Despite what you've been
hearing about this fancy, extra "lite" DS Lite coming to town, Nintendo would like to tell you otherwise... sort of. In a response to analyst's claims that a new system -- thinner, with larger screens and on-board storage -- was headed out in the near future, the company said that the news was, "Rumour and speculation and we are not commenting further." Tough talk, right? Well, while that sounds all doom-and-gloom -- it's not quite a denial. If anything, one might conjecture that Nintendo doesn't want all you holiday shoppers holding off on wallet-bashing purchases in the hope that something newer and / or better is just around the corner. Of course, we could just be
speculating.

hehe well just the hint of this rumor has me holding off buying the existing DS. Just haveta hope they confirm it post-christmas rush or something.
Totalfixation @ Nov 16th 2007 2:24PM
Why would you hold off? the resale value of it is good. so what if you lose 20-30 bucks. At least you get something to play with for the time being. Should something be announced officially you can sell the one you have and wait for the new unit to arrive. And if the rumors aren't true you just wasted your time waiting for nothing.

I am waiting on getting a new PSP Slim for this exact reason. I can see tons of kids returning them post-holiday season when they realize that there isin't that many good games out there.
Good thing I don't use it to play PSP Games.
Eddie @ Nov 16th 2007 3:04PM
Well, I have a GBA SP which is good enough for now. Honestly its really just that I figure I'd get one eventually but don't have an overwhelming need for it now. So I might as well wait and see how the rumor pans out.
oGMo @ Nov 16th 2007 2:26PM
Didn't they "deny" the SP and the DS Lite as well?
Denials aren't denials unless they *actually say* the word "deny", and it's not preceded by the word "don't". Much like "no comment" is not an affirmation.
StrangeBum @ Nov 16th 2007 2:27PM
'Of course, we could just be speculating.'
More like "Of course, we could just be thinking about the old adage 'History is doomed to repeat itself' which makes us think back not too much earlier when Nintendo denied rumors of the first re-design ala the DS lite and then announced it literally the next day!"
That sounds better.
BubbaGumb @ Nov 16th 2007 2:51PM
its Nintendo,
they always improve the hand helds in 3's
OG GameBoy--->GameBoy Pocket--->Gameboy Color
GameBoy Advance--->GameBoy Advance SP--->Gameboy Advance Micro
Nintendo DS MEGA--->Nintendo DS Lite--->Nintendo DS ???
its inevitable,
they will produce another DS just to be cool like that
Borgen borgen @ Nov 16th 2007 3:05PM
The original DS is the best one anyway. Just like the Gameboy Advanced before it. If you are an adult that is. The damn things getting smaller is great if you are sticking it in your back pocket but not for playing.
Smaller isn't always better. Just ask your girlfriend. Oh wait this is a nerd forum...go ask someone else's girlfriend.
AlexP @ Nov 16th 2007 4:02PM
I'm a virgin because I like technology, is that what you're trying to imply?
lol, douche.
jordan @ Nov 16th 2007 3:22PM
Didn't Nintendo just make a statement regarding the Wii along the lines of, "hey, we've revolutionized the hardware and delivered a totally unique gaming experience that, as of right now, we feel does not need to change anytime in the near future"? Neither console shows signs of weakening sales.
Sure, the DS Lite is a little older than the Wii, but why can't this statement still apply?

Hey, I work for Circuit City (don't flame me!), but I thought you might be interested in a sale (you can’t get in the stores) coming up this Sunday. I thought I would give a heads up early because stock will be limited. Skip the Friday madness and go to the website this Sunday through Wednesday.
There are going to be daily special deals only on the web starting Sunday. The deals just last through Wednesday, and I know their stock will be limited so check it out at www.circuitcity.com/countdown starting this Sunday.
DannyMac @ Nov 16th 2007 3:47PM
If they do come out with a new version, I wonder if they'll drop the price...$99 seems like a good price. ^_^
AlexP @ Nov 16th 2007 4:01PM
My finances aren't exactly great right now, but if it's an aluminum+glass combo I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I loved how durable my Gameboy Pocket was (despite the fact that the screen wasn't covered by glass (AFAIK), but whatever).
Ihar `Philips` Filipau @ Nov 16th 2007 4:28PM
I guess next DS redesign would be the same as PSP redesign: nothing really heartbreaking, plain redesign.
So it makes no point for Nintendo to (re)spin it.
P.S. On how N can miniaturize consoles, just take a look GB Micro. That thing (if iPod Nano is takes as reference of nano) is really micro.
shanoboy @ Nov 16th 2007 4:38PM
I have a DS Phat and have been wanting a Lite for a while now, but these rumors have definately made me decide to hold off and wait for the next gen DS!
DiGiC @ Nov 16th 2007 8:30PM
Same as, Want a lite so bad after seeing how much better the screen is but if theres a hint of a newer redesign it wont hurt to wait a few months (the worst that could happen is the redesign could be crap, lite's would still come down in price)
Thats if there is, but look at when the SP was announced / released, wasn't it Jan 2003 & out by Feb/ March?
D. @ Nov 16th 2007 9:58PM
Well that's it for getting a DS on Christmas. I'm waiting. I get this enough with new iPods and Apple. No way is Nintendo going to do it to me as well.
Artr @ Nov 17th 2007 6:47AM
hehe i remember them denying the Lite..
and then the next day...BAM!
new DS lite....
grrrr... and i just got given a new DS as a present.
