Lenovo's new Thinkstations look pretty sharp

A look back on popular stories from today in a specific year.

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Anyone who says that Apple was the first company to use perforated metal in a product is a complete douchebag.
The Darth Vader PC.
I am not sure why so many people on this site can't avoid being insulting or resort to snide sarcasm. Are they unable to merely state opinions without degrading someone else?
Paint it Beige and it looks like something you bought 10 years ago. Like the hardware inside, but damn they are ugly...all of them. Even the laptops. They almost look better if you just left them in the box and cut out holes for your cables.
Does it play doom?
Looks almost exactly like any other IBM case, accept now with a full grill in the front. IBM always wins for the most boring case design.
Apple Rocks........
The Power Mac G5 released in 2003. It looks way better than this. I'm not saying Apple was first (true or not) as it doesn't matter: Apple's design is similar in concept but way better in execution. If Apple was first with this essential design then IBM is ripping them off, and badly at that. If IBM was first with this essential design then why the hell haven't they learned from Apple's obviously superior version of their idea?
Why is everybody so defensive about this? It's not exactly earthshaking to point out that Apple's Chassis design is better executed than IBMs. It's just funny to make something so similar to Apple when youre execution is nowhere near as good: it's just begging for these sorts of comparisons. Like those janky emachines that ripped-off the original imacs.
Because not everyone needs a their computer to be a gigantic aluminum chunk below their desk that screams: "Look at me! I was Designed By Apple in California®"
When Johnathan Ive dies, I am sure he will make a special point to roll over in his grave because Engadgito said this thing looks good.
Triumph called and said "It looks pretty sharp... for me to poop on!"
Dude, it looks like a solid IBM workstation, which is exactly what the people using them want. Old-school IBM reliability is a big selling point, which is why Lenovo have continued the visual theme in their business lines.
Of course, you'd know this if you actually knew anything about the business, right?
Make all the Apple comparisons you, want, honestly. It's not like any of you idiots are going to be using either brand anyway. You just enjoy trolling Engadget from your base-spec Macbook and pretending you're playing with the big kids.
Cheers.
wow you're quite the condescending asshole, aren't you? When did I say anything about "the business" as you call it? I only commented on Engadget saying the case design looks "sharp", and then stated in a humorous way that John Ive would disagree. I think that's a fair assessment.
The fact that you're trolling and getting so personally offended by people's opinions suggests that you should get back to looking at your internet pr0n, but it guess it's hard to do that when your mom is upstairs watching Wheel of Fortune and knitting. Seriously, isn't it about time you moved out of the basement? It seems like such a waste for someone like you who is making all of that money in "the business" to spend it on comic books and WoW subscriptions.
Actually, the response was aimed at someone else. Usually I'd blame engadget's commenting system, but it was probably my fault.
And I felt your retort was particularly well put, if slightly overdone by the end ;)
The handle isn't for carrying. It is for throwing it as far as possible when you need stress relief.
The Aptiva called, it wants its design back.
Where's the floppy drive?? ;-)
1. I miss the red-green-blue IBM logo
2. It would look even better if the roms are inside the grill
lenovo needs a new LOGO~
So, now we're moving away from 2 monitors with 1 PC to 2 PCs and 1 monitor?
Guess I'll ebay the second one. :(
Instead, you should get a KVM switch from eBay.
Very rugged looking. A man's computer. Does it come in earthy colors for the metrosexual male?
Wow. You people constantly surprise me with your aesthetic values. You tend to call things ugly when they look all right, and then you call this "slick"! When the headline read "sharp", I thought it was going to be a joke on behalf of the many sharp edges of the setup, not that it looked stylish.
That off-centre look makes it look all wrong to me, for one thing. It's not UGLY, but if anything, it's no better-looking than the old IBMs. Like, the really old.
Looks like my old IBM PS/1000. (Think 1994.)
Vintage 1992 design ... shouldn't these things be about 1/3 the size now.
I wonder if they come with a Model M Keyboard...
That looks like an ugly chintzy version of a Mac Pro. Plus, the handles on a Mac Pro are way stronger, and there's two handles so you don't have to carry it at a painfull 45 degree angle like this one.
Actually, check out this link. Looks like Apple's tower was the one borrowing the handle design from IBM.
