Alienware gets official with Area-51 m15x, m17x laptops
While they don't exactly come as much of a surprise after a couple of leaks and that little website slip-up, Alienware has finally gotten official with is new Area-51 m15x and m17x laptops, which each pack more power than you'll likely need in your choice of two eye-catching designs. The m15x, as you can no doubt surmise, is a 15.4-inch model, which gives you enough room for dual hard drives, along with your choice of Core 2 Duo Extreme processors, NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX graphics, 667MHz DDR2 memory, and plenty of other high-end specs to match. The m17x appears to be identical in most respects, but its 17-inch display also affords just enough room for a third hard drive which, as we had heard earlier, can include SSD if you so choose. Still no word on a release date, but Alienware will gladly inform you of that little detail if you're willing to hand over your email address.

Do they sell external fusion reactors with these?
Will it run Gato?
(Oh yes I did!)
I'm hoping George Bush will send me another 100 extra barrels of Crude Oil to run this bad moFo..
Why Alienware why? I thought you would put these up for sale today! Now my wallet is full but my heart is empty :(
That is one sexy space heater.
Here are some real pictures and concrete info:

These aren't coming out until Q1 2008.
First ever kosher laptop?
zuh? did i miss that it's made of matzo?
I will never buy another Alienware product, especially their laptops. I paid top dollar for what I thought was an enthusiast system only to get substandard parts and broken promises. Never again.
I say we dust off and nuke it from orbit.
It's the only way to be sure.
Typing this from a 1 inch thin MBP I wonder, could they make it any thicker?
You are missing the whole point.
Ahh Alienware, squeezing desktop power into overpriced laptops since 1997.
The battery is just for decoration right?
Who designed this, ULTRAMAN?
they look wicked... unfortunately i wish they had a 14-inch model available for better mobility. why can't they stuff an NVidia 8400 in the m5550? I'd go for that one in a heart beat.
forgot to mention that the keyboard looks very much like the sony CR laptops and mac books (non-pro). I like that style a lot. illuminated keys are da-bomb on these, much better than on the macbook pro's.
If you're looking for high-powered graphics in a 14" model, you may want to consider Asus instead. They cram Geforce Go 7700 and 8600m GS into their 14" models. And I'd bet they cost a lot, LOT less.
Although that's no 8800m, to be sure. While these do look like crap, you can't deny that the concept of an 8800-series graphics chip set in ANYTHING that is "portable" is pretty enticing.
Thanks for the tip... I did think of getting an Asus but the Sony FZ-290 is looking mighty good with its price cuts.
Alienware badly needs a design refresh, they've been pushing this same basic a design forever now (skullcap design). It was cool back in the early 00's but now it's just stale.
How about something that actually looks cool. Maybe a nice thin black aluminum Macbook pro style notebook. Simple and sleek. Not all gawdy and ugly like it was designed by a Nickelback or Creed fan.
I really hope they don't go for a macbook design. Those things are too sterile and generic looking. Alienware's design may not be for everyone, but at least it stands out. I personally love the look of the new laptops.
Something tells me you're not a young gamer with a Dorito stained keyboard... or rather not the target market. :) Which makes me realize I've never seen one of these machines in person; do gamers even go outside to necessitate a portable?
I completely agree with you here Richard, I think the MB design is very cheap and generic looking. This is not the best looking laptop that I have seen in a while but at least it offers something.
As far as i recall, i don't see any alienware around here, may be final users will trend to play in house, lan-parties or any place without sunlight.
We come in peace. Now take me to your wallet.
Well, there must be a market for rigs like these - Alienware still exists - and it's all wonderful how powerful such a 'portable' thing is, but Bad Ass Gaming and Laptop just don't mix well together. Any real gamer wants at least a 22" screen and a large ergonomic keyboard. And though I love the Ripley design, people who are really in the market for this kind of portable power would probably prefer a sleeker design, but I guess we'll never know.
Bah. Stereo vision head set, quad core server with stream co-processor, two GPU's in SLI, dual wiimotes, two candles, a sensor-rigged treadmill, and a latency optimized Linux/BSD/solaris/Mach kernel.
/that/ is the way to go ;)
Lan parties my friend. Lan parties.
Wow it's 1 meter thick
O boy
I really do not know much about Alienware then again I'm not into PC gaming. But I wonder does anyone know how their laptops perform under real conditions such as video editing or song mixing? Or do any of you recommend another PC laptop for such applications...
HOPE THEY DO GET ONE IN "BLACK"
& Front loading CD Drive
Then Only im Buying :)
