Those pondering the purchase of an Inspiron
1520 / 1521 should probably hold off for a month or so if you can, as it looks like suitable successors will soon be available for both. The 6.6-pound 1525 and 1526 machines are the 15.4-inch replacements for the aforementioned pair and should target small businesses / low(er)-end consumers. Initial specs sheets reveal that the 1525 will be based on the Santa Rosa architecture, while the 1526 gets AMD-powered and offers up an ATI Radeon X1270 graphics set. Furthermore, the pair will feature up to 4GB of RAM, WXGA / WXGA+ / WSXGA+ panel choices, SATA hard drives, an optional Blu-ray reader (1525 only), built-in WiFi, optional WWAN and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. You'll also find four USB 2.0 ports, a 4-pin FireWire connector, Ethernet / 56k modem, VGA out, optional HDMI, audio in / out, a 8-in-1 multicard reader, ExpressCard slot and your choice of Vista or Ubuntu Linux. Not much looks to have changed in the design department, and apparently, you'll still be able to order 'em with a custom lid color. Also, there's no definitive word on price just yet, but you can safely expect 'em to land in the same neighborhood as the units they are replacing when the duo ships to nearly every corner of the globe in mid-December.
Not much different from my 1520... but i'm still pissed.
if you bought your laptop within the last month.. then here is a tip for you... Call dell and tell them you want to return it, they'll offer you up to 100 dollars gift card just to keep it... Great customer service... I bought a canon digital camera with my 100 Dell gift card...
Oh please, technology is constantly progressing. Stop whining.
This is one heck of a machine that is for sure! Imagine a couple of years from now how laptops will be. Too bad we spend so much in the meantime.

Wow, I love that you took time out of your busy day to post the link to a piece of trash website on my favorite tech blog. It's so nice to see someone so satisfied with an information medium that they try to use it for free advertising.
On a lighter note, you suck ass and your site is horrible. Go take your website and have a long walk off of a short pier, cliff or otherwise elevated platform (just make sure its high enough to guarantee intense physical trauma, for our sake).
That or just stop spamming your craptastic garbage-pale of a website.
Go Dell!
Great design.. I love Dell.. Keep it up.. Ya
"...VGA out, optional HDMI..."
Too bad no DisplayPort http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort
Still nice though.
I should have figured there was an update imminent considering their massive ad campaign, but with the $500 off an inspiron notebook $1499+ coupon it was too hard to pass up.
Now this is a type of laptop that I would get which I am.
that is a sweet looking piece.
i love it how they're not even bothering to bundle windows anymore
"your choice of Vista or Ubuntu Linux"
Last time I checked, Vista is still windows. And Dell has been putting Ubuntu on some of their computers for quite a while now.
Hopefully this is actually a decent upgrade for their laptop line as at my work (its a college) we had stopped ordering Dell due to their shoddy build quality recently. If these are nice, I might have to order one up [sexy party time]

Hopefully you will cease breathing and the rest of us can read the comments in Engadget without your wonderful contributions.
Your blog is trash, your sport coat is awful and your complexion could use some work too, do you have psoriasis?
Seriously, think twice before posting a picture of yourself on a crappy rip-off blog that you spam to the comments of a site with perhaps the most tech savvy readership of any blog on the net.
P.S. You and your blog are ridiculous, and no one cares about either.
I recently spotted that the acclaimed '2407' prosumer flat panel had disappeared from Dell UK's website and they have yet to launch a panel with integrated HDMI, despite including the feature on an ever increasing number of their notebooks.
I think an HDMI toting '2408' is primed for release, and given the combined AV nature of the HDMI feed, I would hope that it will incorporate discrete stereo speakers over those tacky soundbar extensions that you can buy for current models. Otherwise putting HDMI on a new line of monitors is a bit of a waste of time and effort.
Here's to hoping. As the '2407' was actually starting to lag behind its peers in a number of areas.
*sigh*
I *JUST* got my 1520 the other day... I am pretty happy with it... although I don't see any real difference between this and my 1520 other than the available HDMI. Of course, there's no mention of what nvidia graphics options are going to be available. I could only go up to 256 with their current offerings... if they up it to 512 with this here, it might be worth returning it for the upgrade.
When are they going to bring back the WUXGA 15.4" screens? Or am I the only one who'd like to rock that sweet 1920x1600 resolution?
Will the 1525 retain the nvidia 8600m GT? Because I can only imagine that the x1270 is a big step down. Am I wrong?
The current inspiron 1521 has the x1270 already in it, you can't even upgrade to a Geforce 8400m, I suspect the 1526 won't be any different. The 1520 on the other hand has the integrated x3100 on the low end with the option to upgrade to a 8400gs or a 8600gt. It has yet to be seen what video card options the 1525 will have.
What about 1725, is it due to go on sale together with 1525 ?
I am happy with my 1520. It has component out (seperate adapter that also has surround out ). From what I understand the 1525 is more to fix the headphone issue and complaints about no hdmi port then anything else.
i'm planning to get a 1520 nxt week. as a college student is waiting for the 1525 worth it. (are the few upgrades that significant).
