R I N G...
Thinkpads already have had that modular system for years! (Along with many others...)
Who the hell would want a white keyboard? After 3 years of use, you can see all that nasty crap you had on your fingers...
Obviously I am biased for Thinkpads....

Not everyone is a nasty slob.
I think it looks awesome.

I don't understand why laptops don't have the weight as the first listed item - I set up systems for people as a living and that is the most important thing to just about 98% of them. If it isn't listed it is over 4lbs but it still would be nice. I remember this same thing when cell phones didn't list what version BT they were using - if it isn't listed, it is an old version.

The weight is 5.2lbs with optical drive.

Thanks jjd - I figured it was over 4lbs but didn't know the weight. I understand that some people don't mind carrying heavier laptops but so far none of my clients has opted for a laptop that weighs more than 4lbs. I guess it depends on if you get a laptop for travel or for some other purpose.

my compaq armada pentium 3 had the battery/drive modular feature. that was a long time ago and it was a floppy drive that you could swap out. but im just making it clear this is not a new idea.
