T-Mobile USA making announcement about 3G on December 6?
If we ignore all the nonsensical parts of this Inquirer article, then we see that T-Mobile USA might be about to make an announcement regarding their US 3G offering. According to a rep, the company will be making an announcement on December 6th on the subject, which sounds to us like the Government might have finally shifted off of T-Mobile's turf. That's all the relevant details we have, so set your calendars if 3G networks news announcements are your kinda thang. [Thanks, Frank P.]

Well, considering the INQ says that T-mobile "bundles EDGE with voice plans at no additional charge" I'd bet that the rest of the article is also BS.
It wouldn't be the first time.
I wonder what frequencies they'll be using. There are no handsets that support the newly acquired 1700MHz spectrum.
oh god i think its point less since LTE(long term evolution) is almost around the corner, they should just milk it till LTE becomes finalized.
Yeah, LTE is around the corner, especially since Verizon will take almost 4 years to switch from CDMA to GSM then build to LTE. TMobile should just lose more customers that are lookin for faster mobile speeds, the only reason I am waiting for tmobile speed is cuz my plan is dirt cheap(employee plan). So I dont know what you mean by around the corner.
Just because Verizon is stating 4 years doesn't mean T-mobile has to wait 4 years, when I say around the corner it means the LTE consortium is almost finalizing the LTE standard. That should give T-mobile the go ahead to start building the LTE network.
Verizon is not planning to switch to GSM, AFAIK. All they are doing is using LTE (on top of W-CDMA/HSDPA) for 4G - so while their 4G technology is compatible with that of GSM/UMTS carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, Europe, Asia), their 2G/GSM and 3G/UMTS will not be.
Their network will be analogous to Japan, where they do not have GSM, but do have UMTS over W-CDMA, so international (2100MHz) 3G handsets will work in Japan, while plain old GSM-only handsets will not.
I'm starting to think the new T-mobile US spokesperson should be Mr. Rogers(rip) because all of this 3G talk seems to be coming from The Land of Make Believe. Red button up sweaters for all...
I think the next T-Mobile US spokes person should be Mr. Rogers because all this 3g talk from them has been straight from the land of make believe....Red button up sweaters for all promo from tmo on Dec. 6th
oops commenting system must be slow...
finally T-Mobile!
EDGE is too slow, I want faster data speeds.
Is there any chance at all that T-mobile will announce 3g and nokia's nseries phones for their network (n82/n95). It seems to me that T-mobile just released a 3g phone, but they will need more for users to take advantage of the service and the n82 would be perfect.
It may be late, but I'll take the 7.2 Mbps downstream (or so Wikipedia says...).
If and when T-Mo "turns on the switch", is this gonna be an all tower thing, or just major metro areas thing? There are two brand new (one just finished and one under construction) T-mobile towers right near my house in a relatively rural area - can I expect a 3G connection from them?
My Tmo account exec told me about a month ago that when they 'flip the switch' it will be 3G on all their towers, not just major metro areas. Lord knows they have had enough time to get things ready while the gov takes their time getting the f%@# off my new 3G network.
But then he may have been telling me what I want to hear.
well, theirs been rumors that their will be a 3G Sidekick coming out so hopefully tmobile getting 3G in dec isint a rumor.. and im sure tmobile will eventuly have 3G so why not get it on Dec.. its beliveable.
Just in time to usher in the new year!
Happy 2006 everyone!!
Oh how I hope they choose 2100 MHZ frequency band for use on my JasJar

That's my birthday! :D
I can only dream I could use my european version
nokia N95 on 3G. I have an account on suspense with t-mo, I would go back in a heartbeat.
Hrm. Dec. 6th is here. And getting close to over. No news from T-Mo?
Well, it would appear that the rollout is due in March 08 as per the following:
http://www.3gamericas.org/pdfs/Global_3G_Status_Update.pdf
Who knows how that date is determined for fixed but i suppose 3gamericas would know.
Wow I'm surprised that T-Mobile hasn't tried to sue the US government to speed up the process of moving off the allotted network space that T-Mobile purchased. All the towers are ready to go and they have slew of very interesting handsets and smartphones with 3G capability just sitting around ready to be used............
This wait is so infuriating.
